With ears to see, and eyes to hear (open)

Rain walked through the school courtyard, all the way to the classrooms. Classes had been over for about an hour now, so she figured no one would be around. It wasn’t that she had anything against other people at the moment, but she wanted a nice quiet space where she can work on some art stuff.

Once she was in the hall of the classrooms, she peeked into the laboratory room. Weird place to draw, but no one was in there. She figured it would be okay, she wouldn’t be messing with anything. She wondered if the teachers ever thought of locking some of these classes rooms. She walked into the room and sat down at the first table placing her drawing pad in front of her, she went through her bag, taking out the charcoal that she was going to draw with, and a butterfly figure that she was going to draw, which she had wrapped in a small kitchen towel so it wouldn't break. Yes, she did charcoal sketches, she could only do sketches, and charcoal was fun to draw with. She quietly started to work on her drawing, randomly humming as she did so.

Kelly wandered through the school hallways once more with his ever faithful sketchbook tucked under his arm. He went aimlessly down one hall and into another. He wasn't really doing this for a particular reason. Maybe he'd find something that would interest him to draw or run into a friend. Either way there'd be something to do in the end.

As he went down another corridor, one mostly filled with science class rooms. The Canadian stopped when he noticed movement in the lab. Peering in he saw a familiar girl inside with a drawing pad of her own and a little figurine. Kelly knew the girl inside as Rain, a fellow art club student. They've had friendly conversations, and had their share of laughs together. Still Kelly wasn't the most familiar with her, and were more of close acquaintances.

All the same Kelly entered to say hi and see what she was up to. "Hey there." He called out to let her know he was there. There was nothing worse than having someone standing over you while you draw and you don't even know who it is. Granted he was classmate so it was less worrisome, but it was still quite a bother. He straddled a chair in front of Rain's table and rested his chin on the back of the seat. "Odd place to do some drawing." He commented with a little grin.

Rain looked up as someone came into the room, she grinned as she recognized the person. She was kind of glad to see Kelly, just because he knew about art, and might be able to give her tips. She waved at him “Hi! Nice to see you outside of art club.” Rain saw him as a friend, but it didn’t take much for her to see anyone as a friend. She also liked how she had a friend in art club, she had been super nervous when she first joined that she wasn’t going to make any friends. Especially since a few people didn’t seem like the best of people.

Looking around the room, she did have to agree with Kelly, it was an odd place to draw. “I like odd places.” She smiled, she really did like doing odd things, and liked odd places, depending on the kind of odd… She looked at her drawing, realizing it wasn’t the best, she got self cautious. “Besides, I might as well do something in this classroom that I like doing, and have fun doing it.” She looked at his sketchbook, “Did you come out to draw too?” That was a stupid question, but she didn’t want to stop him from drawing, or sketching, or whatever it was he wanted to do.

Kelly grinned and nodded. It was nice to see people he knew outside of organized meetings and classes. It felt more casual and natural, and there was no need to play a name game like half his classes at the beginning of the year. He was glad about how art club may be full of different people but they could all have a nice chat while working on fun projects. It too was also casual, and a good way to meet others.

He shrugged at her answer. Rain had a point. If she liked something and someplace why not do it there? Made sense to him. Kelly looked down at his sketchbook. "Yep," he gave a nod. What he was going to draw he wasn't sure, but he was going to end up filling another page in the book, he was sure of that. Looking down at her little figurine, maybe he'd do a sketch or two of that from his angle? Seemed like an ok idea.

"Mind if I join you or shall I find my own creative corner?" He wouldn't mind if she did end up asking him to leave, everyone had their own creative little world. Sometimes other people around could mess that up.

Rain loved meeting people, anywhere, well not anywhere, but almost anywhere… But you couldn’t bond with someone in a classroom. So meeting peers outside of classes and clubs were awesome. Kelly was right, art club did have that relaxed atmosphere, but so did drama club. She guessed no matter what club or class you were in there was always going to be at least one person that got under your skin.

She blinked at him, then smiled gently, “Of course you can join me!” She didn’t mind company, and she was using to sharing her creative world thanks to art club. However, that still didn’t mean she wasn’t self cautious, she hoped it didn’t show. Her body was a bit tenser as she went back to her charcoal sketching. “Have… You ever drawn with charcoal?” Not looking up at him as she asked the question.

"Thanks." Kelly nodded with a grin. Opening his sketchbook to an clear page, he leaned it against the back of his chair. Line by short line he began his own little sketch of Rain's butterfly. It sat with the wings over lapping awkwardly from his angle, but he'd try his best. He kept his eyes on the figure and his paper, and would only look at Rain's with her permission. If Kelly respected anyone it would be artists.

He looked up at her. "A little. I've really only used it for final pieces rather than sketching." The Canadian wasn't sure if he would be able to get used to using charcoal in that way. It smudges so easily, and is very soft. He'd get frustrated with all the charcoal lines and smudges that weren't supposed to be there. "So, you like to use it then?" He went back to his paper, adding more defining lines to the picture.

Rain nodded to him, “How have you been?” Small talk, or otherwise this would be a little awkward, at least for her. Kelly was free to move where ever he liked, he didn’t have to stay where he was looking at the back of the figure. “Do you think you would be doing this for a living?” She looked up at him, and blinked, “Art I meant.” She really wasn’t sure if he was planning on doing something else for a career, or if art really was the way he was going to go.

The girl had done a lot of sketches in her room using charcoal before she ever started to do it outside of her dorm room where people could possible watch her, like now. However, she still wasn’t great at it, she was still learning, and practicing. “I see. And yeah I like using it, it’s fun.” She looked at her blackened fingers, she liked it mostly because of that reason. “Not to mention I’ve seen what people can do with it, and it’s really cool, and I really want to be that good.” She went back to her drawing, “how long have you been sketching?” It was nice to be this intimate with Kelly, they were never able to have these one on one conversations, and get to know each other. However, “If… You ever want me to stop talking you can always tell me to shut up..” Because she didn’t know if he felt the same..
