Thunder, lightning, and rain oh my (Flynn)

It was in the middle of the night as the thunder crashed, and lightning streaked the sky. Thunderstorms wasn’t the 15 year olds favorite thing in the world, and she actually disliked them. They were also sort of her enemy. They made her feel weak, and depressed, and moody, thunderstorms were her period, enough said.

Rain sat up in her bed, and hugged her knees to her chest. She was slightly afraid, okay more than slightly. She was kind of freaking out as she looked out her window. Thunder storms always scared her… When she was little she would snuggle with River as the storm passed. But now being at Hammel, she didn’t want to sneak into River’s dorm, cause she didn’t want to get caught, and she didn’t want to wake up River’s roommates. It was a hard life for Rain, what was worse is that it seemed like even the plants in her room were sad because of the thunder storm. And Ribbon was scared, he was so scared that he was hiding under her bed. She felt sorry for the little guy, she didn’t know what to really do for him.

She sighed, what was there to do in the middle of the night? She slowly got up out of her bed, but as she stood up she jumped from very loud thunder. She walked out into the common room, turning the light on, she really hoped that didn’t bother Izzy or Flynn. She started making herself a cup of tea, she thought that it might relax her, if only a little bit.

Unlike Rain, Flynn couldn’t care any less about the thunder. In fact, it didn’t even drag him out of the dream that he was having. Or at least not enough for him to stir completely. What did drag him out of his sleep, however, was the very loud thunder that took place while Rain was stepping out of her bed. It didn’t catch him off guard though. He actually opened his eyes slowly while a groan slipped past his lips. Seriously? He was catching up on sleep here! Flynn actually planned on continuing to do so, but as he turned onto his other side, eyes drifted to the small amount of light that could be spotted under his bedroom door.

With another groan, the boy sat up and got out of bed. A random shirt was snatched from his desk chair, tugging it on for he had only been wearing boxers. He wasn’t sure who might be in the common room, so he did decide to move in there somewhat decently. The sudden brightness made him squint his eyes and arms were now folded against his chest for it was chilly after having slipped from under warm covers. “Can’t sleep?” He mumbled to Rain while lazily making his way over to her.

Standing next to her, Flynn shamelessly nuzzled his side against hers. “It’s cold here,” he grumbled before offering her one of his wide grins. He didn’t want her to feel awkward so he simply recreated some distance again and moved to a window. Moving the curtain aside, he glanced outside, up at the thunder. Letting go of the fabric, his gaze drifted to his roomie again. “Scared?” He faintly suspected so.

Rain wasn’t just scared of the thunder storm, but it mentally, physically, and emotionally effected her in many ways other than her being deathly afraid of them. She felt very weak, she felt very sad, and she was of course very scared. So she couldn’t ignore the storms, even if she tried, they just effected her in too many ways. And that in itself scared her.

When Flynn walked out and spoke, it made Rain jump in surprise as the microwave beeped to tell Rain her tea was heated up now. She took a deep breath as she looked at Flynn and shook her head, “Not really… I hate thunder storms…”

She looked at him with deep saddened eyes. The contact Flynn made had really comforted her. “It is..” Her hair was standing on end, she had Goosebumps from being so cold, she was very sensitive to cold weather. She grabbed her tea mug and started to walk over to Flynn that was till another loud crash happened, making Rain stop in her tracks and drop her mug from jumping once again. She sighed, as she looked at the aftermath of dropping the mug. It shattered of course, Rain felt like she was going to cry. Looking at Flynn she nodded to his question, as if dropping her tea wasn’t an answer enough. “yeah I am…” She wasn’t afraid to admit it, it’s not like she was hiding it very well. She went into the bathroom and grabbed her towel, then went and worked on cleaning up her tea. “Do You think this woke Izzy up?” she asked as she was now on the floor, trying to clean the puddle of liquid.

The last Flynn had expected as a reply to his question was Rain dropping the mug. It didn’t startle him as much as it made him feel bad for her. If his reflexes had been any better and the distance would have been smaller, he probably would have made an attempt to prevent it from meeting the floor, even if it meant risking to get burnt. If this were someone else, he would have made fun of them. But this was Rain, and it always suppressed his douche trait. With her heading into the bathroom, he was already squatting down to pick up the bits and pieces of the mug.

Offering an empathic smile, the panda shifter reached over for the towel. “Possibly,” he mused in reply to her question. Eyes drifted to their roomie’s bedroom door for a second. “But I’m sure she’s asleep again by now.” With that, Flynn gave the towel a gentle tug and got it out of her hands. His head nodded to the microwave. “Don’t worry about it, okay? Make yourself a new tea. I’ll clean up this mess.” It wasn’t as if he had anything better to do, right? Other than sleep perhaps. He couldn’t just head back to bed though. Not while Rain was in this mental state. The look on her face had said enough, and it made him begin to contemplate some options.

Rain didn’t want him to feel bad for her, she didn’t want anyone to be sad or upset because of her… At this point she would have rather had Flynn never come out so she wouldn’t have to be a bother to him.. It sucked to be her sometimes… However, she was very thankful that he hadn’t made fun of her, because in this mental state she would not be able to brush off comments like she would usually be able to do.

She blinked at Flynn as he was cleaning up her mess. “Oh.. You really don’t have to clean it… It’s my mess, I should clean it.” She looked at her hands as Flynn said she probably woke Izzy up. She was being a bother to everyone tonight… She looked at him, “Had I woke you up too? Earlier I mean..” She would never forgive herself for this… She should have just stayed in her room… “But…” She didn’t feel like arguing, so with a sigh, she got up and started to make herself a new cup of tea. Hopefully this one didn’t end up on the floor.

Rain looked at Flynn at his question, then went back to her tea. “I usually cuddle with River…” That wasn’t weird, right?

Flynn hadn’t intended for her to take it too seriously when it came to his answer about Izzy. Even if it had woken her up, it clearly didn’t bother her enough to come out and check. That, however, could also indicate that she hadn’t even heard the cup hitting the floor. It didn’t take him too long, by the look on Rain’s face, to figure out that he should think before speaking. So he opted to throw in a little lie to sooth her self-wrecking thoughts. “No. I was lying awake because of the thunder.” Technically that was true, so.

After that, he effortlessly cleaned up the spilled tea and soon rose to his feet again. “Do… you want me to get River for you?” Not that Flynn really felt like heading out of there though. Moving over to the small kitchenette, he draped the wet towel halfway in the sink and then turned to lean back against it with arms folded . “I could keep you some company if you want. Watch a movie or something?” Then again, he was close to positive that Rain would object to that offer. After all, she would probably feel like a burden to keep him awake. In that case he would come up with another suggestion.

Blue eyes rested on the girl’s face now. “You know you can always wake me up if something is wrong, right?”

Rain nodded at his answer, it helped a bit, knowing she actually hadn’t woken him up. But she felt like she was still bothering him. It was obvious that he wasn’t freaked out by the storm. She swallowed hard, then started drinking her tea. It helped, it soothed her in many way, but her thoughts weren’t soothed.

She looked at Flynn with wide eyes, he would really do that for her? She shook her head, “No, it’s fine.. I don’t want you to go out of your way to do that..” He might get caught… They weren’t supposed to be out of their rooms at this hour. “Besides, I don’t want to wake up River like that.. And you would probably also wake up his roommates, I don’t want that to happen…” Enough people were bothered because of her stupidity to not stay in bed. She shook her head again, “No, No, it’s okay.” She forced a smile, “I’m fine! You should go back to bed, and get some sleep. I’ll be fine.”

She looked at Flynn, running a hand through her dark hair. She merely nodded, “Alright, thanks.” Even though she knew she would never take him up on that offer…

Who on earth would catch them now? The last Flynn was worried about was that. Sure, they probably should be in their beds at this time at night, but the thunder storm was a decent enough reason to venture past their bedrooms. He had mentally predicted that Rain was refuse, so it didn’t come too much of a surprise. So the guy simply nodded and offered an empathic smile. The girl clearly felt uncomfortable and like a burden, and he rather didn’t strengthen that feeling while her emotions were already so jumbled. “Just… come and find me if something is wrong, okay?”

Of course Flynn sort of did feel bad about heading back to his room, but hopefully it would set her more at ease. Once inside, however, he lay down in bed again, yet couldn’t get any sleep. Instead his gaze lingered on the bottom of his door, able to tell if the light was still on or not. He probably shouldn’t have given in… and in turn that made him sit up. Perhaps a hug would have been more effective.

With a small sigh, the boy rubbed at his face. Maybe it was best to wait until she went back to her room. At least then he would know she was slightly more calmed and it would make his task at hand easier.

She really didn’t know what time the dorm monitors checked the hallways, or if they even did. Tonight they probably were considering the thunderstorm. Who could sleep with all the thunder? Besides, he would still be bothering River, and River’s roommates, she didn’t want that to happen. A little part of her wondered if there was any part in River that was growing tired of her.. Not that anything changed between them, but just because she was clingy… He had his own things to do, his own friends, and all that, he didn’t need his sister around, especially trying to sneak in his bedroom. She was fifteen years old, she also had to grow up some time. She looked at Flynn and nodded, but before he would walk back to his room, she hugged him. “Thank you.” She then let him go back to his room to sleep.

After finishing her tea, which didn’t take too long, it never took her long to drink tea, she loved it too much to even put the cup down till she finished. She washed the mug, dried it, and then put it back up. She then went to the bathroom, because she really had to pee after drinking the tea. After finishing in the bathroom, she turned off the lights, and went back into her room. She flopped on her bed, she felt a little bit more happy thanks to all the plants in her room that made it look like she lived in a jungle. Ribbon was still underneath her bed though, she made her sad and feel for the creature. She moved underneath her covers and curled up in a ball, trying to ignore every feeling she felt other than the bit of happiness.

He had left her there by herself, still terrified and without an option for that to diminish since the weather did not settle down. Based on the light that crept under his door, he could tell the girl hadn’t returned to her room yet. He could also hear her cleaning up. She probably did it at that moment as a way to distract herself. Eventually the lights went out and it became quiet in the common room. Flynn hesitated a couple more minutes before he heaved a sigh at himself and once more slipped from underneath the covers. He didn’t bother switching on the lights while heading over to the door that led into Rain’s bedroom. The faint moonlight filtering through the curtains of the common room provided his enough illumination to find his way.

A gentle knock was given before he slowly opened the door. Poking his head inside, Flynn spoke up in a whisper. “It’s me.” After that, he pretty much gave himself permission to enter. The door got closed before he stepped over to the bed. At that point the panda shifter did hesitate for a couple of seconds, but then he slightly lifted the covers enough to get comfortable underneath them without creating too much of a draught. Shifting closer, an arm slipped around Rain’s side, giving her a little hint to diminish some of the distance if she pleased. He wouldn’t force her to do anything. “I… am pretty cuddle-worthy.” Flynn finally whispered to explain his presence. If Rain wanted him out of there, he would leave. “If you want that…”

It was okay, everything was okay. She had told Flynn to go back to bed. She was a big girl; she could take care of herself. She jumped as she saw a flash of lightning from her window. Okay, she wasn’t a big girl; she was such a two year old right now. She couldn’t help it, she didn’t know what to do.. She never liked thunderstorms, she hated them, they were a part of the few things she hated.

Rain was underneath her blankets, head to toe. She did not want to come out for the life of her. Then she heard the knocking on her door, even if it was gentle she still jumped. She really was not in the right mind set. She poked her head out from under the sheets and blinked at Flynn. “I thought you went back to bed..” She moved backward to let Flynn in, not sure why, but it had just been a general thing that happened. She gulped, and looked at Flynn with grateful eyes, he was so going to get his own batch of cookies tomorrow when she made some. She moved closer to Flynn, wrapping her arms around his torso, and nuzzled into his chest. This may be very awkward for Flynn, but it felt natural to Rain. “Thank you… and I’m sorry.”

Okay, it definitely was very awkward for Flynn, but he could deal with it. This was Rain after all, and he had brought it upon himself when he had decided to climb into the bed to comfort her. He could be in his own right now, so. Only once he was fully settled did the guy speak up. “What are you sorry for?” The guy didn’t talk too loud as a hand now settled on his roomie’s back, caressing it in a comforting manner. His eyes had closed again, knowing that despite the fact that he avoided being in this position with girls, he was capable of drifting off like this. Exhaling softly, his cheek eventually came to rest on top of her head and he let the girl’s scent soak his nostrils. In a way it was comforting.

“Better?” He asked in nothing above a whisper. If someone were to enter the room now, even though he had no freaking idea why anyone would, it might raise a lot of questions. Not that anything wrong was taking place though. Flynn opted to throw in a little joke, but at the same time it was also to make sure she wouldn’t get in trouble because of him. “Maybe we shouldn’t tell anyone about this… Girls might want to kill you out of jealousy.” With a faint chuckle he moved his other hand to her back as well. The proximity proved some warmth. It was a pleasant benefit of having his soft side come out.

“For being a pest…” First she had went out into the common room, she should have just stayed in her bed… Then she dropped, and broke her mug, which had been her favorite mug, her poor minion mug. Now she was being a pest by having him in here cuddling her… Maybe she shouldn’t have told him she cuddled her brother when there were storms… Though, having someone next to her, the body warmth, and the comfort of his arms wrapped around her made her feel so much calmer.

“Yes.. Thank you.” For some reason it felt weird to have him whispering to her. It just made it seem like an intimate thing, though she kind of knew Flynn wasn’t really into intimate things outside of well sex… Did she really know him that well? Or was it just the rumors that had been floating around about him? “Do you want to go mini golfing maybe thing weekend?” She kind of wanted to go out and do stuff before it started to snow, at that time she would be staying indoors… But she also wanted to get to know Flynn more, and how else to do that other than do an activity together? She really hoped it didn’t come off like she was asking him on a date… “Jealous…” It was a foreign thing for her, for other girls to be jealous of her… What would they be jealous of? Then again, it would be Flynn that steamed the jealousy, not her… “I don’t think anyone has ever been jealous of me..” She looked at Flynn, “has anyone ever been jealous of you?” The more selfish question… She looked at his chest, “Do you think guys would want to kill you out of jealousy?” She sighed, “Oh! But I won’t tell anyone.” She smiled, “Our secret.”

Flynn had smirked and had rolled his eyes. A pest? Seriously? What Rain might not realize is the fact that she was one of the few people he softened his attitude for. Even if she were to be the whiniest person in the world, he would still move over and embrace her. The panda shifter could not explain why, but it was what it was. And she was not a pest. Perhaps it would have been better for him to state it out loud, but surely Rain had heard his reaction, which in turn should give away just how ridiculous he judged that statement to be.

When she asked about the mini golfing, it kind of caught him off guard. Of course it also indicated that the girl probably did not feel like a pest anymore, but it simply felt weird to get such question. Flynn couldn’t help but joke about it. “What? Are you asking me out on a date?” The softest of chuckles accompanied that before the young man opted to turn a tad bit more serious again. He knew Rain was sensitive to such reactions, especially now, so he rather didn’t add to the current emotions. Instead his hand resumed stroking her back and, even though she couldn’t see it, a nod joined in as well. “But yeah, mini golfing sounds good. As long as you’re not a sore loser.” Grinning, he soon looked down, which in turn had him shift some in order to make it easier to maintain some sort of eye contact.

“Jealous of me? Probably. I mean, who wouldn’t be jealous of my awesomeness?” A laugh filled the bedroom before eyes settled on Rain who now seemed to focus on his chest, probably out of discomfort. While she might think that her question was selfish… it wasn’t. Ever if it were, the tone of her voice completely eliminated it. If someone was being selfish here, it had to be Flynn who was full enough of himself to declare himself to be awesomesauce. “Yeah, sure. Without me around, they might have a chance at being popular.” His grin faded though, since he knew that was not what she meant. His voice grew softer. “But they would also try to take my life if they knew just how amazing my roomie is and that she makes me cookies and how cute she is when scared of the thunder…” He paused and had a playful gasp slip past his lips. “Omg… if I get killed, it is going to be your fault!” At that point a finger poked her side a couple of times. He had yet to find out whether or not she was ticklish.

Rain did see his reaction.. But took it a completely different way than he meant it… Had he laughed at her? And thought that her concern was just a joke? Or did he think she was an idiot for whatever reason? Or was she being even more of a pest for being sorry she had been a pest? She wondered what she should do now…

Cheeks turning a bright red/pinkish color, from the accusing prospect of Flynn’s question. She shook her head furiously, “no, no.. I mean… Uh… I wasn’t trying to… hmm I just… it’s just… Nevermind..” She moved a little away from Flynn and looked down. First she made a fool of herself for apologizing for being a pest now she was making a fool of herself just by wanting to hang out with a friend… She was a horrible person.. “We don’t have to.. It’s fine..” she said sheepishly after he said he would want to. But now it felt awkward.. For her at least..

Rain smiled at Flynn, his egoness had lighten her mood a little. She always found it weird how he was so.. egotistical. Then again she found it weird when anyone had an over the top ego… How did they get that way? Did they will themselves, or was it just natural. “You are awesome.” Jealousy was a difficult subject for Rain; she really didn’t know what it meant, or what the feeling was. She never wanted something that someone else had, she was always content and grateful for what she did have… Continuing staring at his chest as he answered her question, he was right that really wasn’t what she meant, but she would take it. She gave a slight smile, “I see. You are kind of popular.” All the girls loved him. It made her feels weird actually thinking about the fact that Flynn didn’t cuddle with anyone. How did he survive without cuddles? She blushed as she heard his actual answer to his question. Looking at him with her widest smile, she was happy with that answer. “You think I’m cute right now? And not actually a pest?” Her eyes widen and not in a good way, “Noo…” She snuggled up really close to him, and wrapped her arms around him tightly. “I wouldn’t be able to handle that guilt..” She couldn't help but smile, and squirm a little when Flynn started to poke her. She was very ticklish. "Stooooppp"
