Dances, something that required a lot of unnecessary contact, flashing lights, and blaring music. Which, when all mixed together, could pave the way for an exceptionally bad headache if he wasn't careful. He did need to keep current events out of his mind though. Boys were pretty much stupid, no matter where it was you lived, oh and confusing as well. Dances though, were a place to mingle, have fun, and get your mind off of things.
When he was thirteen, and first brought into Hammel, he didn't really understand the concept of dances. Only going to a few very supervised ones at the beginning of his middle school life, back before he had come to Hammel, Alex never had fun. It was probably because there weren't a lot of boys to go with, and anyone's that he may have liked took girls. It was all very confusing and tragic, but the youth got over it quickly. When he showed up on Hammel's doorstep, though, he almost got whiplash from the amount of change there was to be found. The school was, first of all, very accepting of all types of different things. He probably should have expected it, seeing as everyone was already different in their own ways because of their manifesting powers. They also had great dances.
Go forward three years, and you have Alex, pretty use to dances by now. He had even got a few guys to go with during those years, and had a blast. This dance though, was a little different. A friend of his had set him up with some guy, a friend of his friend, to go to the dance. He was assured that this option was probably '10,000 times better than the matchmaker, because duh~, I think my idea of a good match is better than some teachers', and in all honesty he couldn't really argue with the logic.
A mirror stood across from the teen, and he had to admit that he was pretty proud of his costume. A robin-hood-esque sort of deal, with a boy and arrows to boot. The costume and the idea had been a gift from his previous foster parents Tommy and Jack, and he had to admit that it was a pretty great costume. There were only a few finishing details to go over, ok just one, and that was pretty much his hair. He really wasn't sure what to do with it, make it look messy, make it slick? Alex decided to go with slick, and quickly retreated into the bathroom to get everything ready.
By the time he was done, the anxiety was already starting to kick in. Blind-date horror stories raced through his mind, as he made his way to the door. Once in the Co-Ed hallways, Alex immediately found himself taking stock of the other people milling about. Some people moved from room to room, others were heading out of the level, and others waited in front of doors for their dates. A pretty cute blonde guy stood outside one of them, grey suit and a gaudy orange t-shirt, Alex wasn't really sure what was up with that.
Before he caught himself staring too long, the teen made his way off the Co-Ed floor and out of the dorm building all together. The air outside was crisp and cool, fall always brought that chill into his bones that only made his anxiety worse. Though cold, the walk to the auditorium was pretty short. Alex stopped short of entering for only a few moments. No, no Assassin's Creed characters out here. Alex gulped a bit and moved inside. He could already hear the music in the main auditorium as he made his way in, looking around small groups of students as they milled about the area.
Eventually, his eyes caught white and red, and Alex felt his heart jump into his chest. There was his blind date all right, and he moved through the small groups of kids to introduce himself. "Ah.. are you Ryder?" He asked, sheepishly. Wow, the guy in front of him was actually pretty cute.

Alex wasn't really sure what to do, there wasn't exactly a guide book on 'What to expect on a blind date', so, unfortunately, he didn't really know what to expect on a blind date. He remembered the guy's named would be Ryder, and that he would be dressing as Ezio from Assassin's creed. The teen had to give the idea props, he always loved good video game character costumes. He himself would have gone as something more recognizable and referenced, but he couldn't turn down Tommy and Jack's offer to make him a costume, besides, he thought he looked pretty good.
