AU :When two become three {Cole}

[Ava Anderton]

Ava now 24 smiled walking into the airport wearing one of the bands t-shirts and a simple pair of slightly ripped jeans her and Cole had been together for over 5 years now she couldnt understand where the time had gone like the time they had traveled around on the tour bus with the band it was a fantastic 6 months almost every moment had been a happy one like most couples they had there ups and downs her and Cole had taken over the club where they first met Ava had started to work there climbing up the postions till she and Cole where joint managers

Glancing around the airport she looked making sure that she was in the right place to meet Cole she blushed thinking about seeing him once again '' Plane ..'' came a small voice from there daughter little Layla who seemed to the best parts of both of them with her mothers hair and her fathers eyes and nose she too wore a small t-shirt with the name of Coles band on it '' Well hello sleepy girl .. and yes there is lots of planes '' she smiled kissing her daughters fluffy hair gently '' We need too keep our eyes peeled for daddy.. and what do we say to daddy when we see him ?'' Ava asked looking at Layla who squealed '' Dada rocks !'' Layla said sweetly waving her hands in the air making both laugh '' Thats my girl'' Ava said happily resting Layla on her hip getting comfy as she looked at the flights board Coles flight had landed so that means that he was just getting through baggage and customs so wouldnt be too long.

Normally Ava would travel with Cole taking Layla with them when he was going on tour yet this time they couldnt find cover for the club so Ava stayed behind and since it was only a week long tour she didnt mind too much yet she had missed him so much and so had Layla '' Dada'' Layla said looking around before sucking her thumb Layla had arrived just over 14 months ago Ava loved being a mom even tho things where hard at times she wouldnt change her life for the world.

Looking up she looked through the crowd of people juggling Layla on her hip '' Keep your eyes open can you see him ?'' Ava asked looking at Layla who was scanning the airport before squealing and wriggling from her mothers arms on the floor she started to toddle off '' dada rocks ... dada rocks !!'' Layla kept saying excitedly.

Cole stretched as he woke up, the plane only just hitting the ground. "Finally back home...." He whispered to himself. The rest of his band mates had taken their tour bus, but Cole wanted to be home quickly. Their band, Forgotten Silhouette, had finally hit it big four years ago on Cole and Ava's first anniversary. Two years after that, the former Hammel student finally had worked up the courage to propose.

Cole's mind flashed back to that evening. The horizon was just about to cradle the sun when Cole picked her up. He'd taken her up the mountain pass and pulled off onto the side of the road. He took her hand and led her up a lengthy trail to the cliff-like bluffs that overlooked all of Pilot Ridge. The sunset provided the most cliched backdrop ever, but Cole didn't care. With a hopeful heart, Cole dropped to his knee as she looked out over the view. He presented the ring only barely before she turned around. Cue the start of the rest of their lives.

And now, here they were. Going five-years strong, and Cole wouldn't change a thing. They'd had plenty of ups and downs through just five years, to be sure. Johnny, the owner of Cole's workplace, fell ill with liver cancer the year Cole's band signed with a label. At first no one thought it would be that bad, but when he asked Cole to take him to the Emergency Room, the worst was realized. Cole left the hospital alone four days later.

Johnny had no kids, no family left to take over the club and so he gave it to Cole. Cole thought back to the hospital room. Johnny's Revelation that he was going to pass on. He'd told Cole all the stories he could, and so all there was left was silence. As Johnny drew in his last few breaths, he spoke, "Cole....., the club is yours. Take care of it. And take care of Ava. Love like that is all that's worth living for." It took all Cole had to keep from crying; replying only with a nod. "Nice work you did, Cole. You're gonna go far, kid." Those words, the last he could muster, were burned into Cole's brain.

He flashed back into reality as the stewardesses began to instruct passengers to leave the plane. Cole stood from his seat and grabbed his backpack from overhead. His instruments and all were on the bus and it would be a few days before it got back to Pilot Ridge. He stood, yawned and made his way to the exit terminal.

He no more left the tunnel of the packed air terminal than he began to search for his family. With a deep breath, Cole began walking; hoping he would soon lay eyes on his wife and child. He wasn't but a few steps when he saw Layla in her cute T-shirt. He knelt down and held open his arms, "Layla! C'mere princess!" He hollered, his tone borderline to a scream. She ran as best she could right into his arms. Cole folded his limbs around her small frame and planted a large kiss on her cheek, "Daddy missed you, honey." He said with a wide smile.

Layla only said two words, "Dada Rocks!" But that was more than enough for her father.

"Where's your mother, Layla?" Cole said as he looked over the crowd. Finally, Cole caught sight of her dark-hair-framed face and quickly walked to her. One of his arms stayed around their daughter while the other reached to Ava. His hand cupped her cheek before pulling her to him and planting his lips gently on hers; his arm wrapping around her as well, "Hello, baby." Cole said as he pulled back with a smile.

Ava glanced down at her engagment ring quickly she couldnt help but smile remembering the time he proposed and the plans they made to get married back in florida on the beach Ava wanted to be close to her mother once again but soon after annoucing there engagement she told Cole they where going to have a baby.
The memory of how she told Cole wasnt the most normal she had taken the test at the club then borrowed the mic from the band that was playing that night and annouced to the whole club yet her eyes where fixed on Coles who was at the bar she was pretty sure that he had broken the glass he was holding but all that did was make her smile and from the first moment that Layla had entered the world she knew that Layla would have her father wrapped around her tiny finger like the way it should be with all little girls
Zoning back into the real world she watched Layla managing to run over to Cole she had never seen her daughter move so fast she smiled brightly letting them have a moment togetherbefore she too rushed over to Cole kissing him gently her fingers cupping his cheek while her eyes scanned him as if to make sure that he was ok she then sighed a sigh of relief and hugged him tightly her hands taking hold of his shirt as she nuzzled into his neck '' Welcome home handsome '' she whispered happy to stay cuddling him for a few minutes before stepping back and slipping his bag off of his shoulder '' Let me take that Mr Rockstar '' she grinned while Layla happily stayed in his arms sucking on her thumb before pointing around '' Plane ... plane OOo more plane.. dada plane !'' she squealed loving the airport which just made Ava laugh.

'' Ok so why dont we go get something to drink then we can head home all 3 of us .. and you can tell us all about your trip '' Ava smiled as she took Coles hand linking there fingers together she knew she also had a special evening planned for them once Layla had gone to sleep and she couldnt wait.

Cole shrugged off his back pack as Ava took hold of it. He cradled little Layla in his arms before laughing, "Yeah, sweetie, there's lots of planes, huh?" He told the beautiful little girl who just continued to clap her hands. He wrapped his arm around Ava's shoulders, "Yeah.... Home does sound nice."

Cole followed her over the the small refreshment kiosk and got them all something to drink. He turned around and handed Ava the drinks before speaking again, "Please tell me you brought the 'Breather?" Cole asked, referring to his car. It may have gotten some miles on it over the years, but it was one car Cole would never go of. It had been a gift from his parents years ago.

Ava smiled slipping on his back pack letting out a small groan '' Oh what is in this old thing of yours '' she giggled watching Layla and getting a soda from the stand with him while Layla happily sipped at her juice bottle before she wriggled down wanting to look around she tugged at her fathers trouser leg before walking slightly over to Ava '' Moma we go plane ? '' she asked sweetly before sucking on her thumb.

Ava smiled stroking her daughters hair gently '' No baby girl we get to take daddy home in the car '' she smiled '' And of course we brought your rust bucket for you '' Ava smiled fishing the keys out of her back pocket using her nickname for the car '' Now go and take daddys hand little lady and lets go home '' she said with a smile biting her lip at her cute little family as Layla walked over to Cole letting out a faint giggle Ava walked towards the doors wanting to take her little family away '' And l will cook your favourite meal tonight .. l also got one of your favourite movies '' she smiled looking over her shoulder at Cole sticking out her tongue slightly listening to Layla babble away happily.

Getting into the car Ava drove them home treating Cole to proper 5star treatment LAyla had fallen asleep in the back sucking on ther thumb and hugging her treasured toy zebra pulling up infront of there home Ava unbuckled her seatbelt leaning over she kissed the corner of Coles mouth '' mm Hi you '' she whispered looking at him her cheeks flushed slightly before she climbed out of the car and went to get Layla out still letting her sleep '' lm going to go and put her in bed .. then l want to hear everything .. unless you want to hold her ?'' Ava asked with a smile knowing how much he missed his daughter '' And l will even let you do bathtime too '' Ava smirked sticking her tongue out to him she was glad he was back she wanted nothing more than to have a cuddle with him like always and just be held for a few moments

Cole smiled, "Hey now..... Rust bucket's still too harsh.... That's my baby, baby." Cole said. That car had been his for far too long to get another one. Plus, Cole's mechanical skills kept that machine's blood flowing everyday. It was one thing that Cole had taken care of better than his own body.

As Layla took his hand, Cole smiled even wider following his wife out to the car. "Layla, daddy loves you." He told the little monster at his side before putting her in her carseat. Cole rode quietly for most of the trip home. Before he could really get into detail about the tour in his home state, Ava was pulling into their driveway. She leaned over and kissed the corner of his mouth and Cole almost deepened it into a passionate kiss, but she pulled away before he could.

He slid out of the car as she carried Layla into the house. He inhaled the air of Vermont deeply before finally heading inside after his family. As Ava spoke to him, Cole looked at her, "Nah, just put her in bed for right now. I'm going to run and shower myself.... Get the scent of band tour off of me before I do anything else." It wasn't that Cole didn't like the scent, but the fact was he hadn't really had a decent shower since the night before they left.

Cole went into the bathroom and almost immediately hopped into the shower. The water poured down on him and at this point, he had never felt better. After he had cleaned up, he stepped out of the shower and grabbed his razor. He hated scruffiness on his face. He didn't mind the goatee, but the unkempt beard didn't sit well with him.

After cleaning up his face and body, Cole pulled on some jeans and boots and headed back into the living room. Ava was already starting on dinner. Cole slid his belt on as he noticed her back turned to him as she slaved away for his favorite meal. He slowly crept up behind her before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her back to his exposed chest. His lips met her neck as he spoke, "Hello, beautiful." Cole said as he turned her around to face him.

Ava smiled she still wasnt an amazing cook and frequantly burnt her fingers but it was worth it and she was hungry too she hummed along to the song that where playing onto the radio Layla had slept and couldnt be heard snoring quietly on the baby moniter that was on the counter.

She had thought about joining Cole in the shower but she knew that they both would o been easily distracted besides she had a plan for the evening and she wanted to stick to it she smiled happily putting the timer on the food she started to clean away the mess that she had made letting out a gasp when she felt his strong arms around her she leant aainst him her hands touching his hands before she looked up and faced him '' Hello handsome'' she whispered blushing brightly up at him she felt butterflies with him still and she loved that feeling she had also applied a little of her cherry flavoured lip balm to she kissed him gently on the lips '' mm l missed you '' she uttered before she kissed at the nape of his neck '' l wish l had joined you in that shower now '' she mumbled with a faint playful growl in her voice

She then stopped and hugged him tightly nuzzling into him '' Nope thats it your not going on tour again l missed you too much the beds been so cold and lonley with out you '' she said knowing she said it everytime that he went away she then moved slightly so that she could feel his strong heart beat against her own body '' My man '' she whispered placing a gentle kiss over his heart before she looked up at him with a big smile '' Dinner is going to be ready soon ...l thouht you might like a massage help you unwind from your busy day ?'' she smirked she was happy he was back her family was complete once again.

She wasnt going to spoil the perfect evening with bad news not now it could wait till morning what was 24 hours in the scale of things for now she wanted her husband and her little girl nothing more.

Cole smiled into the kiss as she claimed his lips without any hesitation. It was clear they had both missed each other. He kept his arms around her for the duration of the kiss and even after it had ended. It had only been a week, but it had felt like a year, if not longer. Cole had missed her more than life itself; having her in his arms just made his life meaningful.

"I don't think I would have minded you joining me." Cole said with a sly smirk crossing his lips. Of all the things that he had to go out without while she stayed home and he was on tour, sex wasn't the most missed, but it was one thing he missed. All of his band mates were still single and so they got the majority of the female sexpots that liked to ambush them on tour. Cole wasn't that kind of man. He had a wife and child and that was his life. He was loyal to his woman, no matter the amount of temptation he dealt with daily.

When she told him dinner would be ready soon, Cole's mouth began to water at the smell of sizzling steak drenched in just the right amount of barbecue sauce. The he heard her mention a massage and Cole's mind went to the gutter. "A massage does sound amazing, but I say we wait until tonight after Layla is fast asleep for the night. That way, there are no distractions." He told her, a wink coming after he'd finished speaking.

It was then the baby monitor erupted to life as Layla awoke from her nap. Cole pecked his wife's lips, "I got this, baby." And with those words, Cole went to get his baby girl. As he entered the baby room, Layla was at the edge of her crib using the rails to stand up. Cole walked in, "Hey, princess, what's wrong?" He had no more walked through the door before Layla's arms had reached out for him. "Did you have a bad dream? C'mere, darlin'..." Cole tried to soothe her as he picked her up, "Shhh.... Mommy's making dinner. C'mon, we'll go in here with her." Cole said as he cradled Layla in his arms and walked back to the kitchen. Kissing his daughter's forehead gently before looking to Ava, Cole spoke, "Momma, I think she had a bad dream." He told her as he bounced Layla gently.

Ava smiled she felt so safe in his arms like nothing could harm her and if she was honest she couldnt wait to get her hands on his strong muscles She trusted him with her life and that of there daughter she knew she had nothing to worry about when he went away on tour she always made sure the first niht they where back together it was something that he wouldnt want to miss out on .

She loved how much Cole loved bein a father he was so good with Layla who was a happy child in herself most of the time knowing she had a few moments to herself Ava sighed and went to the drawer where all the junk letter where kept she took a deep breath and pulled out the letter from the hospital

'Dear Mrs Kessler
Following your recent vist to the hospital the scan andexamination have showed some red flags that we would like to discuss with you in person at a time that suits you but sonner would be prefered after all. Hope this finds you in good health '

Ava was so lost in her train of thought she didnt hear them come in the room all she could think about was that she understood why her mother had kept quiet for so long about her caner its not just something you drop into convosation cancer the big C what ever she named it she couldnt tell Cole now not when she had just got him back going to the hospital alone had been a nightmare but she just needed tonight she jumped hearing Layla crying shoving the letter back in the drawer she walked over and kissed her daughters red cheeks '' Someone is getting there teeth through arent you my little munchkin those pesky back teeth'' she smiled as she walked over to the freezer and pulled out an ice lolly for Layla '' Now why dont you go and sit with daddy , maybe this will help '' she grinned seeing her daughter smile reaching out for the lolly even offering it to Cole for a second before she pulled it back '' Mine ! '' she said cutely '' Oh yes thats about right '' Ava smiled sighing for a second as she watched them together

She couldnt bare to think she would miss out on there life together she shook her head once again and walked back into the kitchen clenching her hands which where trembling she then went to the fridge pulling out one of Coles beers and taking a large gulp something which she never normally did but she was feeling a little weak hearing the hissing from the steak she grabbed a plate for the meat and started to plate up dinner '' Food is ready '' she called out she was scared but for now she had to act like everything was normal.

Cole smiled as Layla continued to coo at him as he held her. He took her into the living room and sat down. He leaned back onto the couch while he waited for Ava to finish cooking. Rocking his baby girl back and forth almost put them both to sleep. It wasn't until Ava hollered that their dinner was ready that Cole snapped back into reality and looked over. "Awesome!" He said as he stood up.

Cole walked into the kitchen as she was preparing their plates and put Layla in her highchair. Cole kissed his daughter's forehead before strapping her in and sitting next to her. He was going to help Ava with setting the table but she had already arrived with the food. Cole sat with a smile as he took his plate and started eating. Taking in his first bite, a groan escaped his lips as he savored the flavor of his wife's cooking, "This I missed too....." He said as he swallowed and took another bite... It seemed like each bite was followed by a groan as he enjoyed each and every piece of steak that parted his lips.

After Cole had finished eating, he took to feeding Layla so Ava could eat without being interrupted, "I got this, baby." He said with a smile and started feeding his daughter. She enjoyed her baby food so much, it seemed. Cole thought for a few moments that he couldn't feed her fast enough. It didn't take long for Layla to finish her dinner either. Cole smiled as he fed her the last bite and stood up, "C'mon Layla, it's time for your bath." He said as he removed her from her highchair.

The bath didn't take long, though Cole did come out drenched. Layla had knocked over a cup of water that Cole had set aside. The resulting splash from the fall to the floor covered Cole almost head to toe. He came out of the bathroom with Layla in his arms, the little child wrapped in a towel. He walked over to Ava and offered her their daughter, "Care to get her dressed and in bed? That why I can get some dry clothes on?"

Cole walked into their room and changed his shorts before grabbing his pack of cigarettes and heading out onto their porch. He lit the cigarette and took in a drag, his body instantly relaxing. He hoped Ava would be able to join him, if not, he would be alright. The electrokinectic just wanted some alone time with her.....

Ava smiled letting out a small sigh as she sat down at the table shaking her head as she watched Cole eat '' Geeze did you no eat while you was away ? '' she asked giggling slightly as she ate her meal slowly grateful that he had offered to feed Layla for him she watched them both together seeing as meals where finished and Cole was taking Layla for her bath Ava couldnt help but grin she knew that they would both come out soaked but listening t her daughter squealing in happiness she didnt mind all that much.

Ava started to clear away the dishes and wash up so that everything was clear and clean for the morning hearing them bothing coming out of the bathroom Ava giggled taking Layla in her arms '' l take it the bathroom is like a swamp then '' she smirked kissing his cheek '' Yea l got this daddy go get cleaned up last thing you need is a cold '' she said happily giving his butt a quick squeeze and then winking at him before she quickly walked towards Laylas room getting her dressed in her little pjs in her back pocket Ava produced Layla bottle that was full of milk sitting down in the small rocking chair that was in Laylas room Ava fed her daughter humming happily to her as she watched her daughter start to fall asleep in her arms with help from the bath and the warm milk .

Settling Layla down in her crib Ava stood just watching her daughter sleeping for a few moments before she headed out to find Cole she had picked up one of his hoodie jumpers and slipped it on before stepping outside to join him '' Hey handsome ..'' she smiled as she reached out and hugged him gently taking a deep breath as she nuzzled into his neck for a few moments she then reached out and took the cigarette from his hand and took a small drag '' Thanks for sharing '' she whispered reaching down to take his hand '' Cole... l ..'' she sighed shaking her head '' Never mind ''

Cole finished the first cigarette and lit up another one. His body was just so tense that he could feel his toes fighting each other it seemed. As he took a drag off his second smoke of the night, Ava came out of the house. Cole wrapped his arms around her as she hugged him not fighting her for the cigarette. Cole smiled at her words, "You want a whole one?" Cole asked, offering her his pack.

He lifted her chin after she stopped mid-sentence. His lips claimed hers once more, this time in a deeper, more passionate exchange. Each of their tongues fought for dominance over the other. Cole pushed Ava to the corner of the porch before pushing her up onto the handrail. His lips finally left hers and traveled to her earlobe. He nipped at her earlobe before finally kissing down her jawline then her neck. Once at her neck, he sank his teeth in firmly and raked them across her flesh. After biting her as he had, he kissed back up to her lips; sinking the kiss even deeper as his arms wrapped around her body.

Finally, Cole stopped and broke the kiss. He panted slightly trying to catch his breath and regain his composure. He'd almost lost control of himself right on the front porch. He wouldn't mind it behind closed doors, but in the public view with their child in her bed alone in the house it was a different story. Once his breath was steady again, Cole took another drag off of his cigarette. "You had something you were going to say?" He asked her, keeping her in his arms.

Ava smiled shaking her head she rarely smoked anyway so the one drag was enough for her she was just glad that he was home she clung to him tightly just needing his warmth she couldnt imagine what she would of done with out him now it seemed like they where about to climb the biggest moutain possible that they could face as a family.

The thought was quickly wiped from her mind for a second as she felt his lips on her her fingers moved into his hair tugging lightly as she kissed back finally tugging on his bottom lip with her teeth a playfull growl escaping her body before she gasped at all his other teasing and thefact that she had been moved onto the handrail she then smiled at the bite her hands clenching hold of his shirt almost pulling him closer to her so that her long legs could wrap around his waist.

She then giggled at the way he was panting his breathing matched hers she loved the fact that he had on her body she looked into his eyes shaking her head slightly so that her hair fell over her face '' It doesnt matter .. it can wait till morning '' she grinned a cheeky grin as she pulled off her shirt showing off her lacey bra it was lucky that it was late out she then shimmied her chest slightly at him before slipping down off the handrail and walking inside and pausing in the door way.

'' Well are you coming big daddy? '' she purred happily to him .

Cole held his forehead against hers as she denied needing to tell him something. He wanted to call her out on it, let them get it out of the way, but before he could, her shirt had come off. Cole wasn't the smartest man in the world, but he knew what they both wanted at this point. When she stopped and looked back at him it took everything the man had not to take her right then and there.

He stepped forward, "Of course I am." With that, Cole followed her inside. Not even making it to the hallway before they picked up where they had left off on the porch. Their lips on each other as Cole pushed her back against the wall. He reared back and sank his teeth into her neck once again. Once in the hallway, they couldn't decide which wall they wanted up against. Cole pinned her to each wall, and allowed her to the do the same, leaving a trail of clothes from the front door to the bedroom. They continued to passionately give in to one another as they entered the room and the door slammed shut behind them.

Cole laid next to Ava in bed. His breath was still returning to normal, the sheets and comforter pooled together low on his waist. Layla had slept through Cole and Ava's passion, but there was no telling if she would sleep through the night or not. Cole slowly stood from the bed and walked out of the bedroom. He went into the kitchen and made a bottle for Layla just in case.

"Fuck..." Cole whispered to himself. "That may have been the best sex we've ever had." He told himself with a smile. The sex with Ava was after only a week of being gone. He'd gone longer but none of the reunions before had held so must passion in them. It was like the first time they'd been together all over again. Cole's mind flashed back to that night. The way it had set up. Rayne leaving again, Cole finally deciding it was time to let her go and start something new. And the courage he had to work up to ask Ava on a date.....

He walked back into their bedroom after placing Layla's bottle in the refrigerator. He laid back down next to her and rolled onto his side, wrapping her in his arms. "Ava... Do you remember our first time?" Cole whispered the question into her ear; knowing not if she was awake or asleep.

Ava smiled panting happily her eyes where closed shut her body covered in a cold sweat all she could was mumble in agreement she loved that they could be so close she wanted to hold onto that moment forever if she could.

Feeling him leave the bed she rolled over so that she was on his side of the bed her fingers where fiddling with her wedding bands feeling him come back to bed she nuzzled into his chest with a smile as she lightly kissed him '' Of course ... there was that huge thunderstorm we where watching movies ..l cant remember which one but it was getting dark the storm was getting worse the rain was banging on the window much like it wanted to come in and then the power went out but we just sat and talked .. that was the day you became my best friend..'' she whispered looking up at him her fingers lightly stroking his cheek '' Then we lit those tiny little tea light candles everywhere and you took me to bed wanting to keep me safe and warm ... and it happened '' she whispered blushing as a small yawn escaped from her lips as she nuzzled into his neck ever so lightly nipping with a cheeky giggle coming from her after a little while they had both fallen asleep.

Ava rolled over still in Coles arms she glanced at the clock it showed 3am she knew that Layla would need a feed soon so she climbed out of the bed wrapping herself in her dressing down and tip toed out of the bedroom and down the hall to the kitchen seeing as she had some time she went to the drawer grabbing the letter from the hospital and also Coles lighter she was going to burn the letter tears filled her eyes yet something stopped her she walked over to the cupboard by the tv pulling out a shoe box full of photos Ava tipped the contense on the table all the photos where off her motherwho had died from cancer too sitting down Ava looked through all the photos tears streaming down her face as she touched them before covering her face and sobbing
