Awkward Teenage Emotions (Rain)

Jake and John were plopped on the couch in the student lounge waiting for Rain to get out of class. It wasn't so much that they were stalking her. Sure, they had kinda sorta memorized her schedule. But that was because they just wanted the chance to be able to say hey. And since they didn't live on campus, their chances were limited. So it wasn't creepy, right?

Since meeting at the elementary school playground on that rainy day, the twins had continued to come up with excuse to just 'hang out'. And were very careful to never call it a date. Which had been a little tricky at the Halloween Dance. It's just that they worried about the whole twin thing. It was hard enough at the dance deciding who got to dance with her when and if one of the other should have asked another girl to come along. The whole thing was just so confusing...and full of awkward giggles and blushing.

One of these days they'd sit down with Gordon and figure it out. But so far they hadn't gotten up the courage to ask him.

"Ninja Warrior on?"Jake asked.

"Which version?"John asked, flipping though the channels.

"Does it matter?"

"Of course it does. The American one is so lame."

"You're just jealous you can't get in it."

"Well neither can you, Bozo." And with that Jake leaped across the couch tackling his brother and starting one of their many brother wrestling matches. Which is where Rain would find them, rolling around on the floor in front of the TV.

Winter, how she grew to dislike it… Well, more like she dislike the cold. She loved snow, she didn’t like how the cold killed plants though. Ever since she had gotten her powers she was never able to go outside without freezing her bum off. Other people got cold during winter yes, but she was twice as sensitive to the cold as anyone else. She would start to freeze if she walked into a restaurant, she loved nature yes, but it was also her enemy at times. Least to say, that during the winter she tried to hibernate as much as she could, and stay indoors.

However, recently she tried to head to the student lounge every day after her classes were over. Why? Because she realized that two certain people would be hanging out in the student lounge at that time. Even after a few weeks the small girl never realized why that was such a coincidence. Rain enjoyed spending time with the Bishop twins very much. She loved the dance and had a great time. Even though she had worried that the one twin that wasn’t dancing with her had felt left out… She didn’t want either to feel left out… If they had invited another girl, she wouldn’t have objected but she would have got insecure… Would it have meant that she wasn’t enough for both of them? People said that she was a very loving person, but was she that loving? And would it have meant that one of them didn’t like her? Did either of them like her in that way anyways?


Rain really didn’t know, but she did know that if they asked her to chose between the two she wouldn’t be able to. Not just because they are the same person… But because she liked both of them, equally, and would never be able to decide… She also wouldn’t want to hurt the others feelings.

The sight that the girl saw when she walked into the student lounge made her eyes widen, and her head tilt to the side like a very curious kitten. Yet, it put a warm smile on her face, and it made her stomach clench in all the sweet fluffy feelings. She really wasn’t sure if she should say something, or if she should just let them roll around. Deciding on doing both, carefully walking to the couch to flop onto it without a sound, taking a moment to wonder if they were wrestling because it was what brothers do, or if it was because they were actually mad at each other. “You two remind me of ferrets.”

John and Jake didn't share Rain's feelings toward winter. Although they did hate to be stuck inside so much, they also looked forward to the holidays and the snow. Holidays because it was a crazy, special, and enjoyable time with their huge family. And snow because it provided a whole new set of stunts and adventures.

The boys were so busy wrestling each other that they missed Rain walking in and plopping down on the couch. So when she spoke, the first sprang apart from each other in surprise and then jumped to their feet when they saw who it was.

"Rain!" "Rain!" they said in unison. Both of them had bits of red creeping into their cheeks."Uh...when did you?..." "We were just..."

"Ferrets? Awesome!" "Ferrets? Awesome!" the twins continued, now wearing identical grins.

They each plopped down on the couch next to her, one on each side. John reached out to grab the remote and flip off the TV. While Jake, who'd left a tad more space between him and Rain than his brother had, ran a hand in his hair hoping it didn't look like a complete mess after the wrestling match.

"So how was class? John asked.

The girl used to enjoy winter; she loved the holiday part of it, thanksgiving, and Christmas. The cold seemed to always change her mood though, just like rainstorms did, and anything else that effected nature. In a way to made her feel like she was one with it.

Rain giggled as the boys stopped wrestling and got to their feet. “Oh! You shouldn’t have stopped on my account!” She smiled at both of them, “I was quite enjoying watching you guys play around.” At least that’s what she hoped they had been doing. “I’ve only been here for about a minute.” She nodded, “Cute, fluffy, mischievous, and hyper!” She put up one finger for each trait. She hadn’t actually realized she said cute… “But Bunnies are the best!” looking at the roof she wondered just how honest that statement was. “Though I guess I’m kind of Biased.” She did own one after all.

She chuckled as both of them sat next to her. “Oh, you didn’t need to turn off the tv just because of me.” She blinked at the television, she felt kind of bad, especially if they had been watching something, well before they had started wrestling. She looked at Jake, then at John, or was it John, then Jake? Either way she was now looking at the one who asked her the question. She was still trying to figure out which one would be John, and which was Jake. “Okay I guess. I mean it was class. How was your guys classes?”

The boys smiled at her giggle. It had become a pattern for them to try to make her laugh as much as possible. Not only because that was their default way to interact with people, but mostly because they loved the sound of her laughter. It was...cute. But they didn't think they should say that to her.

On the other hand, she had just called them cute! The boys made eye contact for a second over that adjective and tried not to succumb to the nervous giggles in their throats. They weren't sure how to proceed for a few moments. Not sure if they should ask her to repeat that to be sure she meant it. Or if they should say something about they thought she was cute too.

They really needed to sit down with Gordon or someone about all this. Why the heck was there not a class in this school about how to talk to girls? There seemed to be one on just about every other subject. Much less important ones, like math could easily be replaced.

"Well...yeah...Bunnies are cute...uh...cool too"John stammered, a little upset with the way his voice cracked on the word cute.

"You have a bunny, right?" Jake asked, hoping to get the conversation back on track of something comfortable.

The twins wouldn't have minded if they knew about Rain's trouble telling them apart. In fact, even though they were getting older, they often tried to confuse people about that topic. And would still sometimes try to switch places, although that was getting much harder now that they didn't like to be apart from one another. Mostly they just tried to annoy their siblings with it. Rain wasn't someone they wanted to annoy, certainly, but they wouldn't mind teasing her a little with it when they got more comfortable around her. If that ever happened.

"Class was class.""Class was class."

"This is much better."John added, without thinking. Getting a look from his brother as he did so. "I mean...of course it's more fun to hang with you than go to class. You know that right?" He's voice was speeding up as he continued. Jake, feeling his own and his twins nervousness started nodding along. "I mean there's a lot of stuff better than class...but we'd pick hanging out with you over most of it...that's a compliment. So yeah..." He trailed off at the end, glancing back and forth between Jake and Rain, seeking comfort from his brother and hoping Rain wasn't thinking he'd said the wrong thing.

There was a sex ed class? Though that really didn’t focus on the simpler aspect of anything. It was weird that with gestalts the talking, dating, and just being in a relationship was the easier parts of the matter…

Rain smiled at John, and nodded, she thought it was a bit weird that his voice went funny at the word ‘cute’. Then Jake asked if she had a bunny, and she grinned at him, “Yes! I do you, he’s very cute. His name is Ribbon.” She tended to call him ‘bonbon’ sometimes. “You should come by my dorm room to meet him!” Subtly asking them to come over to her room, check! If only it would work and they said they would like to.

Sometimes she didn’t actually have trouble telling them apart, she got the part where John seemed to be a bit more outgoing and talkative than Jake. It made her sad, because she wanted to talk to him as much as she talked to John.. Once John started to talk, and ramble a bit, she smile, blushing and smiling, she was able to figure out that this one was John. She looked at her hands, blushing even more as he said it was a compliment. She rubbed that back of her head, then looked at Jake, wondering if he really did feel the same way. “You…You really think I’m that fun to hang out with?” She looked at John, then at Jake, then back at her hands and smiled a little. “I Think you guys are more fun too. I would totally pick hanging out with you over most of it too.”

Well there wasn't really a sex ed class per say...but there was The Talk, something which the twins had avoided. Even though they were a little curious, it wasn't something they felt comfortable learning about or discussing with the rest of the school.

"That'd be awesome!" "That'd be awesome!" The boys both said, well kinda shouted. And then started to blush simultaneously. They didn't want Rain to think they were itching to get her back to her dorm room or anything. Not that they would mind that. But really most of the excitement had come from the idea of meeting a cute fluffy bunny. Especially Rain's cute fluffy bunny.

"If you'd want...and all."John added, hoping that would fix it. Seriously, why were girls so hard to talk to. It was like everything they said had two meanings and they weren't sure if they meant one or both or what they wanted her to think they meant.

Between the two brothers, John was always the more outspoken one. Of course, he did tend to ramble a lot. Especially when he was in a situation that made him nervous. Like talking to a cute girl. Still they couldn't help but grin and relax a little at the thought that she thought they were fun. If only they had the guts to just come out and ask her what she really thought of them. But surely she thought this whole twin thing was too weird. Or she just wanted to be friends. They didn't want to risk crushing their hopes by asking. At least, not yet.

"Yeah, you're great."Yeah, you're great." Of course, she wasn't just great to hang out with. She was just great period. Even if it was nerve racking to talk to her, they'd both rather be talking to her than not talking to her.

"You're like the greatest..." "...cutes-...I mean coolest girl here..." So there, they'd said it. Well sort of. They both hoped she'd understand that she was special to them. More special than just looking for a way to fill the boredom between classes.

"So...got any plans for the holidays?" Jake asked, as usual looking for a safer subject to discuss.

They were kind of right, but couldn’t they talk to Sean in his office about it? They probably weren’t the only gestalts wondering about this either. But maybe they were, she really didn’t know about it. Even though she had two sets of gestalts in her family, she really wasn’t close to either of them. So she never talked to them about it.

Smiling at both of them, because they were the sweetest things ever. “We can go now if you want to?” She really didn’t know what else to say, other than that. She didn’t think it was a big deal for them to come over to see Ribbon, and she figured it was something to do. Not that sitting here and just talking to them wasn’t great, it was. She just wasn’t sure if they were bored or not. She knew how hyper active the twins were. They always had to be doing something, and she kind of liked that about them. It made things entertaining. She nodded, “Of course I want to! Do you guys have any pets?”

Rain didn’t think anything of their excitement, nor did her question have two meanings. She wanted them to meet her rabbit, and didn’t mind them being in her dorm, and didn’t mean anything more, or less about the question that was posed to them. Sometimes it seemed like the other person just made it a bigger deal than it was just because they over thought it. Rain was too innocent for her to think what she had said was anything more or less than it was, and probably wouldn’t over think it if they had posed the same question to her. It just wasn’t how she worked. Most of the time she was straight forward, she didn’t beat around the bush. Though she would put off saying something about something if she could, and wanted to, like her feelings for the twins.

She blushed at the twins overwhelming, and nonstop compliments, her cheeks were going to hurt from the blushing and smiling. She hoped her darker, more tanned skin would not make her blushes stand out. “I think you two are the greatest, and cutest guys ever too.” Yes she caught onto the ‘cutest’, she thought it was cute.

She shrugged, “Not really, probably going to do something with my brother and cousins on Christmas morning. Then I think we are going to do our own things.” She smiled, “What about you?”

"Right now?" "Right now?" The twins asked, their voices and odd mixture of excitement and nervousness. The excitement because well a bunny was awesome. And Rain's bunny would be even more awesome they were sure. The nervousness mostly because they couldn't help but worry about what it meant to have a girl take you back to her room. They were sure it was something their older siblings said always led to something.

Speaking of siblings, the brothers both looked around the area quickly, wondering if any of the other Bishops were in the area. Talking to a cute girl was stressful enough without a sibling looking over their shoulders. Maybe it would be best to have a more private place to have a conversation.

"Yeah, we'd love to meet your bunny," John said, standing up.

"Lead the way." Jake added, also standing. The brothers both offered a hand to Rain, blushing awkwardly when they realized that they both were. But neither wanted to be the one to let the other help her.

The twins blushing when into overload at the cutest comment. "Really?" John asked, his voice cracking a bit from anticipation. They both shuffled their feet and grinned slightly.

They had both been thinking of inviting Rain over for Christmas dinner at their house. And now seemed the perfect moment. They made eye contact for a second, confirming that it was. "Well if you can, you should come over to our house for dinner," John said.

"It'd be awesome. It's always a little crazy, but it would be awesome to have you there with us," Jake added.

“Sure! Why not?” She didn’t mind having the boys in her room. She oddly trusted them, maybe it was because they seemed as sweet and innocent as herself, well that or she was just overly trusting of people. Maybe it was the latter? She really didn’t know, but it didn’t matter because she really liked the twins, and did trust them. For Rain it meant what she said it meant. If she had any other intentions (which she didn’t) other than them meeting Ribbon she would say so. She wasn’t the type of girl to beat around the bush. Rain clapped in excitement, “I think Ribbon would like you two.”


Rain blushed a little at both the boys holding out a hand to help her up. She made sure she grabbed her bag, before grabbing both of their hands with a smile to stand up. She headed for the door, the door to the cold, which she knew she would just start to shiver when she walked out, she was so sensitive to the cold since she manifested.

Rain blushed more, and nodded. “Yeeeaaah.” They were the cutest boys in the school in Rain’s opinion.


Biting her bottom lip, she wondered if them inviting her over for dinner, Christmas dinner was supposed to mean something more than maybe they were letting on? The more she thought about it, the more she doubted it, she didn’t think anyone at the school saw her as more than a friend. “I would love to go! Are you sure I wouldn’t be a bother though? I wouldn’t want to intrude… Should I bring anything? Like food, or drinks, or something?” Would she have to make a present for everyone in their Family?

The twins grinned at Rain's reply, although they were both cautious (maybe a little over cautious) about talking to a girl, they were both learning that Rain wasn't one to use hidden meanings. And it was a quality they high appreciated in her. That and her smiled. And her laugh.

"I'm sure we'll like Ribbon too!" John said. As Jake nodded along.

The brothers beamed at each other and then at Rain as she grabbed their hands. It wasn't often that they felt like someone outside of their family got them the way she did.

"Awesome!""Awesome!" they shouted in unison.

"It'd be fine. Seriously, it's like a holiday tradition to invite all your friend and stuff over for dinner. I think our parents just assume they'll be cooking enough to feed an army every year," John explained. And really the boys hadn't meant anything more by inviting her. Sure they'd love to think how could it would be to invite Rain over and introduce her as their girlfriend one day. But right now...well they weren't there quite yet. "Just bring your cute little self."

And both the brothers' faces filled with renewed redness at John's sentence revealing exactly what they were thinking.The conversation was turning into quite the blushing contest as the brothers walked with Rain towards the door. The couldn't believe how lucky they were to be hanging out with the coolest and cutest girl in school. Or that she was willing to come over for Christmas. "But really," Jake added. "Show up anytime Christmas day, and they'll be plenty of food and everything."
