Okay, so…
Yesterday I was at the apartment alone and I heard someone knocking. I opened the door and there was a guy there claiming to be fundraising for a trip to Italy. I let him inside (I know, it was stupid of me) and, thinking I was signing something to help him, I filled in my name on the bottom of a form. He then said that I needed to buy a magazine subscription or else it would look like he was stealing my money, since I had left my signature on what turned out to be a receipt. I’m not very good with one-on-one conversations and I’m afraid of disappointing random strangers (ie, everyone), so I felt obligated to. I gave him 77 dollars.
When he left I found out that the company on the receipt, Explorer Communications, is a big scam company. It says that I can cancel my subscription within 3 days if I filled out the form on the back of the check and sent it (which I have) but I’m not holding out any high hopes for the future, especially after reading these complaints:
www.scambook.com/company/view/101676/Explorer-Communications
So essentially I just lost 77 dollars for nothing.
do NOT open the door for people you don’t know!
do NOT humor these people!
In addition, these scammers have the potential to be incredibly dangerous. It appears they don’t conduct background checks (and why would they tbh) so what seems like a salesman might be a dangerous criminal. I’m glad I wasn’t hurt, but still.

IF SOMEONE KNOCKS ON UR DOOR CLAIMING TO BE FUNDRAISING FOR A TRIP TO ITALY/GERMANY/WHEREVER DO NOTTTT BELIEVE THEMM
im very saddened and disappointed in myself for believing these lies and of course I feel really really stupid.
