Kai possesses a pair of large, bird-like wings that allow him to fly. While he prefers to have them out for comfort, he is able to retract them in order to go out in public, but it causes him back discomfort and gives him the appearance of a rigidly straight posture. He is able to maintain flight for about a half-hour at a time, and can carry weights up to 30 lbs. along with him. He suffers from muscular fatigue and soreness just like anyone else would feel after working their body for similar lengths of time. Side-effects include fatigue, hunger, and early-onset osteoporosis.

General Appearance:
Kai is, simply speaking, a pretty decent guy to look at. With strong, angular features, tawny, unmarred skin, and deep almond eyes that seem to have a bit of a mischievous spark behind them, he's pretty confident in his appearance. His black hair his kept neat and tidy most of the time, though on occasion he will go a day or two without doing anything with it. He also usually keeps a thin layer of scruff along his jaw and upper lip, which he almost obsessively trims to keep from getting too out of control.
He stands at a lean, tall 6'1", weighing in at about 165 lbs. Kai is very conscious of keeping his body toned and fit, and works out on a regular basis in the gym and teaching yoga to keep his muscles nice and defined. He's long-legged and broad-shouldered, nicely balanced with a tapering waist.
Kai is very picky about his attire, and makes sure to always dress appropriately for all occasions. He prefers dark and sophisticated over bright and bold, and keeps his closet very stocked with the season's latest styles. When dressed casually, he can be found in a pair of nice, high-brand jeans and a silky button-down. The gym tends to be the only place he really dresses down. He also wears reading glasses while he works, as well as at least one piece of expensive-looking jewelry at all times.
His wings, when out, are a dark umber color, with streaks of black and lighter beige. They're quite large and cumbersome, but can be tucked up somewhat neatly against his back.
Personality:
Kai likes to appear calm and in-control in all situations. While he can be mellow and polite when he needs to be (especially with his elders), he has a very cocky exterior that hides a rather insecure nature. He's a perfectionist at heart, driven by a desire to prove to his family that he can be successful. He comes from a very wealthy background, and thus thinks that in order to be happy, he needs to find his own way to make it to the top.
His passion lies in the sciences, especially chemistry, though that fascination for 'chemistry' also involves kind between people. He avidly studies how people act and react, and tends to manipulate his own personality depending on who he's talking to and the response he wants to get. This has proved useful to his own more carnal desires, which he has no qualms about using to his advantage, though he makes sure to never push anyone beyond what they're comfortable with. Deeper down, he is actually rather soft and just wants to be close to people, but his upbringing and recent events in his personal life have given him a shield that he tends not to let most people through.
He's also easily jealous, though he would never admit it. He doesn't like seeing people he is close to (physically or, on a rare occasion, emotionally) with other people, and has a habit of making them choose or leaving them. It's a problem he's working on, so far with little success.
When he's not studying, working at his job at the mall, or teaching yoga part-time, he can be found cooking or hiking, both hobbies of his that he tends to do on his own. He also enjoys watching documentaries, though it's not something he tends to advertise. Kai doesn't attend parties on a very regular basis, but when he does, he gets very into it, almost becoming a different person when he allows himself to relax and let loose.

Any Other Important People: NoneHistoryKai was born in raised in the town of Dover, Delaware, to two quite wealthy parents who, as they constantly told him while he was growing up, had worked very, very hard to be where they were. They expected a lot of him growing up, teaching him manners, demanding good grades in school, always respect the elders. He developed a knack for putting on acts depending on who he was with at a young age, realizing he could get the most benefits out of doing so. He didn't mean anything necessarily bad by them - he was only a child that wished to make his parents proud.
When he was five, his sister, Seraphine, was born - bright and cherished as her namesake. While Kai was equally as loved, he sometimes saw his younger sibling as a rival growing up, both of them trying to prove which of them would be more successful and delight their parents.
He was always fairly popular in school, sticking with the 'good' crowd and beloved by his teachers. Kai expected his life to be full of success and riches at the tips of his fingers for as long as he lived, and he was content.
Only his father, Jacob, was a meta - gifted with avian communication. His family line had a history of metas, so it wasn't a surprise that Kai manifested himself.
When he was twelve. he was out hiking with his family and family friends in the woods when his back started itching terribly. He started lagging behind, his breath growing heavy as alarm set in as the itching slowly turned to pain. His mother and sister stayed behind in concern, even suggesting they turn back when it happened. As with all wing-powered metas, the feathered appendages burst from his back in a mass of black and umber, the pain nearly causing him to black out.
A few days later, the recruiters arrived and took him to Hammel.
At first he had a hard time settling in, unused to all the different students of different backgrounds and classes (he'd been surrounded mostly by other rich families growing up), but he soon got used to the quaint school, and continued to do well with his studies and training until he graduated on time with a full scholarship to the University of Vermont (not that he really needed it, but well-earned nonetheless).
His first year of college was great. He partied on occasion, but made sure to keep his studies first, getting the good grades expected of him. Along the line, he met and fell in love with a young red-headed woman that he was sure would be the love of his life. However, with his somewhat conceited nature and almost obsession with being successful, she eventually left him and broke his heart, leaving him bitter and more prone to finding casual bed partners rather than trying to find a soul mate.
He's currently working on his senior year at the university, planning to major in biochemistry, as well as a minor in sex education. He works part-time as a yoga instructor, as well as at a higher-class clothing store in the mall.
