I Wanted To Be Tall [Cale]

Penelope had been long avoiding training. She wasn’t particularly fond of her power, seeing as it was more of a burden than a gift, at least in her opinion. Yet, with this being her final year at Hammel academically, she couldn’t avoid this much longer. For once, Penelope dreaded a class. This was rare for the teen.

But that was no reason for her to skip, for the girl would still show up to class if she got hit by a cab earlier that day. It was just how she functioned.

Glancing at her wristwatch, Penelope walked down the hall towards the training room she was instructed to go to. She was early, as she normally was with classes, and as she reached the door, she poked her head inside to see that another session was not being held in there. So she opened the door wider and slipped inside.

Glancing around the room, Penelope sat herself down on a chair, placing her bag gently on the floor beside her. She briefly thought of her instructor, whom she had yet to meet, but her focus remained on what the training would be like specifically. Penelope could just imagine the headaches to come with it. But now it was only a matter of time to wait and find out, she crossed her legs and pulled out a book to read while waiting for the instructor to appear

Cale walked to the training room where he'd meet a new student of his. She was a senior, in the final stretch of Hammel and she hadn't had any training yet? That had to mean she'd been trying to avoid it, but you only could for so long before someone at Hammel noticed and assigned you to a trainer. Of course, then you just could ditch the training session, but he hoped she hadn't, although he wouldn't blame her.

He opened the door and walked into the training room--it wasn't much really. You didn't need as much room for a mental power as you did for a physical one, but he did know that mental powers were just as excruciating. A young brunette sat in a chair in the middle of the room with a book in front of her. "What are you reading?" he asked. He'd just spark up a casual conversation first. If there was anything he learned, it was that you just couldn't walk in and say "Well, let's get to work."

Penelope hadn’t glanced up when she heard the door open. She wasn’t trying to be rude, but instead just wanted to finish the sentence she was reading. Once she did, however, she looked up. Her eyebrows knitted together. He was so young, not at all what she was expecting.

Her confused look only grew as he asked her what she was reading. He certainly wasn’t a traditionalist, now was he? “Downton Abbey and Philosophy.” She answered, closing the book before holding it up to show the cover.

She paused a second before sliding her chair out and standing. “I’m Penelope.” She took a couple steps closer to him, but didn’t offer a hand. She was never one for physical contact of any kind. “Penelope Blaise.”

Cale nodded at what she was reading. "I've heard of that show," was all her offered in response. She was giving him a strange look, as if she'd expected an old man or some sort of hardass yelling at her to stand up and run a few laps. "And I'm Cale Hensley. It's nice to meet you, Penelope." He was about to hold out his hand, but he knew why she hadn't held out hers and that she had a good reason for it. She was weird about physical contact, which he could understand, given her powers. He wasn't big on it either, considering being close with people meant that he'd know when they were in danger and it was hard to deal with that.

"You don't seem too happy about being here, Miss Blaise. And I can't say I blame you, but I can assure you that I am here to try and help you. And I mean that in the most non-lame way. But I want you to know, that this is only going to go well if you want the help."
