[Honor Sayers]

Folding up her walking stick, Honor sat on the chair she had stopped at earlier and threw her stick on the table angrily, not even caring if there was anybody on the table. It would be even better if it hit someone right now.

That stupid little shit of a trainee had knocked her glasses off her face with the ball she had asked him to lift with his ability and he purposely hit her on the face!

She had managed to keep her cool on training grounds but then again, it was only because she had made him do the same thing to himself over and over again until he begged for her to stop. Served him right.

"I swear I am employed at the wrong place." She huffed and slammed her palm down the table with a resounding thwack.

Thankfully, Valentia wasn't sitting at the table, or she might have gotten a face full of walking stick.

But she had walked in at what appeared to be the right time. Or perhaps the wrong time? She instantly recognised Honor and the rather unimpressed look on her face.

Valentia's footsteps were prominent as she entered the room, walking with the intention of getting herself some coffee. "I often find myself thinking the same thing." She admitted with a small twist of her mouth.

When in doubt, an encounter with Honor is never a right time. On a good day she was unpleasant. It didn't help that she was pissed.

She wasn't surprised however that the only person - if she was there earlier - to make her presence known was Miss de la Torres.

They were not friends in any capacity but Honor liked to believe that they had long since come to a mutual understanding that Hammel was a horrible employment judgement on their part. Honor should have transfered to Kocher but her visual impairment was an actual problem to them so she didn't bother even applying.

She didn't understand why Valentia moved though. She had it good. Or so Honor thought. Well, at any rate, it was better than this pansy-ass kumbaya singing hippy hole they were employed at.

"And yet we come here day after day, subjecting ourselves to heinous mediocrity because why? We owe these places for building us to where we are now." Honor smirked, not believing a word she was uttering.

Valentia always wondered what Kocher was about. She wondered why she opted to transfer to Hammel in the first place. And then she remembered - the only people she'd really refer to as residual family opted to live in Pilot Ridge.

And Maiella was now here too.

"I imagine you would thrive in Odarennyi." Its reputation proceeded it, after all. Most people were somewhat frightened of the rumours. If that were the case, the reality was much worse. "So long as you do not mind enlisting in the military as well."

But as she stirred a splash of milk into the dark liquid, it dawned on her that she'd never asked; "You studied here, correct? Was it always this way?"

Hearing the other meta base made Honor grimace. Not out of fear, mind you, but more to the fact that military relied a lot on sight and that was not something she had in abundance, clearly.

"I imagine if I could see, I would not be here." She shook her head. She hated the fact that this was the only place she knew would not kick her out for her impairment.

"This way? You mean a flowerchild colony?" She sneered and nodded. "I mostly trained myself. On the other students. I would have thought I would get thrown out because of that but," she shrugged to show that that had not been the case.

"All I can do here is make sure I control my temper. That only makes me lethargic."

Valentia instinctively pursed her lips as she pondered the thought. If sight truly did matter in a meta-bound military district. She assumed they wouldn't mind, in truth. But it seemed better not to mention that. She might cost the establishment a prized trainer.

"Flowerchild colony." Valentia repeated, her eyebrows furrowing. She imagined that was a bad thing, but rather than questioning it, she listened. Odarennyi would have thought her a prize, indeed.

"I imagine here they know your demeanour." She stated simply, walking towards the table and sitting across from her. She settled back into the seat with a small sigh. "Do they resolve it by sending you the most difficult cases?" Valentia asked curiously. Surely, her behaviour was useful when necessary to the higher power.

Honor thought nothing of the silence from the other woman, chalking it up to her not finding it necessary to confirm nor deny her opinion on the importance.

She did hear however a slight change in the inflection of the woman's voice when she repeated what Honor had said. It was stupid to think that children would actually learn how to control their powers by being in a prayer circle and praised for their mediocrity when they should be trained for the inevitability that one day, they would have to fight for their lives.

They were a minority, metahumans, and if they can't survive in a world that feared them, what was even the point of being blessed with their gifts?

Honor's eyes followed the other woman's gait until her sight landed just to the left of her lower right arm. "So far," the blonde smirked lightly. "The mildest case I've had was a pyrokinetic who keeps burning things because she sneezes too much." She responded by way of confirming that yes, indeed she was sent the more difficult cases.

"I'm sure you deal with them too," the tactile hypnotist remarked in a matter of fact tone of voice.

Valentia knew that Hammel was a lesser school than Odarennyi by miles. Though Anastasia didn't agree with the qualities the military provided, she could at least acknowledge that they were doing something right by training students for combat. To their own advantage, yes. But the system could easily be tweaked in other schools.

"A terrakinetic who thinks the world of himself." She replied simply. "And therefore, sometimes he does not feel like training."

She spoke a little bitter in that respect, as if annoyed by the fact that feelings were a defining factor in a student's choice. "Truthfully, I have never understood the mild approach to training. Perhaps it is because I have never been privy to it." Valentia glanced across the table as she paused, pursing her lips slightly as she mused on how to say what she was thinking; how to delve into the topic on her mind.

"It feels like a waste, does it not?" She asked eventually, "So much potential is wasted this way."

Hearing about the student, Honor frowned. She had heard of him before. There weren't that many terrakinetics to begin with so when Valentia gave her that little bit of information about said terrakinetic, it wasn't that hard to pinpoint which one she was referring to. "French...isn't he?" Honor mentioned the only other tell she was able to offer.

"You would think they would want the students to graduate and not stay and bother them because they are whiney little fucks." Honor rubbed her forehead tiredly before pushing her chair back and getting up to find coffee. Her hand grazed against the nearest surface until it landed on a hot circular object.

She hissed and blew on her stinging fingers before grabbing the handle and feeling for the cupboard above her for a mug. Finding one, she poured the hot beverage into the mug before returning to her seat. Agreeing to Valentia's statement, Honor took a slow sip of the coffee, cringing at how horrible the taste was.

"I wasn't trained by the best so I had to practice by myself. I guess that was a little fun. Got to pick who I practiced on and nobody ratted me out." She shrugged, wondering how she would have been had she been in Odarennyi.

"You're telling me." Honor scoffed, shaking her head in mild disappointment. "I'm quite sure if these snivelling brats got a taste of an actual training regime, they'd be able to actually survive in the world."

"He is." Valentia replied simply. She knew of his reputation, poisoned as it was.

"It's very problematic. Counterproductive." And perhaps that was what she found most annoying. It wasn't as if these particular regimes weren't in practice in other schools. She wasn't dead. She wasn't overtly affected. What was the harm in being a little stricter?

She turned her eyes down towards the cup in her hands. It was surprising to know that some weren't weakened by the flimsy regime offered at Hammel. That some sought out power by their own means.

It shouldn't have surprised her - look at who she was friends with.

"There was no choice at Odarennyi. No ability to back out. It was never ideal that ditching a session or a class was a viable option. It was not an option. It wasn't even a thought." As she spoke, she sounded confused. Confused as to why that seemed like such a bad thing in the first place. Confused as to why others found her thought process jarring. "Training students against each other was mandatory. And it was necessary. The world is not shifting in our favour. It never has been, and it never will."

Honor grimaced when her thoughts were confirmed. If she were the type to touch people willy nilly, that would have been the time where she would reach out to pat the other woman on the shoulder in comfort.

She made a noise of agreement from the back of her throat, thinking the exact same thing about how a lot more strict this school should be.

Sipping on her coffee once more, Honor winced again at the much too bitter taste of the coffee.

"What does this school think, that the people out there are going to be as understanding as the trainers are? What if a war breaks out between us and the baseline humans? Hell, what if our own kind waged a war on the students here? We can't all protect them. They should be prepared from now on so they won't need any protection." Honor pointed out, her grip on her mug tightening at her frustration.

It just didn't make any sense for the authority in this school to be so complacent and hope that they can integrate the students into the outside world with how they were training them.

"In some places, that scenario is not far from the reality." Valentia admitted, pressing her lips into an unamused line. After a small moment, she nodded her head briefly to one side. Simple quirks were lost on the woman before her, but to the Chilean-born Russian, that was a good thing. "Not to say a war has broken out. Such a thing would be impossible to cover. But the controversy - the tension, I mean - it overflows to conflict in some streets."

Even within the bitter context of the conversation, Valentia kept herself in check. Despite the disheveled accent her words wore, her dialogue was neat - cleaned of all emotional references. As it should be; "After Odarennyi, I served overseas for years. The oppression is... Palpable. If students knew what their lives could be-" Valentia abruptly stopped, a slight chuckle falling from her mouth as if something was so absurd it was, in a sense, funny. "Well, fear is a weapon within itself; a driving factor for a swift achievement. I'd like nothing more than to use it more frequently."

Honor grimaced at Valentia's response, agreeing without hesitation. The point she made was pretty clear. It was definitely something that was becoming an epidemic but nobody seems to understand the importance of being ready. Integration was a lousy approach to metahumanity. They were superior to the baseline humans, why must they hide?

"I couldn't agree more. I'm definitely considering the transfer now." She paused and her face scrunched up slightly. "The ties I have to Pilot Ridge I can't sever though." It felt a bit like a cop out, using Hope and her family as an excuse not to go. But if Honor was anything, she was honest. And family came first to the tactile hypnotist.

"Well, if I don't make at least one student graduate out of fear for being my student, I don't think I would die happy."

Valentia paused at the thought of family. She glanced across the way towards the blind trainer, studying her features in the remote silence, as if searching for something. Humanity wasn't on her own list of interests - no, she wondered how many were willing to scrutinise the woman across from her. How many were too afraid to even look in the first place, let alone study.

"I must admit, the thought of returning to Odarennyi has crossed my mind more than once." She said, as lightly as she could. But a lighter touch to her tone rarely worked in her favour. "I have ties, too. Ones that cannot be severed - and I would not wish them broken." Unlike those of her legitimate family. Still, a fraction of an almost disjointed chuckle fell from her lips. "And one I will never escape."

Standing up again as Honor spoke, she made her way towards the sink and left the now empty cup there. She laughed as best she could; she found the statement amusing. "It is good to know someone shares the sentiment." In a brief moment, she wondered about that. About not being alone in her beliefs in a place like this.

"And, it was good to run into you." She added with a small shrug, "To know decent company exists in these halls."

Honor could always tell when people stared. Usually she would lash out, strike them with her cane, but when she realised she was being watched, she lifted her head up to stare back. Of course, her gaze was a few inches off course but Valentia should be aware that she was aware.

The inflection in the Chilean’s voice was noted but was not remarked on. It was odd to respect someone enough not to point out their flaws or things she thought were…note-worthy. Her comment made Honor frown slightly, not knowing entirely what she meant. But she supposed it could be the military. Who could outrun them?

Her fellow trainer stood up, judging by the scrape of the chair and how her voice had moved and Honor followed the movement, a smirk on her face at the laugh. It was a sort of laugh that Honor rather enjoyed. Displaced…not always used. It intrigued the tactile hypnotist.

“I’m…glad I could be of service.” Honor replied with a curious tone in her voice before unfurling her stick, leaving the mug she had used on the table. Someone would do something about it sooner or later. Her hand reached down to find her glasses. “Enjoy the looks of dismay on the trainees for me.” She chuckled lightly.
