Sparkplug vs. Static Cling (Everett)

[Marley Rose]

Marley sat in the center of the room she was assigned to on an uncomfortable metal chair. The room wasn't too big, and it seemed very empty. Just two chairs and a few light fixtures. There was a lamp in the corner of the room. Everything was white. It was awful in Marley's opinion. It reminded her of a hospital room - but even more uncomfortable except for the fact that she got to keep her clothes on.

Today was the day she was being assigned a new trainer. Her old one didn't have much luck in teaching Marley and passed her off to somebody else in hopes that they could get through to her. Marley just wasn't great at learning. She gave up easily and didn't have the will to try hard in order to achieve things.

She hated training sessions. They made her feel stupid and pointed out everything she did wrong. Today she was even grumpier than usual about the matter, since the entire way down to meet her trainer she was being laughed at and called 'The Static Cling". That morning she had particularly high amounts of energy stored up within her, causing her hair to stand on end and her clothes to attract other small objects and cling to her like magnets. She didn't look anybody in the eyes as she passed them on the way to the small training room. It was the only way she wouldn't turn around and punch them.

Everett walked hastily down the hallway. He was running a little late. He'd been assigned to yet another student! Now he had two! And he wasn't making the best impression by not showing up. He was particularly excited about this student--because of her power. It was similar to his own, involving energy and often electricity. He had a feeling that he could help. However, if he had looked really close at her file, he would have seen that she'd been through quite a bit of trainers because of her attitude.

He took a sharp left, practically crashing through the training room door. He almost cringed at the room he was in. "Damn, someone needs to get some paint and decor in here," he said as he took in the white walls and lack of well...anything. His eyes then landed on a girl in front of the room who did not look very happy.

"Uh, sorry. It's just really bland in here." He shrugged and stepped forward to introduce himself. "You must be Marley."

Marley's eyes shot to the door when a blonde walked in, looking kind of rushed. His first reaction was about the blandness of the room, and Marley had to agree it was kind of... draining. It was like the life was being sucked out of her. Or maybe she was just releasing her energy without knowing it again.

Finally he noted that she must be Marley. She looked him up and down before locking eyes and saying, "Yeah that's me." She couldn't help being irritated. He seemed to disregard the fact that her hair was sticking up like somebody had rubbed a balloon over it, and tiny pieces of paper and dust were clinging to her sweatshirt. She didn't uncross her arms to shake his hand. She'd probably shock him anyway. She wondered for a moment what would happen if she ever shot too much electricity into someone. Would they fry? She shook the image out of her head, figuring that she didn't touch many people she didn't want to hurt anyway.

"Good. They sent me the right student. You wouldn't believe the mix-ups that are possible," Everett told her, wiping what wasn't much sweat off of his forehead and pushing another chair into the middle of the room, hearing it screech on the floor. "Sorry," he apologized before looking around. "Wow, I feel like I'm supposed to interrogate you or something." That's what this room made it feel like anyway.

He could recognize signs of her power immediately. Her hair was sticking up on end--a common problem he'd had as well and still sometimes did when he had too much static charge. It was all about releasing the energy in a safe manner. His hair sticking up like that sort of became his trademark back in his Hammel days. He crossed one leg over the other and opened the file of hers that he had under his arm. "Alright, so...you've been here a few months. Power is ergokinesis and you're 15. I'm guessing you manifested recently?" It was really hard with this kind of a power. You suddenly had so much energy that you weren't used to and didn't know where to put it. He could relate to that, although it was a bit different.

Marley kept a close eye on Everett. He was kind of jittery. And oddly sweaty. He liked to ramble and even when he finally sat down it was like he couldn't settle down. He listed off a ton of things about Marley that were apparently written down in her file, kind of the way a doctor would talk to you at a physical. It was a little weird.

When he asked if she manifested recently she lifted an eyebrow, tempted to say No I burst out of the womb and every last piece of machinery in the hospital melted, but restrained herself. The guy deserved a chance, anyway. Marley may have a way of bitching people out, but tried to only direct her attitude at people who deserved it. "6 or 7 months ago," Marley said simply - sticking to saying as few words as possible. Even though he didn't give her a reason to hate him yet, she was still disgruntled. A couple of the lights on the side of the room flickered, and she rolled her eyes, knowing that it was her fault but not knowing how or why.

[Everett Lilien]

"Alright," Everett said with a nod, pretending to make some sort of note, when all he really did was doodle Captain America's shield quickly on the paper. He looked up at her once more. "I've heard you've gone through a couple of trainers and now you've been passed onto me. I'm Everett. Please do not call me Mr. Lilien." He remembered the time of not even having your power for a year. He'd caused short-circuits everywhere, nearly got electrocuted in a storm and shocked several people on a daily basis until he'd really dedicated himself to training.

"I know that you probably think this place is a shit hole. At one point so did I. But I had a great trainer who really made an impact on me," he explained, looking around as the lights flickered. Ah, that reminded him too much of himself. He concentrated for a second and waved a hand, trying to keep the lights steady as he knew she was harnessing too much energy at once. "I have electrokinesis. It's similar."

Marley raised an eyebrow at her trainer. She didn't really want to call him Everett. She didn't really want to call him Mr. Lilien either. She didn't particularly want to call him anything. He talked to her like he was some sort of therapist. I know you probably think this place is a shit hole.. Well yeah, of course she did. Mostly because the world is a shit hole.

He waved his hand to stop the flickering, which Marley appreciated merely so she wouldn't feel like she was about to have a seizure. He told her he had electrokenisis. Apparently similar enough to her power. "This morning my pen melted in my hand," she noted, trying to point out just how different their powers could be. While Marley did often have the most problems with electricity, she also gave off heat and light. Some nights she glowed so much that she couldn't sleep. She had the bags under her eyes to prove it. Sure, electricity was one of the main reasons Marley became "over charged" but she could also just step into the sun and pick up its heat energy. There was energy everywhere and it was kind of ridiculous.

Marley didn't seem to want to talk too much. She had the whole 'moody teenager' thing going for her, but he could only guess that a lot of that attitude was because of her power. Her response wasn't what he'd been hoping for and his face fell at it. "Well, that's not really a problem that I had..." he trailed off. Okay, so her power was a bit more extreme. Mostly because it wasn't just electric energy, but all sorts of kinds of energy. But he could still help her control it because it was relatively the same for controlling all parts. "But I still think that I can help you. It's a kinetic power and I went through rigorous training to control mine."

"Yeah..." Marley started, curling a longer piece of her hair around her finger, watching some tiny static sparks fly off the wisps, "I don't exactly... do... rigorous." It wasn't even that Marley didn't have the drive to put in the effort. In fact, when she was faced with a task she really truly thought she could accomplish, her work ethic went through the roof. But Marley liked to set the bar low. She hated disappointment, and frankly she felt like she had enough of it in her short 15 years.

The bright eyed blonde wouldn't fool her either. He acted like they must have so much in common, just because both had an ability relating to kinetics and balance of energy. Just because he knew what it was like to be a kid with a wild ability that freaked out your hair and screwed with your sleep schedules, didn't mean he knew what it meant to be Marley.

[Everett Lilien]

"Well, you're going to have to," Everett said, quite honestly. "A power like yours can be dangerous if not properly handled. You need the training. Everyone has to go through it and it sucks, but like I did, you're going to have to get over it." He wasn't the best at being firm, but he felt he had to try to get through to Marley. She was stubborn that was for sure. "And you're lucky because I'm a lot less of a hardass than my trainer," he pointed out, remembering Mike.

You would think with seemingly how many problems she was having, that she'd want to control her power. That was something Everett didn't get.

Marley crossed her arms across her chest, and rolled her eyes just slightly at Everett. "Whatever," she mumbled, still not impressed by the trainer. She didn't like how he talked to her like she was just some dumb kid. Like she didn't realize the danger her power could cause. Were the scars on her face not enough to prove that she knew?

And he was trying so hard to appear firm and in control, but Marley had the feeling that he wouldn't know what to do if she just got up and walked out. He probably wouldn't even attempt to stop her. She was tempted to do just that, but the prospect of walking back to her room through a chorus of "Oh hey look! It's Miss Static Cling!" wasn't exactly appealing to her.

The whole moody teenager thing was beginning to grate on Everett's nerves. He understood hating being at Hammel, he understood not wanting to deal with your powers because you shouldn't have to, but she wouldn't open up. She would just mumble something every so often, usually something rude or with an attitude and Everett was getting tired of wasting his breath on her.

"I don't understand what you're expecting out of this training," he said, leaning forward in his chair. "Do you want to continue to be out of control with your power?" That was the main question.
