The BasicsName: Jadelyn Adrianna Coswell
Nicknames: Jade
Age: 33
Orientation: Pansexual, heteroromantic
Desired Rank/Job: Townie
Powers: Plant manipulation
Jade is capable of manipulating the growth and flowering cycles of plants within roughly four feet of her body.. This limits her to ability to only really working on plants under 10 feet tall. She has only ever been able to use her ability on green plants with traditionally subterranean root systems that use photosynthesis.. She is most effective with plants that bear seeds and fruit.. if only because these are the plants that she has practiced on most. While not able to change plants or grow them without the correct seeds, Jade is capable of dramatically speeding up the growth process of plants, and capable of forcing them to flower or to refrain from it entirely. When she steps away, the plant resumes it's normal growth and behavior from the point she manipulated it to. Plants cannot be grown from thin air and do require nutrients from soil as well as sunlight, though her abilities do seem to dramatically decrease the amounts of both nutrients and sunlight that the plants need to grow to their adult full sizes. She is unable to bring a completely dead plant back to life, and has never been able to outright kill a plant with her ability.
In a period of roughly three to five hours, Jade is able so cause a plant to grow to the size it would naturally have reached in around three months in similar conditions.. It has taken her twenty years of daily practice in order to bring her ability to this level, and she must be within three or four feet of the entirety of the plant being manipulated from the deepest root to the tallest branch.
Side-effects include nutrient deficiencies, headaches, fatigue, dulled senses and numbness that spreads from her extremities with overuse of her ability.
Play By: Avril LavigneThe DetailsHair Color: Naturally amber, it has been dyed green since she was 11.
Eye Color: Green
Any Piercings? A few places where some used to be..
Any Tattoos? Worldtree symbol, mid chest. Full-back mural of Gaia and the worldtree. Vines on her arms and torso.
Any Scars? Quite a few, most from childhood. None disfiguring, none noticeable from more than a few feet away.
General Appearance: Put simply, Jade is short, slender, and thanks to a genetic hormonal disorder has aged extremely well. Despite being in her thirties, Jade often passes for someone in their early to mid twenties and if she were a fan of drinking would likely get carded often. Her eyes are a deep, soft green, and she has been dying her hair an almost neon green color since before she was even a teen. She takes after her mother - a woman who is more Irish than anything else - and prefers to avoid makeup for the most part.
Jade has always had pale, creamy, smooth skin that hides scars surprisingly well and burns easily in the summers. She once wore hats and sunglasses almost daily, but prefers anymore to wear simple and comfortable clothing, letting her hair and her eyes shine. She is more a fan of jeans or sweats than dresses, and there are only a few months out of the year that she will wear short-sleeved shirts, though she will often roll her sleeves to her elbows to keep them out of her way. Her hair extends more than halfway down her back, and has a natural gentle waviness to it.
Jade's neutral expression can best be described as 'contemplative' and her posture as neutral confidence. It is rare to see Jade with a true smile, despite how beautiful and natural her smile looks. Jade can often be found with a smudge or two of dirt on any exposed skin, as she works with plants on a daily basis, and her wardrobe contains a majority of darker and earthy colors to hide this. Her serious face is subtle but powerful, and Jade's face gives away easily when she is irritated or disappointed.
Personality: While Jade is very forthcoming with her opinions about general things, it is rare that a person is allowed to get very far into her head. She is extremely loyal to those who manage it and very open with people that she trusts. To the random bystander she may come across as standoffish or a bit bull-headed or even fanatical about certain topics, and can appear extremely apathetic about others.. sometimes seeming to go from fanatical to apathetic from one breath to the next. This has nothing to do with manic symptoms, and much more to do with a lack of faith in the general population. Just because most people are either too stupid or too trained to carry on a conversation, though, doesn't mean that they don't deserve to be helped when they are in need.. Lack of faith in humanity is no excuse to be a crappy human being, after all.
Over the years Jade has taken herself farther and farther off the grid.. She built her own very small house, lives mortgage free, makes her own soaps, shampoos, and hair dyes, is roughly 90% vegitarian, drinks raw milk, is anti-pollution, anti-big-business, pro-choice, etc. etc. She believes in women's rights only as much as she believes in human rights, and is not above spending a night in jail defending her own or those of someone who is incapable of defending themselves. Jade is what some might call a very strong woman.. What she lacks in stature and physical strength she can make up for in force of character and will. She believes a good and just life is more important than a long one, and is easily turned away by biggotry, willful ignorance, sexism and racism. She believes Metahumans are no more or less special than anyone else, and while she believes in the right to free speech, the person that chooses to exercise that right should be able to hold their own in an argument against it without resorting to fallacies or straw-man tactics.Your VicesLikes:

Secret: Jade has struggled for the majority of her adult life to comprehend how so many people can be so narrow-minded and ignorant of.. so. many. things. Any time she dwells on the thought for too long it can start to cause anxiety and depression... Hence the reason she is quick to dismiss people that prove that they are beyond hope.Family TiesFather: Marcus Ryan Coswell
Mother: Alana Coswell
Siblings: Brianna Rachel Coswel, sister, born 5 weeks premature, pronounced dead 3.5 hours after birth.
Any Other Important People: Raining Stars, the local librariansHistoryBorn Feb 19, 1980, Jadelyn Adrianna Coswell was a beautiful little girl with her mother's looks and her father's analytical mind and quickly blossomed into a remarkably intelligent little girl. When she was five, her parents had her sister.. five weeks early. Brianna died later that same evening. Her mother, Alana, never quite fully recovered, and her father, Marcus, in order to avoid taking out his own feelings on his family.. buried himself in his work. By the time Jade was ten, her father was managing a local bank and her mother was teaching pre-algebra at a local high school near Chadron, Wyoming. Already Jade was becoming unhappy with her preassigned roles in life and how things were supposed to work.. She didn't understand why people did the things they did or how they had decided that those were the right things to do. So little of what people did made sense.
A phenomenal reader for her age, Jade began frequenting the local library.. She read books far too complicated for her to truly comprehend at that age, but that did settle in was that the only reason people did things was because it was what they thought they were supposed to do.. And she figured that meant that she was supposed to do something else.. So at the age of eleven, Jade used Kool-aid to dye her hair bright green. It wasn't the best job.. and it made a horrible, horrible mess.. but it marked her as different. It marked her as unafraid and unwilling to accept the way everyone else acted like a sheep and just.. followed and did what they were told. She wanted to know why she was being told to do these things.. and until someone could give her an answer that made sense, she would be different. Both fortunately and unfortunately, the only answer she was ever really given was 'because those are the rules' and 'because change scares people'. Jade began having run-ins with bullies and people who hated her.. just because her hair was different than theirs. Because it wasn't the norm.. So Jade learned how to avoid people and how to spot people that were safe and... there were so few that were safe. Outside of schools he spent much of her time in the back yard in their garden, reading books from the libraries and staring up at the clouds and thinking...
Age eleven rolled around.. Jade was becoming more and more confident that everyone else was wrong. That just doing something because it was what everyone else did was stupid, and that 'because' was not a good enough answer to 'why'. She had very nearly stopped communicating with her parents, learned to prepare many simple meals for herself, and spent more time at the library than at home... until one weekend when she realized that it was the middle of November.. and she had no food. The garden was bare and there was nothing in the house she could prepare. But when she'd walked outside to stare hopefully at the withered tomato plants just in case... they had seemed to gain some life before her eyes. Lo and behold, Jade was a metahuman, manifested three months shy of her twelfth birthday. Given that this was in 1991 and the internet wasn't really a 'thing' yet, she had no clue what a metahuman was.. Soon enough, though, she found herself in Vermont at the Hammel Institute.
There she met the person who perhaps had the single biggest impact on her upbringing. A very pretty boy (who liked to dress like a girl) named Raining Stars. He was two years older than her and.. was finally someone who thought like Jade did. Their meeting was abrupt and unfortunate in that they were both running from their respective bullies, and their collision resulted in each of them taking a beating on that day.. From that moment on, though, they were friends and nearly inseparable. Jade quickly came to very much enjoy Rain's company and his outlook and .. everything about him. Three years later she was growing most of their food and it was rare that they did not see each other on a daily basis. Jade lost her virginity to Raining stars and they were only better friends for it. A minor accident in the aforementioned loss found Jade at the local hospital for a pregnancy test.. The limited bloodwork that was run showed hormonal irregularities and.. after several more tests were done, it was discovered that Jade had a condition, likely genetic in origin, that resulted in her not only not being pregnant, but sterile. Unable to conceive at all.
At first this had been a relief, but once the initial shock had worn off Jade had understood just what this condition meant for her. That regardless of effort, skill, or any treatments available at the time.. she could never bear a child of her own. She'd taken the news better than most would expect, but then most weren't lucky enough to have a friend as caring and understanding as Rain. Again, they'd only become better friends for the ordeal, and nothing else had changed between them. Little more than a year later Rain graduated and left school before Jade was able to, and Jade stuck around Pilot Ridge to attend college for courses in English, Horticulture, Mechanics, Biology... Anything she could get scholarships for and would come in handy both being independent and growing plants. She'd gotten everything she wanted out of college at the age of 23 and decided to take after her missing friend..
And so Jade left Vermont. She traveled the country hitchhiking. The experiences tempered her, helped her to read people, and showed her beyond a doubt that on occasion noone was above certain.. less-than-desirable means of paying their way and that there were in fact, still decent people in the world. She was no better than anyone else, if she wanted a ride she had to be willing to pay in a currency the driver would accept, and if the price was too high there would, eventually, undoubtedly be someone else along the way. During all of this time, Jade continued growing her own food and exercising her abilities. She'd been competent well before she'd left Hammel, and by the time she returned to Pilot Ridge at the age of 28, she was 'beyond proficient' to say the least. She sustained herself mostly off the grid growing her own food year-round and occasionally selling some less-legal plants until 2011 when Vermont finally put into place a program that would allow for the legal medicinal use of Cannabis. Jade was one of the first people in the state licensed to grow and distribute the medicine, and it is currently her main source of income... the vast majority of which goes to charity, as she simply doesn't need much that she cannot grow or make herself.. She resides in her small home made from a repurposed bus (reporposed by Jade herself, of course) and.. spends many of her days walking the streets of Pilot Ridge, searching for the signs of open-minded individuals, delivering medicine to her patients, and existing.. doing what good she can where she can for those that seem to deserve it.Roleplay ExampleSee Charlotte Greene, Koty Hura, Kitrana MooreWhat About You?Name: I'm Deuce
