The easy S T U F F . . .Name: Brendan Talbot.
Nickname: Brent.
Age: 16, born 17th August 1997.
Member Group: Student.
Power(s): Clairvoyance. Brent is able to see things that are ongoing somewhere other than where he is. He needs to have some familiarity with the person or place he is looking at (be it having seen them or a picture of them before), but once he has that he is able to close his eyes and see whatever is occurring regarding them right this moment. His current maximum range between him and the 'target' (for want of a better word) is limited to around two miles but that could well be improved with training and practice. If the person or place is out of that range then he cannot see them. Brent can only see what is ongoing right now, he cannot see things that have already occurred. He is also limited to visual only; for example he can see two people talking in a room but he can't hear what they are saying. Brent can easily watch a person or place for up to fifteen minutes without issue. If he pushes much beyond that he begins to get severe migraines and blurred vision, and if he views for more than about half an hour without a long break there is a high chance of him going temporarily blind. A mostly unforeseen side effect that is creeping into Brendan's case is that being a fly on the wall is quickly proving to be very addictive.

It's quite all right, I was wanting to head up this way soon anyway. My sister lives in Maine, I'm going to visit her for a few days while I'm up here.
I see. As you know we have had some small concerns with Brendan's behaviour of late, and I was hoping we could talk and see if we can come up with some sort of plan for how to tackle this current situation.
Aye, he's always been a headstrong one but never this bad before. I don't know what has gotten into him lately. He's getting to be just like his father; God rest his soul. Ewan was always so stubborn and had mood-swings all the time; I used to tell him 'Ewie, you been havin' a mid-life crisis all ye life', so I did. Pains me to know my boy is going the same path.
I'm sure it isn't quite that bad, Mrs Talbot. If w-
Please, call me Fiona.
Fiona... Brendan's clairvoyance manifested in February this year, as you well know. One of our staff members with tracking capabilities detected him roughly four days after his initial manifestation; Brendan wasn't even aware he had an ability until it was explained to him, and then one of our recruiters brought him here. He's been here since then, and so far his progress has been... disappointing.
Just like his father, that. We came over here in 1986, we did. Silly idea of his, opening a restaurant. His food was good enough for Dunfermline, it was, but those fancy folks in Georgia wouldn't have it! I told him, I did, but God bless him, it was his dream. We sold everything to come over here. Ewan tried, he did, but it was never easy. Then his heart gave out, and I had to sell the restaurant. Poor Brendan's never even seen Scotland, but he still loves it... I'm sorry, what was the question?
I was just going to ask – before Brendan came to Hammel we knew his school results were rather poor and that he was very unfocused, and that seems to be something we are having trouble improving on. The only subject he seems to really care about and succeed in is home economics, and even then it's only really the cookery sections, which he has a good natural flair for. We know that after his older sister last visited and spent some time with him his efforts were better for a little while. I know they can't speak over the phone, but do you think there's a way we could arrange for them to have regular Skype chats?
Aye, I should think so. Lena has a laptop with one of those camera things so I'm sure they'd be able to talk that way. It's hard, with her deafness, but if he's been practising his signing like I told him to then they should cope well enough.
That is good to hear. I'll look into getting that set up for him soon. Another thing; Brendan has it stuck in his head that he's going to be a world famous professional trial bike rider, and it-
It's sad, aye. It's all he's ever wanted – once, Ewie took his bike away because he failed a test; way Brendan went on you'd think he'd lost a leg. It would've been less traumatic to take his leg. I'd say, if the church allowed such a thing he'd marry that bike of his and be happy for it.
Yes, it certainly does seem that way. He is so determined that he is going to succeed with that dream that he has all but given up any attention to his school work because he says he doesn't need a backup plan. When his last major assignment was coming up we knew there was a junior trial biking competition the next month, and we told him that he could enter it if he got at least a B. The paper was for his English class; about the handling of socially problematic themes in contemporary literature. He wrote a truly fascinating paper on the glorification of suicide in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga that was top of the class and got an A+. He is intelligent and can work incredibly well when the motivation is there... It's just a shame it's such an uphill struggle to get him to work.
He's always been the same, he has. When he's in the mood he's smart as a button and damn well behaved too, but... he wants to be Danny MacAskill and it's hard ta make him see any other way. I remember one time, when he was wee, he took his little tricycle over a ramp he'd made with some friends, out in the middle of the street. Busted up his arm real well and gave him that road-rash scar on his side. He was bleeding everywhere, we thought he'd broke his arm, but he was fightin' hard with the paramedics because he wanted to try again. He don't back down from anything.
Yes, we have noticed that too. Despite all his noise and arrogance Brendan tends to be a fairly safe student – he never really gets into fights or arguments or anything like that unless he is hugely provoked. But... once he does get to that point-
Is this the hamster thing you mentioned over the phone, why you wanted to see me now?
It is, yes. Brendan's dormmate, who has just recently left for the school in Switzerland, had a pet hamster. Brendan and Liam were very close friends despite their very different personalities; Liam is a very quiet, shy introvert and Brendan kind of looked after him when some of the rather more troublesome students tried to cause problems. One such student decided it would be funny to steal Liam's hamster and hide it in a tupperware box. The hamster died. Brendan overheard a boy talking about it to his friend... It took two members of staff to drag Brendan off him. The boy needed to have his nose reset.
Aye, he doesn't fight often but when he does, he really throws himself inta it.
He does, yes. It's the same with his power. We have reason to believe that Brendan is using his power for... unsavoury purposes.
He's bein' a dirty pervert?
I wouldn't put it in so blunt a term... But we believe possibly, yes. It is very difficult to prove though, especially since Brendan doesn't seem to have any interest in using what he's seen or what he knows for any actual, real benefit. There is, however, the very real concern of his behaviours getting out of hand or for him to start using what he knows in retaliation if someone upsets him or someone he cares about.
You want me ta have a talk with him?
Please, if you have the time while you are here. Brendan is a good person overall; his work is abysmal but he looks out for the kids who are struggling and he's never overly defiant or rude. It's just his poor work ethic mainly, and the worry that he is spending more and more time wandering around bumping into things because he's away elsewhere all the time.
Aye, I'll have a word with him and I'll get our Lena to catch him on Skype some time soon. She's always been better at getting through to him than me... He does so remind me of his father. Ewie was so stubborn but he meant well; he was blind to anything but his dreams, even if he didn't realise that they were never going to happen... It breaks my heart to see my little boy going the same way...Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Splatticus, destroyer of worlds!
