Dropping her bags on the ground briefly, Callista reached for the door and pulled it open, stepping into the main office hesitantly. As the door closed softly, she glanced around, searching for a familiar face before settling her eyes on a comfortable looking couch by the wall. The room was devoid of inhabitants - except for herself, of course - and she shuffled towards the sofa, taking a seat nervously and pulling off her gloves and hat. Now all she could do was wait for her brother to arrive, as per the plan.
As she sat, her thoughts wandered, remembering the uncomfortably silent drive to the school. As much as her parents loved her, they clearly couldn't deal with the thought of seeing Parker, having dropped her off instead of offering to come in and assist her. As overbearing as they acted to her, it was evident that their dislike of their son far outmatched their desire to assist their daughter.
Glancing at her purse at her feet, Callista leaned down and pulled out the slips of paper holding her information. Dorm room 402, with three names that meant nothing to her (yet). Swim team, to her great delight. Even if she had needed to try out, she had a sneaking suspicion she would have made the team, but she felt lucky not to have put that to the test. Her thoughts wandered more as she assessed her situation. Callista knew so little about the school that was going to hold her for the next several years, and felt just a little lost, but a strange sense of excitement and freedom was brewing in her stomach.
She was finally free of her parents!
