Powers:  Enhanced Awareness. This means that she is always aware of her surroundings.  This does not affect all her senses, only sight and smell. She is aware of where everyone and every object is in a room. She also is able to see the slightest movement. For instance, if someone tried to sneak up on her they would have a hard time because she would know where they were, but she may just let them try to sneak up on her anyway. She can tell if someone is using their gift on her though, such as mind control, but she wouldn't be able to stop it. Also, her sense of smell is advanced as well, helping her to smell things before others do and even smell it stronger, but she can't smell a mile away or something like that. This also can help her smell things that aren't supposed to be in her room or some other place. For example, she could smell if there is gasoline leaking out of a car and sometimes even where at, depending on where it is.
    There are disadvantages to this though. She gets distracted sometimes because of her awareness to things that are moving. When she sees something move she will look at it, but then she will usually go back to what she is doing. She tries to lay off of sweets because of this because when she gets hyper she is even more distracted.  Another disadvantage is having to smell some of the worst things out there such as tar, gas and blood. She has chronic nausea because of this, it causes her to get nauseated depending on what she is smelling and/or how strong it is. Also she suffers from OCD. If something is out of place she has to put it where it should be no matter what, even interrupting someone to do it. She also is very sensitive to light, causing her to have to where sunglasses at times in class.

General Appearance:  You can usually see her wearing a beany on her head. They feel so soft and warm, she even wears them in the summer time because of how comfy they feel. She usually has her hair down, unless she is running where she has it up in a pony tail. Her hair is long and straight most of the time, but on special occasions, such as dancing, she likes to curl it slightly to make it wavy or curly. She also wears dark sunglasses sometimes in class if her eyes are bothering her.
    She is usually seen with a smile on her face. She is usually smiling even if something sad is going on just to cheer someone up. She is also seen sitting down trying to distract herself from everything around her with her MP3 player or a book and sometimes even both. When she walks she sort of seems to dance because of how cheerful she is. When she is standing she even sways side to side, she never seems to stay still.
    Her clothes are pretty random depending on the weather and her emotions at the time. If it is sunny and she is happy then she wears bright colors, but depending on the temperature she may wear a jacket or nothing but a tank top. Her shoes usually stay the same, flip flops. She loves the sound they make when she walks. She also is seen wearing jewelry a lot, she loves jewelry. You will probably never see her wearing no make up or no jewelry. If she isn't feeling well then she will only put on eye liner, but she never goes without makeup or jewelry.
Personality:  Maria is a very caring person, she will give you the shirt off of her back, literally. If you need anything you just let her know and she will be happy to help you out. Even if you need help on a very hard subject she will go to the library, look it all up and even print out the subject's topic for you, but she will not let you cheat. She will even take an animal in if needed, even if it is something creepy, like a snake, if it needs help.
    Maria is pretty sarcastic when faced with a bully. For instance, if someone calls her a nerd then she will just smile and say 'thank you that means I am smart. Are you one too?' She doesn't like being bullied and if she sees that the bully is about to punch her she will move out of the way and walk away from the person. She is a pacifist though, she will never hurt someone, even if they punch her she will just let them if there is no way to escape. This can make her vulnerable at times though because she doesn't hurt people which makes bullies think they can hurt her. She also is seen arguing a lot when it comes to bullies. If they just bully her with words she will smile at them and probably tell them off.
    If she sees someone she likes she will become shy, which is rare for her. She loves to socialize and she loves people so if she looks shy and tries to walk off while blushing then she likes you or either someone in the room. If she has to talk to the person she likes she will stutter and trip over her words while giggling. She despises when this happens and hopes that she will never do that around a lot of people.
    Also, she loves healthy food and anything else that has to do with keeping her body as healthy as possible. She wants to stay fit for as long as possible. She is okay with someone eating unhealthy food but she rather not. She has had sweets before though and loves caramel, but she tries to not eat that much. If challenged though, she will eat a hamburger to prove that she can in fact eat unhealthy food without freaking out.
    There are ways to get on her nerves, even if this is rare for her. If you are a person who is prejudice against anyone she will stand up for them and tell you off. This isn't good though because since she is not used to having to tell someone off she won't stop until they either leave or hurt her. Once they hurt her she will try to leave and probably tell on them. Other things that tick her off are when people abuse animals, she will take that animal away from you and run off with it in her arms, if she can carry it. If she can't carry it she will still try to help, but since she doesn't hurt people she will block the animal from getting hurt so that they could hurt her instead, sort of like dodging a bullet for someone. There is only one way that she will ever attack someone physically and that is when someone talks about her Moms in a negative way or sees someone hurt them. Also if you hurt children she will hurt you, she may be a pacifist but there is only so far you can go before you crack.

Your Vices

Likes:  Bright colors, summer, animals, makeup,  people, parties, music, singing, jewelry, weather,  happy and cheery people, dancing, discovering new things, healthy food and playing outside.
Dislikes:  Not being able to move, bullies, unhealthy food, negative people, sadness, children crying, silence, hospitals, needles, doctors, photosensitivity, OCD and horror movies.
Strengths:  She is very good at socializing. If there is an awkward silence or something then she will usually break it by saying something funny or talking about something exciting. She also is very perceptive, but that may just be because of her gift. She loves her gift, but doesn't like it at the same time because of this. The reason that it is a big strength is because she could dodge something coming her way in time or even tell if something is wrong by watching someone's body language.  She is also very good at singing and dancing, but she just thinks she sings and dances normally. She loves to sing when she is bored or sad, it distracts her from what is going on.
Weaknesses:  Distracted easily: This is the only thing she doesn't like about her gift. Imagine trying to study while someone in the room keeps moving around or even having a thunderstorm outside. She cannot concentrate when this happens, although she wishes she could just mute the gift when this happens. She is a horrible fighter, but she wouldn't know this that much because she doesn't try to fight. If someone tries to hurt her she will probably just run away or shriek in fear. She doesn't like admitting that she is a coward near violence but the truth is that she is. She has OCD because  of her gift and so if something important is going on she will still walk over to an area to pick that sheet of paper off the floor that keeps taunting her. She also has sensitivity to light and sometimes even has to wear sunglasses in class if the lights are too bright.
Fears:  Needles, this is an irrational fear though because she has never had a bad experience with them, the same goes with surgery, anything hospital related.
Secret:  Her parents are lesbians who adopted her. This is for their own safety too her though because she doesn't want anyone to hurt them just because they love each other.

History

Juan and Garcia Stephans never wanted a child, but when Garcia became pregnant they did everything in their power to help. They named their little girl Maria after Garcia's friend who had recently died of natural causes. Maria was never told this though because they were waiting for her to grow older so that she would understand why. Things changed though and they soon found that they could not afford their child, no matter how much they wanted to keep her. They were living in a small ghetto-like town in Luckenbach, Texas where hearing sirens was the norm. Juan worked as a bagger and Garcia worked at a hotel as a housekeeper. They didn't want to admit it, but they knew this had to be the right thing to do.
    They soon brought a two year old little Maria to an adoption agency, they didn't know what else to do. They were told that their daughter would be in good hands and that they had nothing to worry about. A long time and a long hug later and they left their daughter. They did this in hopes that their daughter would become one with many dreams that came true, and they never saw her again.
    Things got a lot better after that though, Maria became one cheery human being. When she was five it took a lot of people a long time for her to calm down enough for someone to try to adopt her. As time moved on she became more calm, but she seemed to start getting distracted. When she went to her first day of middle school they couldn't get her to concentrate, she would look out the window and point at a bird with a huge smile on her face. They soon laid her off the candy and other sugar items thinking that was the reason she kept acting this way. They soon found out it was ADHD, doctor's diagnosis, and gave her medicine so that it would help her calm down enough to concentrate in school.
    One day, when she was around 11 years old, two ladies walked in the agency with a hopeful look in their eyes. One of the women looked unsure but the other one told her it would be okay. They smiled at each other and walked in one of the rooms with children running around. There was one who caught their eyes and it was Maria. She was laying down with a book in her hands and earplugs and those two ladies knew they had found the one that they wanted, but the problem was that it would take so long for them to even adopt the girl. 
    Her ADHD was finally simmering down all thanks to the medicine, but she was still getting distracted because of how long it was taking for them to even adopt her. She was thinking it would be a breeze but of course nothing went your way when you thought like that. It had been four months and still nothing was happening, too Maria. The Gonsalez's talked to Maria as much as they could, happy that she was so sweet and cheerful, for that was what they needed. Maria became close to them both and immediately wanted them to adopt her. They had to tell her that it would take a long time, but that they hoped she would not be frightened of them being lesbians. This confused Maria, why be scared of lovers? That was the best thing ever. 
    She was coming home one day from school, twelve at the time, with her earplugs in and humming happily to the song. She was so tired of everything that moved at the moment, the temperature didn't help either with it's cold breeze touching her skin. She sighed and looked side to side and didn't see anyone so she crossed the road. Then that's when she saw a car heading her way, she screamed and dodged it in mere seconds, only earning a bruise where her leg slightly touched the car. The person came out of the vehicle asking if she was okay and that it was a miracle she missed her. Maria couldn't talk and so she just nodded her head and wobbly made her way inside.
    She was trying to figure out how she knew that the car was coming, she didn't even look at the vehicle when she dodged it. Maybe she was just freaking out and ended up just running like a chicken with it's head cut off? The next day she was getting ready for school when she heard her name being called out. Like any good girl she smiled and walked toward a person she had never seen before. The guy smiled back and finally admitted to why he was there. Apparently the driver told a lot of people of what happened, Maria just thought he was over exaggerating. Maria didn't think anything she did was a gift and she told the Hammel recruiter that very thing.
    He smiled and nodded his head and asked a few questions. 'Just looking at me, where is the vase of flowers and where is it moving?' Another man went slightly behind her with a vase, but she could still see where it was by her sharp peripherals. He moved them side to side and up and down, her eyes followed them even though she was trying to look at the guy in front of her. It was like when you stare at a book but with your peripherals still seeing other things around you move. Maria just chuckled and pointed without looking where the vase was and followed her the vase with her finger, but still looking at the man. The guy only smiled and said nobody would have known that unless they were aware of everything by, at least, sight, among other things. She still didn't get how that was a gift and she didn't want to leave. She told him she had two people who wanted to adopt her, but that they had to wait a while. At the time though Maria didn't know if that would ever happen. The Hammel recruiter said that it was okay and that they could visit her on vacation and things like that. This made Maria very happy and she followed him out willingly.
    She isn't really fond of the cold weather in winter at Hammel, but other than that she loves it there. She is always smiling and laughing with her friends and even people she just met. It never seems like she has any problem with her gift or anyone at the school at all. The truth is though that her gift is amazing and she loves it, but she can't stand how distracted she can get and how horrible some things can smell. There are times when she will stop listening to the teacher and look at a student who may be just drawing or walk past tar and almost puke because of how horrible it smells.
    Finally in the year of 2010, Stephany and Serena Gonsalez, the ones who wanted to adopt Maria, got married in Vermont. They had to admit that they were a little impatient with getting married, not only because of their love for each other but also because of Maria, they wanted her to be happy even if she said she was already. To top it all off, the next year she was finally adopted by them. Now she is happily adopted to two wonderful parents. If someone asks her who her parents are she may not answer that question until she knows that person well enough to know that her parents will not be harmed. She doesn't keep this a secret out of shame but only because she loves her parents and doesn't want them to get harmed. She now is staying at Hammel and helping people out as much as she can.

Roleplay Example

Maria listened to the teacher with a huge smile on her face. She was doing it, there was no distractions! Maybe it did help that this was just tutoring class and that she was the only one there, but at least now she could understand what Biology was all about. She sighed and wrote down the notes her teacher was telling her and just kept smiling. Should I admit to the teacher that I did not take my medicine? Nah...    
    The weather was rainy outside but she was happy so she was wearing her dark beany on her head a jacket that was also dark, but with a tank top and green jeans on. She loved bright colors but when it was rainy she also wore dark colors for some reason. Speaking of the rain, Maria started looking over to watch the drops on the window slide down. Wow they are slow, wonder what the tem- "Maria?" Maria looked at the teacher apologetically and mumbled a small sorry. She needed to learn how to concentrate better. Maybe I should get help with a trainer.. Maria smiled lightly to the teacher as the teacher started telling her once again the stages of mitosis. It took Maria everything she had not to look at the rain outside.

Hey there, Panther! Glad to see a new charrie out of you! :3 After a staff discussion, there are a few clarifications and changes that need to be made before we can accept this wonderful bundle of happy-happy-joy-joy.

First, her power is a little strong and pretty vague. What senses are covered by her hyper awareness? Just sight and hearing, or touch/taste/smell as well? Given the nature of the ability as described (and the lack of limitations), it would tap into every sense, which consequently would detract from the ability as a whole. Either way, she cannot perceive everything, so be sure to add some limitations in there. As a side note, this would also cause more side-effects linked to each sense affected: light sensitivity (sight), wincing at high-pitched or loud noises (sound), chronic nausea (smell/taste), and being easily chafed by fabrics (touch). OCD is also a common side-effect of this power, regardless of how many senses are employed.

Second, powers do not manifest or show signs of manifesting before 11. Period. While ADHD may be a separate issue altogether, this should have been mild as a youth and heavily exacerbated by her power once it did manifest. Additionally, she should have been put on medication of her distractability and hyperactivity was so strong, even if she was in the foster care system.

With the powers out of the way, I want to give a gentle reminder on personality traits. While we love exceptionally happy people here, and snark is a wonderful negative, we do need more details. Flesh her out. Are there things that make her angry or openly hostile despite her nature, or does she just roll over and leave when people start to bother her. Does she make enemies, and why? Give us a little more than a bubbly extrovert who is otherwise a fairly cookie-cutter teen.

As a side note, her cheeriness is mentioned as a negative, but I think you meant it as her hyperactivity, considering the descriptors used. If this is not the case, my apologies for the mistake.

Finally, please brush up a little bit on adoption processes and the foster care system. It often takes months, if not years, for a couple to adopt. Once they do, adoption is also permanent unless CPS becomes involved. If you would like to put her in a group foster home as a viable alternative, that would be perfectly acceptable to her backstory as writ as well. Also remember than Mrs. & Mrs. Gonsalez could easily have fostered Maria before she manifested (according to California state law at the time), moved to Vermont when she manifested, married in 2010 when the state decided to support gay marriage, and then adopted her recently due to the natural processes and procedure of adoption. This is a suggestion though; you do not have to use this exact record as stated, since it is merely an example.
