"ACHOO!!!" Dawn stumbled as she tried her best to make her way to the cafeteria. There was absolutely no way she was going to let this head cold get the best of her. She groaned as she grabbed a tissue and blew her already Rudolf red nose. She felt horrible! This had to be the worst day of her life. Her throat itched, she felt so weak and just wanted to lay in bed. Her eyes were watery and puffy, her nose burned and itched, and her ears hurt so bad. She wanted to cry so bad..

What was upsetting her the most was this was the day that they had chocolate and so much of other awesome food that she loved in the cafeteria. She wasn't going to just stay in her room, oh no! She was going to-"ACHOO!!!" She almost fell on her butt as she had to pause and cough several times. "Ohhh...."

She stumbled in the cafeteria and sighed...she didn't even want to smell the food, that's how bad she felt. She walked towards the lunch line with her head down and sniffles here and there. Her head started to feel hot too. "Great..." She sighed and asked them for some chocolate and they smiled and gave it to her, while trying not to touch her. "Thanks...." She grabbed the food and stumbled to her table. As soon as she sat down she started to sneeze frantically and then cough, her throat irritated her. She stared at the food for a long time before picking up the fork...she hated this cold, she wanted to stab it.

Curse you Fall!!!! She almost cried as she realized how sad this situation was getting. She pushed the chocolate away while whimpering and placed her head on the table. "WHY ME?!!!!" She then sneezed and blew her nose. "I have never said this but...I HATE this..." She then bopped her head on the table and just laid there....she didn't want to move...

Now and then, Maxwell wondered why he had ever bothered to move off campus. Food was expensive these days, he didn't have a television, he was farther away from classes, and rent was becoming a little bit of a problem already. The first such problems was why Maxwell was here, in the school cafeteria; sure the food here wasn't spectacular, but to Maxwell's dulled taste buds most food tasted the same.

Not initially intended to talk to anyone really, Maxwell can collected his tray of food and was making plans to go to the far end of the farthest away table. His plans were annoyingly changed when his rather hidden sense of responsibility kicked in thanks to a sneeze. Calling it a sneeze wasn't doing it justice though - a cannon might have felt jealous. It came from the girl in line a few people in front of him, Dawn Ramona. After he had paid, he followed her.

"Hey, uh, you mind if...?" Maxwell asked Dawn as he motioned to a spot on the table across to her. He lifted a leg up and over regardless of her answer. The fire breather's aroma of smoke, both cigarette and natural from his lungs, probably didn't help her cold much but unfortunately Maxwell was so used to it that he often forgot. His cough got the better of him again as he sat down.

*COUGH COUGH COUGH*

"Sorry..." He said, after lowering his fist from his mouth. Dawn was face-down on the table, but he had seen that the poor girl's nose match her hair color. He reached into his coat and took out one of the many odds and ends he usually carried with him.

"Here, I don't know how your throat is, but these might help." Maxwell offered her an opened roll of throat lozenges. "I got some stuff that can help clear our your nose too... I know, weird, but it's Hammel isn't it?" Maxwell gave her a soft smile that matched his tone of voice.

Dawn was so wrapped up in her own pity that she didn't know anyone was near her. She coughed before slowly lifting up her head and stare at...whoever it was. She just nodded her head, although he was already sitting down. She usually would have asked why he sat before asking but she didn't care about anything at the moment. She blinked her watery eyes and watched as he started coughing. She smiled a little as she realized he may be sick too, she didn't want to be the only one.

"It's fine...coughing is good for you.." She then slowly went back to a straight sitting position and coughed even more. Something smelled of smoke, which usually didn't bother her. After that she just watched him in confusion for a while. Why is a stranger helping and being nice to someone he doesn't know? Part of her went sarcastic and said that it's called morals while the other part thought nothing in particular. She sighed and watched as he gave something to her that looked like cough drops to her. She would not care less what they were. "Thanks.-ACHOO!" She sighed and rolled her eyes at this annoyance.

"Sorry not rollin' my eyes at you. I am rollin' my eyes at this cold. I love chocolate and I can't even eat it..." She almost wanted to know if he wanted it. He listened to her once again to hear something about him being able to clear her nose. She sniffled and shrugged her shoulders in all nonchalance before nodding her head. "What?"

Maxwell winced as Dawn sneezed. He felt rather sorry for the poor young girl. She looked miserable. After awhile she hadn't taken the cough drops from him, so Maxwell simply set them down on top of her chocolate bar.

"No, it's alright, I can handle a bit of eye roll anyway." Maxwell smiled softly at her, in an effort to cheer her up a little. "Although no, coughing isn't always good for you. Luckily mine isn't bad for me. Part of my powers. It's why I carry this too..." 

Reaching into his coat pocket again, the boy with the smokey lungs took out a small bottle of nasal spray. It was labeled Sinusooth and boasted to be "natural" or whatever the heck that meant. He set the bottle in front of her as well, but added, "I haven't used it in awhile, but you uh... might want to wipe it off first, just in case."

Jeez Maxwell, good going, that was great, she's sure to want to use that bottle that's been stuck up your nose. Dumbass. 

Maxwell turned his head away slightly and scowled at what he viewed as his own idiocy. When Dawn asked more about it, he sighed slightly, and again donned his not-entirely false soft smile. It was only for her own good anyway.

"Oh, um, I'm a fire breather... but I'm not exactly immune to my own power. If I don't make sure my respiratory system isn't taken care of properly, bad things can happen." 

Sure, taken care of properly. That's why you smoke half a pack a day, isn't it? 

"Anyway, it should help with that sneeze of yours. It does mine, and trust me, my sneezes can get vicious. Last time I had a cold like yours, I sort of set the library on fire..."

Maxwell trailed off. He was being far, far more open than he ever would have been normally. Why was that? Well, strangely, he'd been feeling a lot more considerate and open the last few days. It was as if Hammel had a wave of misfortune crashing through it like a bad luck flooding, and to compensate the kind but usually indifferent Maxwell's personality was compensating. That, and he always had a fondness for red-haired girls. They reminded him of when he was young...

Dawn sighed and felt like falling asleep. Why did she of all people have to get sick today? Why couldn't those two annoying gestalt twins get sick? She could see it now, taking pictures of them and sending it to everyone...hehehe...She got out of her day dream and nodded while glancing at the nasal spray from time to time...

I don't want to use that...I want to go to sleep...She glanced at her chocolate while pouting as she saw the...whatever-he-said on them. She then grabbed a napkin and wiped the nasal thingy. "Thanks...you're...nice?" She was horrible at conversation at the moment...great.

She sighed and looked annoyingly at the nasal spray stuff before shutting her eyes and shivering. "It's not because you used it by the way, it's the-Cough!- though of something coming up...my...ACHOO!.......nose..." She then looked at the sky. Okay God and Karma...is this because I don't really have a care about what happens to people? With that little..whatever.. she looked at the nasal spray and used it quickly, hoping she would forget she used it. Then, out of strange respect for the thing, she wiped it with another tissue. "There..." She then gave it back to his side of the table and glared at the medicine on her chocolate.

She was about to say how she didn't want it when she heard what he said about what he did when he got sick. "....Hahahahahahaha!!! Awesome!!" That little shout didn't help her throat any and she soon found herself coughing like mad...she looked back at the medicine stuff after a while and put one in her mouth with a sulk.

Maxwell could tell she wasn't a fan of the nasal spray, and didn't blame her. The very words themselves, nasal spray, were extremely unsettling and full of cacophony. He only started using the stuff regularly about two years ago after he'd almost asphyxiated himself during a training session gone wrong. Like he told Dawn, he wasn't immune to choking on his own smoke.

Quickly, but as casually as he could, Maxwell swiped up the bottle of nasal spray and placed it back in his pocket while Dawn laughed at his story. He just shook his head and started to eat his food. He barely had bothered to pay attention what was given to him. Thanks to Maxwell's powers, almost everything tasted the same. Judging by the textures and smells though, he'd been given a taco salad.

Not nearly spicy enough.

After he swallowed, he shrugged at the now sulking Dawn. "At the time, it wasn't awesome. Scary, even, but yeah, looking back at it... it was pretty damn funny." He grinned. "What do you do again? Something about healing, right?" It was mostly a shot in the dark, and if Maxwell came anywhere close he'd be rather surprised with himself.

Dawn glared at the other thing on her chocolate, then she glared at the chocolate. She wouldn't be able to eat any of that unfortunately, her throat was killing her. She looked at him as she sniffed, he said something but she really wasn't paying attention. She thought about what he said and then finally understood..right. "Cell regeneration, if it can be called that!" She glared at her skin as she clawed at it. Her skin became irritated but then it healed as if she never scratched herself. " It doesn't work on sicknesses...why?" She knew he wouldn't be able to answer that but it was worth a shot.

"How did you find out about your gift?...Wait did you tell me that already?" Why was it that every time she got sick she would forget everything, and become very cranky..why?
