Phoenix’s mood and brightened considerably ever since Oriel had gotten back from the hospital. Granted, the boy was still weak and on medication, but Phen was so happy to have him back and in his arms as long as he wanted that he was practically brimming with joy. It was getting later in the evening, though, and Oriel had passed out not too long ago; Phoenix had held him and watched him sleep for a while before he decided to get up and actually take care of himself like Junpei had scolded him to.
On the way to the cafeteria, he passed by the student lounge, which was pretty quiet at the moment. He peered inside curiously, thinking maybe he could get some time by himself to let Oriel rest when a familiar face caught his attention. He knew of Lux, of course. Passed her by, heard about her from Oriel. The boy seemed very attached to her, which Phoenix, if he was honest with himself, had been jealous about at first. That, along with his own shyness and social avoidance, had kept him from getting to know her. But now, seeing her by herself and seeming so innocent and harmless, he felt the sudden desire to actually, finally meet her.
An idea sprang to mind, and, hoping she hadn’t seen him yet, Phen darted back up to the dorms, snagging a couple of danishes from the stock he had been keeping for Oriel, and he came back to the lounge, panting lightly. Maybe it was his giddiness that Oriel was back, or something else, but he was feeling like doing something out of his normal behavior.
He went in, and sat down beside Lux, feeling his cheeks flush as he shyly offered one of the danishes to her. “Um, mind if I sit here?” he asked, unsure of the best way to greet the girl. Did she know who he was? Assuming she gave the affirmative, he settled back against his seat and smiled nervously. “I-I don’t know if you know or not, but I’m Phoenix. I’m Oriel’s, uh…” He rubbed the back of his head; he still was getting used to using the word ‘boyfriend’, especially with someone he didn’t know, so ended up trailing off awkwardly. “How… Are you?” he mumbled.
Socializing was not his strong suit.
