I guess I could see Joseph's concern. I know what he's trying to get at. I just don't appreciate, or approve of, his method of dealing with things. We live in this great country that... While it's shrouded in bureaucracy, it's also one where you can change things with enough gumption. That's what I've always been about, gumption. It's why PUSE is operating safely. It's why I've been able to do what I've been able to do to assure their message gets out there a bit better. It's why the metas have to draw first blood, to make them look like martyrs.
I don't hate them. Any of them. A lot of them are kids, for God's sake. And even the adults are decently well adjusted, for the most part. The salient concern is just their pervasiveness in our society. What they can do. I can understand that they don't want me carrying my gun in there. But at the same time, they're receiving government funding. And with this funding, they can continue their operation of sensing innocent boys and girls, and taking them over state borders and international borders.
Where does it stop? When are they going to be definitively halted? This gives them too much of an -- pardoning the pun -- advantage in the meta sense of the world. Espionage, invasion of thoughts of passers-by, the inability to ever really disarm them and prevent terrorism. This isn't Harry Potter, where there's just some ministry that can stop most uses of this. Vindictive meta decides to mind-control a pilot and his co-pilot to bring the plane screaming towards the ground? The ability to walk in to the white house unarmed, but still manage to kill the president without any evidence to tie him to it?
It's only breeding trouble. They have too much power. And if you question that power, you're a villain. That's why I have to be so quiet about this. That's why I can't let them ever really find out about my affiliations. There's no /good/ time to bring it to light. There's no advantageous side for me to say "Oh, yeah, I meet with PUSE regularly and roadmap plans." They'd be able to--- to twist that and get me fired. Hell. That's why I can't even think about it on a regular basis. Because there's nothing protecting me from that, like there is from a phone tap (Judicial order).
It makes them a martyr because they've managed to warp the identity of PUSE from those seeking equality, to those who are like Joseph, people who'd rather see them dead.
Honestly, if my end-fantasy of putting their entire collective on a big private island isn't good enough, I'd like to see technology, I'd like to see law, /anything/ to stop what they are presently capable of doing.
I think that'll by my first plan, really. We can work this out at our next meeting, how to skew the public image little by little.
