Let Me Go
Who was it? What had he done to deserve this? Why did it happen? Where? When? How...? Every single question that could be asked ran through Lucah’s mind after she told him. She said she was unhappy, that she couldn’t take it anymore, that she had cheated. It had been said more eloquently than that, but the gist of it was, she found someone else to make her happy because he wasn’t able to any longer. The worst part was that she had no tears in her eyes when she spoke, it was like she felt nothing for him. Had it just been one sided this whole time? No, he didn’t believe that, somewhere along the lines he messed up and it had ruined what they had. In short, it was his fault.
She sat in front of him and just watched, almost blankly. She really didn’t care for him anymore. Lucah always thought that Callie would be the one to get hurt because of him and they’d both be so upset, but this...he never expected this. He couldn’t look at her squarely because he could feel the stinging beneath his eyes and he couldn’t bear her to see him cry. He couldn’t let anyone see him cry. Once he got control of himself, he gulped and finally looked up at her, meeting her eyes, the solemn blue eyes that he’d never seen that way before. He cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck with a shaky hand.
“Say what you have to Luc, I told you I’d stay until you said what you wanted,” Callie said evenly. Her hair was pulled back, she wore the same thing as always and still she was gorgeous. He’d always admired how elegant her features were, how she just emitted beauty through everything. And as he’d once told her, he wasn’t sure what he’d do without her. Luc was at a loss and she was expecting him to say something.
Taking a deep, controlled breath, he waited a moment before speaking, “What am I supposed to say, Callie? That I’m pissed at you? That I want nothing to do with you anymore? Because I can’t do that.”
She nodded, “Well, then I’ll make it easy for you. I think we should stop seeing each other. I just can’t be in this relationship anymore.”
A lump formed in Luc’s throat and he tried to swallow it back down, but it stayed there. He just gave a nod slowly and looked down at his folded hands. She stood and grabbed her jacket, “I’m sorry, Lucah. I really am.”
As she began walking out of his apartment, he stood and went to reach for her, but his hand dropped because he knew it would do no good. She didn’t want to be with him anymore. Lucah couldn’t help but think that this was all his fault, not because he had done anything maliciously, but he pushed her into this relationship. He kept hounding her to be his girlfriend. Perhaps if he had waited until she came to him, things would be different and this wouldn’t be happening to him.
The worst thing was that he’d see her every day still. They worked together and he wasn’t sure how well he was going to handle it. What if she cheated on him with one of the girls there? Or worse...Booker? Lucah sighed, he had to move on. He had to keep going and he would survive this just like he survived everything else. And today...he had rehearsal.
After an hour of composing himself, to keep himself together, he headed to his place of work, where he would have to be professional and keep it all in. All he could hope for was that Tanner wouldn’t pry, that he wouldn’t notice any difference or that he’d put it off as typical Lucah PMSing like everyone else did. Tanner was probably the only friend he had at the House, outside of Cynthia everyone else hated him. Probably hoped that now that he and Callie were no longer together, he’d just quit and be done with it. They would be happy to know that the thought crossed his mind as he drove to the House. Unfortunately for them, he loved his job with or without Callie.
Putting his car in park outside of the Burlesque lounge, he took a deep breath and got out, heading to his impending doom. Lucah shook off his jacket when he entered and hung it up before making his way to the piano. Tanner was already sitting on the edge of the stage, and reading over the piece that Cynthia selected. Lucah hadn’t even had the time to look at it once and he figured that was probably a bad thing. He just hoped his piano sightreading skills would save him this time.
The blonde looked up when Lucah got closer and offered him a smile, “Hey, ready to get to work?”
Lucah nodded and set up his music on the piano before taking a seat. His eyes scanned over the music and he nodded to himself again as his fingers started tracing over the keys playing out the introduction once through before he looked up at Tanner, “Okay, I am all set if you are.” They both nodded and Lucah set out to play the intro again, this time with a little more edge to it.
Tanner closed his eyes and before his entrance, stood up, preparing himself.
Lucah followed his part and was surprised to find that it was a duet, but he came in and looked up at Tanner while he sang.
His eyes slid shut and he went along as Tanner sang the chorus, throwing in his own accents here and there. His eyes opened again, seeking out the blonde and it was like his whole view changed.
The song drifted to a close and they both just stared at each other. Lucah was stunned into silence. Something changed through the song, but he couldn’t place what it was. As he looked at Tanner, he found himself feeling lifted, like the prior events had never occurred, like he hadn’t even been with Callie just a day ago. His focus...it was all on his opposite. The yang to his ying. But it scared him because the more he stared, the closer he leaned forward like a gravitational pull. And before he could look away, Tanner was there, with his lips against Lucah’s. Hot on cold and the Romanian’s hand came up to cup his jaw.
He pulled back briefly and found himself smirking, “Well...I guess it’s a good thing Callie and I broke up.”
Tanner laughed and his eyes lingered on the brunette’s lips. “You’re telling me.”

Love that once hung on the wall
Used to mean something, but now it means nothing
The echoes are gone in the hall
But I still remember, the pain of December
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
Used to mean something, but now it means nothing
The echoes are gone in the hall
But I still remember, the pain of December
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
Lucah followed his part and was surprised to find that it was a duet, but he came in and looked up at Tanner while he sang.
You came back to find I was gone
And that place is empty,
Like the hole that was left in me
Like we were nothing at all
It's not what you meant to me
Thought we were meant to be
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
And that place is empty,
Like the hole that was left in me
Like we were nothing at all
It's not what you meant to me
Thought we were meant to be
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late

I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I let it go and now I know
A brand new life is down this road
And when it's right, you always know
So this time I won't let go
There's only one thing left here to say
Love's never too late
I've broken free from those memories
I've let it go, I've let it go
And two goodbyes led to this new life
Don't let me go, don't let me go
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go
Won't let you go, don't let me go
Won't let you go, don't let me go
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I let it go and now I know
A brand new life is down this road
And when it's right, you always know
So this time I won't let go
