[Dean Rexford]

Traveling again! It was Dean's favourite part of being a recruiter. The veterans complain. Even some of the newbies do but Dean, Dean loved it. Whether it was just a road trip or a bus trip or a plane ride away, he just loved being in a vehicle for long hours.

The profile was for an eleven year old, a rare occasion but not unheard of. Dean would have thought Kocher would have picked him up first but he had been informed that they already did but due to some conflicts and language barriers, Dean was sent to step in.

The file he was given only gave a location and how to get there and so he wasn't sure what the kid looked like. But that was half the fun!

Dropping from the plane, Dean was like a child, spending a little time at the airport just looking around before going to the car rental to get the car he was assigned to.

The drive was such a peaceful one and in no time, he was in front of the house. And what a big house it was.

Walking up the driveway to the door, Dean couldn't help but look around, taking in the sight before getting hit by emotions coming from the house. "Oh boy." He softly laughed before knocking on the door.

He hoped they were nice people in the big, big house.

There was a knock at the door.

"Ciaran, can you get that? Me and your mother are busy." The eleven year old stood up from his seat in the living room and walked to the door. He didn't like doing this - it was almost as bad as answering the telephone. But he pulled the door open all the same. A man stood outside. He looked much younger than Ciaran's dad, but that's not really saying much. His dad was the second oldest person Ciaran knew.

"Hello?" He asked the man outside, his bright blue eyes avoiding eye contact.

When the door was finally answered, Dean placed a big smile on his face, exuding calm and ease so the boy wouldn't be so frightened. The lack of eye contact made Dean smile a little sympathetically. He remembered being that way when he was approached by his recruiter.

"Hello." He replied cheerfully nonetheless. "My name is Dean Rexford." He introduced himself, reaching his hand out for a shake. "You're Ciaran, aren't you?" Dean asked, his head tilted to the left. "Are your parents around?"

Ciaran nodded slightly, but didn't shake the man's hand. How did he know Ciaran's name? "Err... If you'd like to follow
me." He lead the man into the kitchen then went to find his parents. He wasn't going to shout through the house to find them, so he had to go upstairs and actually search.

A few minutes later they all sat at the kitchen table, Ciaran's his parents on one side and Ciaran one the other. "What is it you want us for, sir?" That was his mother.

Dean smiled softly at the rejection, not taking any offence as he withdrew his hand, sliding it into his pocket. He followed the little boy, amused by how polite the tiny one was. Must have come with the mansion.

Waiting for the parents to come down, Dean took the time to look around. The kid was going to have to give up on a lot because of Hammel. He felt a little sorry for the boy. But it was definitely necessary.

"Hello Mrs. O'Reilly." He addressed the woman with a nod. "My name is Dean Rexford. I'm from the Hammel Institute. I'm sure you've heard of us before?" He asked gently, not wanting to alarm any of them. He added a little bit of calm through his empathy, ignoring the headache he was getting from having three confused people in such close proximity.

If his parents were at all worried, they didn't show it. Ciaran was confused, though. Not quite worried, but borderline. He wondered why this stranger had come to their house. His mother didn't seem too confused, though. Come to think of it, she never did.

"Ah, yes. The Swedish man said something about you. What is it you want to talk to us about? Is it about Ciaran?"

Ciaran himself remembered the old Swedish man. He wasn't very friendly and spoke weirdly. He had said something about a school. Ciaran had never been to a school. He wondered what it was like. Unfortunately, he would never know, not what a normal school was like anyway.

Dean knew many Swedish men, having been in Kocher for a good chunk of his life there but he simply smiled at the mention. "It most certainly is about Ciaran." He nodded calmly, glad the parents weren't showing any outward signs of retaliation or anything negative, really.

"As the Swede has probably told you, Ciaran has abilities that he needs to keep in control." Dean looked at Ciaran with a smile. "You're a bit special, aren't you, Ciaran?" He said, reminding himself that the boy's ability could be triggered at any random moment.

According to his bio sheet, Ciaran had Bioluminescence. It wasn't particularly hazardous but it could be blinding. "We're offering a place for him at the Hammel Institute in North America. We will be providing him boarding, food and a stipend." He started explaining to Ciaran's parents. "We are also open to the option of your family moving down to Vermont if you feel it's unnecessary for him to be boarded in the school."
