The easy S T U F F . . .Name: Matthew Reed Rowland
Nickname: Matt
Age: Sixteen (February 8th, 1997)
Member Group: Junior
Power(s):
Matthew can “ghostwrite,” causing other people to see words. These now-visible words, instead of simply appearing, seem to manifest themselves as a form of dyslexia, where any written language around his target(s) is warped and becomes what he wants them to see. If by chance there is no written language around, the message is stored with the target until a language presents itself, though they only hold on to it for about five minutes. Also, the message takes on the “font and characteristics” of the text it’s replacing. This makes Matthew and others believe it’s a form of telepathy, causing the target(s) to ‘think’ they’re seeing something.
Using this ability normally doesn’t cause too much strain, but doing it too often can cause headaches and/or fatigue. Also, if using it for too long or too frequently, all the words around him turn into his thoughts and sometimes whatever he’s hearing and can disorient him. He’s had a “conversation” with one person for an hour and half before his side-effects began to set in. Normally, the person has to be within his line of sight, but on rare occasions with lots of concentration and energy, he’s been able to project his thoughts to one person outside of that range, though the person was only on the opposite side of the Hammel building. He’s also currently only been able to project his thoughts to a few people at a time; he’s successfully communicated with three people at once, any more causes strain and uncomplete messages. The farther away and/or the more people, the more stress and strain, though practice and training can help with this. Also, he can only transmit characters of the languages he knows. Currently he only “knows” English, but that wouldn’t stop him from looking on the internet and getting just enough knowledge on another language for a simple message.

Mom and Dad,
I know you did your best. I want you to know that first.
I can’t believe they forced me to come here. They took me away. They think they own me just because I’m a “meta.” Who exactly do they think they are?! I’m not doing anything around here until I can come see you guys. Whether they like it or not.
Mom, you tried to convince me that they were just doing this to help me, so I could understand my talents… I can’t accept that. I told them I didn’t want to go. You told them I was fine with you and Dad. But they took me anyway. What kind of “school” snatches 12 year olds from their parents?!
No one makes fun of me because I’m can’t talk, don’t worry. Most of the other students here are kind. There’s plenty of kids my age, and the older kids are kind of helpful. But I miss you all so much. Not many people here know sign language; luckily, I can compensate for that now.
They think it’s some form of telepathy. Definitely not as useful as telepathy, but it’ll do. It’s enough to get me by, especially since I didn’t even ask for it. I was fully functioning before this unwanted thing fell into my lap! I play sports, have friends, even got in trouble a few times, just like other kids. I don’t need some power to make me feel “normal.” I would feel normal at HOME with my parents, not some teachers who don’t care about me and some students who are just as trapped here as I am.
… Dad, I know what you’re going to say, but I have to say this: I think I’m crying right now. They won’t see it though, I promise. The people here are going to think they can walk all over me just because I’m “not like them,” but little do they know I’m definitely not; I’m better.
I’ve never been away from you two for long. That weekend trip I took with The Jennasons to New Jersey doesn’t really count; they were like a second home for me. I’m going to try, though. The only good thing about being kidnapped by a boarding school is that I’m going to have to be independent. But I honestly think I could’ve learned that by growing up in New York.
I’m scheduled for a training session on this unwanted “gift” I’ve been granted in a bit. Hopefully they’ll teach me enough about it so I can wiggle my way out of this school. It’s already crowded as it is. Dad, you know how I get about my journals. If any one of these punks touches them, it’s over.
I have to go now...
I promise I’ll write.
Love, Matt
P.S.:
