Sometimes the dreams that come true are the dreams you never even knew you had.
It was a stormy night. Lighting shot across the sky, followed by roaring thunder. The wind was whipping up the sea and the rain was pouring down, making all the unfortunate souls who dared to step outside soaked to the bone. It was chill enough to make anyone wish that they hadn't left their bed that night, tucked under their warm and cozy blanket. But no, they had already stepped out and there was work that had to be done. They knew it, and they knew that once they stepped out of their safe slumber, there was no going back.
The white sails flickered in the strong wind, and the creaking sound of the wet wood made the view above them all appear ghost like. The sky was as black as a bottomless pit and the only source of light was the thunder and the lamp hanging at the bow.
Some were running scared. Some were going home. Some lied to make it through the night and others were just now facing the truth. Some were evil men at war with good. Some were good, struggling with evil. And in the end, it did not matter. Because it all came down to one thing, and one thing only; They were all going to die tonight.
The door flew open and a man came running inside, his eyes wide and wild, his breath rushed. ''Captain! You're needed outside!'', he called and let his red, numb hand run through his gray hair. He looked tired this man. After so many years out on the sea, providing for his wife and seven kids, one couldn't really blame him. And he looked scared. But who wouldn't have been? Lux stood up and cocked her hat to the side. ''I'll be right out, sailor.'', she said and folded her hands over her stomach. She was the captain of The Lioness, the only remaining pirate ship in the pacific ocean. At least, that's what they claimed.
Walking out onto the deck, Captain Lux took a look around into the darkness, not caring about the ice cold water soaking her. No, she was used to it by now. It was nothing new. After so many years out on the sea, one had pretty much seen it all. Everything and nothing. ''Get that sail down!'', she called out. No, having the sail up in such a storm was no good. It would either break or drag them somewhere they wouldn't want to be. She was grateful to see that her orders were followed and several of the sailors rushed to get the white sail down.
Another lightning shot across the sky, making the blackness around them look surreal. It was amazing, how the power of nature could create such fright in people. She could see it everywhere. In the eyes of her men and inside her own heart. She was scared, but not of death. Oh no, even she knew there was much more to fear than death itself. Lux was scared of the bottomless abyss waiting for her down below. The unknown.
