Winter Wonderland (Kadence)

Nick and Kadi had been dating for a while now, and they had even taken the step to move in together. Yet, Nick felt as if that wasn't quite enough. He wanted to do something nice, something romantic for her. He wanted her to feel loved, and to show her how much she meant to him. Christmas was approaching and the snow gave him the perfect idea for what to surprise her with. And hopefully she'd love it. After everything, she really deserved a night that was meant just for her. A night where she would be treated like a princess.

''Keep your eyes closed.'', Nick whispered with a smile as he lead her through the forest, making sure she didn't trip on any branches or rocks. He wanted this night to be special, and he could only do that by making sure she didn't peek, so therefore, he kept his eyes on her beautiful face at all times. ''Almost there.'', he whispered again and tugged her body closer to his. When they finally reached the clearing by the lake, he let go of her arms and nodded.

''Okay. You can open your eyes.'', he then said and nudged her forward.

In front of her, the trees where lit up with shimmering lights as far as their eyes could see. The lights lead a passage further down the path and stopped next to something that appeared as a small tent. Taking her hand in his, Nick nodded towards the cozy little tent and smiled. ''How does being my winter princess for a night sound?''

It almost took his breath away, the way she looked in the light. She looked so insanely beautiful, and before his beautiful girlfriend could take a step towards their romantic hideout, he moved in close, flicked her chin up with his index finger, looked her deep into her eyes and kissed her as softly and as tenderly as he could.

Kadence was completely confused as to what Nicholas had in store for them. He was so secretive about it that she was a bit nervous. Nathan told her that it was probably Nick inviting her into an orgy or something, but she knew Nate was just being a butt. The two of them were really quite terrible to each other, but she liked their little family. Her parents were dying to officially meet the boyfriend and his parents still had yet to meet her. She was reluctant for that meeting though, insanely so.

Banishing the thought from her mind, she focused on getting ready for this surprise date that Nick was taking her on. She wondered what it would be. A cozy night by a fireplace watching movies or maybe going to the movies. Something simple is what she expected, nothing crazy, but you could never tell with Nicholas Darwin. Those Darwin boys were a crazy pair.

Kadi allowed herself to be dragged through the outdoors by her boyfriend, not afraid of being led to her impending doom, just worried that she'd fall on her face. Luckily he was pretty quick and would probably catch her, but still. They finally stopped and he granted her the ability to open her eyes before dropping her hands and nudging her forward. She was completely awestruck. It was beautiful, quiet and at the same place that they'd ran into each other months ago. It kind of held some significance to her and for him to set all of this up, she simply couldn't believe it.

Kadence turned back towards him just as he got closer to her and kissed her softly. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back enthusiastically before pulling back. "Have I told you lately that you might be the best boyfriend ever?" She smiled wider, her tongue pressing to the back of her teeth like it always did when she smiled her trademark smile.

Her reaction said it all; He had succeeded. Nothing made him happier than to watch her face shine up in a truthful smile. Nothing could ever make him happier. The way she looked at him, the way she smiled and the way she spoke, it was all a part of creating the jittery almost electric feeling in the pit of his stomach whenever he saw her. He loved her, and there was absolutely nothing that could ever change that.

His love was limitless, endless and everlasting. Even with as little experience as he had with relationships, he knew. Kadence McAvoy was the only woman he would ever love, and the woman he was going to marry some day. They were going to have an entire football team of kids, a minibus, a dog and a large house with a big yard... Okay, so maybe he was getting ahead of himself and being all gooey and romantic, but at least it was the truth.

Nick's hands went to Kadi's cheeks as she pulled back from his kiss. ''Have I told you lately that you're the most beautiful woman alive?'', he said and returned the wide smile. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and held her close. ''Now then...''

And just like he had done so many months ago in this exact location; He lifted her up in his arms and swung her around. ''How does a refreshing bath sound to you, Miss. McAvoy?''

Whatever it was that made her lucky enough to run into Nick at the lake that day, she wasn't sure, but it had turned out to be one of the best days she'd ever had. And though she wasn't really into the whole supernatural business, she didn't doubt that it was her brother that had been the force that pushed them into each other that day. Hayden was watching over her and making sure that she was getting the best. He would be so happy if he saw her with Nick now, she knew it.

The thought caused her smile to warm even more and she just looked up at her boyfriend that she loved so much. He was so beautiful with his gorgeous smile and big brown eyes. Those were two things that she hoped their children got from him. His smile and his eyes because they were too perfect to pass up. She could only imagine a little boy that looked just like his daddy, big brown eyes with dark lashes and the most adorable smile. The idea of it just made her want to cry with happiness. She couldn't wait to have that life with him. Kadence didn't want anyone else, not ever.

His hands cupped her cheeks and she looked up at him, "I love you, Nicky," She whispered with a smile. Any louder and it would have ruined the moment. His voice made it so much better though. All deep and silky, gosh she was melting in his hands and he didn't even realize it. It was probably for the best that he had his arm around her otherwise she'd slip right through his fingers.

"A bath? Outside? Are you crazy, Nick?" She asked through narrowed eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

''I love you too.'' And he did, with everything he had.

He started walking towards the tent with Kadi still in his arms. ''Mmm... Maybe I am.'', he said with a chuckle. ''But that's just one of the many reasons for why you love me, babe.'' He wasn't dumb enough to throw her into the cold water, and he had no plans to ever do something as suicidal. Instead, he gently put her down on the carpet inside the small hut of a tent he had put together. ''Besides, we both know you're just dying to rip my clothes off!''

Nick sat down next to her and brushed her hair behind her ear and shook his head. ''I'm so lucky for having you.'', he whispered softly and let his hand drop to the ground.

Kadence smiled wide and brushed her fingers across his cheek. Gosh that face, he was one of the most attractive men she had ever seen and she was glad that he was all hers. She had a problem with sharing, and it was nice that she very rarely had to share him with anyone other than his brother. Even then it was more like Nick was sharing with Nate. She was pretty sure the younger Darwin had a crush on her, but she kind of loved it.

"Many reasons huh? What if I only have a few?" She challenged with a smirk. Of course there were more reasons than she could count, but that being said, she still liked picking on him. Just as he constantly picked on her. "And that may be true, but it is way too cold outside for that, Nicky. I'm not some heater here, I'm too tiny to hold much heat at all," She said with a pout. How on earth did he plan that?

Sitting there beside him, she smiled at the very casual touching they had. His hand in her hair, her hand on his arm. It was so comfortable, so easy to just be with him. There was no strain, no stress, just an uncontrollable happiness. "I'm pretty lucky, too. So why the sudden urge for all this?" She asked with a tilt of her head.

It was kind of ironic and a little bit funny how they had ended up where they were now. Sure, they had been crushing on each other back when they went to Hammel, but that day like five months ago (?) had taken them both with surprise. They had randomly met up at the lake, started talking and the entire day had ended up with the falling all over again. Just like that, his entire world had been turned upside down and rolled about. In the flash of an eye, he had completely turned from being Vermont's bachelor to a loyal lapdog. And he loved it. Completely and utterly loved it.

Nick ran his hand through her blonde hair and chuckled. ''A few is okay too.'', he smiled at her teasing. ''As long as there are some.'' He couldn't believe how lucky he had been to shoot such a golden bird. For one who had been that scared of committing, she surely had done a great job making him feel safe and comfortable. ''You sure?'', he said slowly and put his ice cold fingers at the rim of her sweater, barely touching her soft, warm skin. ''Could have fooled me.'' He kissed the top of her head again and shook his head. Man, he was too lucky for his own good.

''Because you deserve a night like this.'', he said and rested his cheek against her head. ''And I wanted to do something nice, y'know?'' That and he loved to see her smile and know that she was happy. ''I love you, blondie.''

Kadence would never have believed it if five months ago she'd been told that the same month she would randomly run into one of her high school friends that she absolutely adored back then and she would also have a serious relationship with him now. Before he came back into her life, she was sure she was going nowhere. She had a support system, sure, but it was never anything that made her feel stable and safe. There was always that fear of getting pulled back in by a guy like Mason and the thought of it terrified her. She was lucky she'd been able to fall back into old habits with Nick because if it was anyone else, she probably would not have been quite so comfortable around him.

But it was Nick, her Nicky that she'd loved all throughout high school even if she had been dating Mason. It never changed the fact that she was crushing on Nick. Even Mace had realized it at one point, shortly after Nathan came to Hammel. The way she had been instantly drawn to the young Darwin and offered him help when she could, Mason found that she was doing it to stay a part of the Darwin family even if it wasn't with Nick. She'd received hell when her 'boyfriend' found out. A good verbal beating that sent her clinging to him and paying no attention the young Darwin anymore. The more she thought about it, the more sickening it was.

His fingertips brushed her skin and she shivered, "Nicky, you're freezingggg. You're supposed to be my human spaceheater, baby." She pouted and curled up closer to him, if not to be warmed by him, to share her warmth that she didn't think she had. Kadi nuzzled his cheek with her pink nose and then rested her cheek back on his shoulder. She couldn't think of a better way to spend her night.

Kadence took his free hand and squeezed it between her own, "You're seriously the best boyfriend I could ever ask for. I don't think you realize that." She smiled and kissed the top of his shoulder, "And I love you....more." With that she smirked and giggled.

Mason. Nick didn't even know where to start when it came to that guy. Kadi didn't have to tell him much to get the heater going. After all, Mason had been a real ass even during high school, and Nick would gladly tell him where to shove it once more. He hadn't told Kadi about what really happened, and he wasn't sure it was a wound he ought to rip up in again. Mason had treated Nick's princess like dirt, and in the moment he told him off, it felt right to do what he did. Now though, now he wasn't so sure how she'd react if she ever found out. He wasn't scared to tell her, he was scared of digging into the past and making her feel bad. He liked her happy, and he wanted to keep her happy.

Nick had to admit that he loved how close his brother and Kadi was. Even if Nate obviously hit on her, he didn't mind it all that much. Nate would never do anything to harm either of them, and he trusted Kadence completely. It made him happy to see them so close though, after all, Kadi needed it. Nick didn't mind sharing his baby brother as long as it made her happy. That was the most important thing in his life, and he couldn't say it enough.

''Well, though luck, beautiful. You're the one warming me up!'', he said playfully, but removed his hand from her skin. He tugged her closer and wrapped his arms around her body. He loved the feeling of having her close, the smell of her skin and the way her body felt in his arms. It was like falling in love all over again.

''Well, I try.'', he said with a smirk and closed his eyes. ''I love you the most...Always one more.''

After so many months of not thinking about Mason, she found that it was a relief. It was a relief to not be worrying constantly about if she was going to be verbally abused the way she had been when she was with him. Nick had never said anything degrading or hurtful to her the way that her ex had, not even back before they had dated. He was constantly boosting her self-confidence and the way she saw herself and in the end, she had to say it definitely helped. She didn't feel the need to go to a psychiatrist anymore to talk about how lowly she thought of herself because she no longer felt so insignificant. Even Nathan made her feel better. Nick was sent straight from Heaven and she absolutely loved how he made her feel.

He tugged her closer and she sighed in content at the warmth that spread out from the rest of his body. Now if only his hands had that! She played with his fingers on one of his hands and leaned her head back to look up at him, "Can you believe it's been months since we ran into each other? I still can't even believe how all of that played out. A simple bump in and poof, the love of my life is finally right in front of me." She looked back down a little embarrassed by her words, but it was the truth. He was everything she could ask for and he gave her so much more than she deserved.

"Bull, I've loved you since we were in high school, so therefore I totally win, right?" She asked looking up at him with a bat of her eyelashes. Kadence giggled and poked his side to get a rise from him.
