So the New Years party was....great. Yeah, he got to drink, socialize, dance with pretty girls....kiss...a pretty girl.

God, man, what the hell was he thinking? He kissed Olivia. He....kissed....Olivia. When for the past two and a half years he'd been yearning after Kailin. Sure, yes, he liked Liv. Liv was cool, Liv was his friend, he'd known her almost as long as he'd known Kales.

Dangit....Anthony had no idea that Olivia was even interested...wait, was she interested? Anthony had never got that kind of impression from her before. But now that he'd gone and kissed her.....that was completely irresponsible of him, what if he led her on, made her think that he wanted something more from her than just a friendship? Yeah, sure she was nice and he enjoyed hanging out with her but...but nothing! He couldn't do that to Liv, not when he was still hung up on Kailin.

When Anthony received a text from Olivia earlier that day to meet her behind the stacks in the library, that was exactly what was going through his mind. She thought they were a thing from that one drunken incident, and wanted to meet up like a pretty little new couple in secret or something. Maybe? Because, who wouldn't want to go out with Anthony after he kissed them? Not that he'd actually kissed many girls before, but Anthony was still quite the awesome catch, if he did say so himself.

Anthony cautiously entered the library, moseying through the front and back into the bookshelves, keeping his eyes peeled for Olivia. "Liv?" he whispered. Was she not there yet?

New Years Eve had been a disaster and Olivia was so embarrassed for her behavior. She couldn't believe that she'd not only gotten drunk, but then whored herself out the the closest male in the attempts to make Reece Morgan jealous. So what did she do? She went for Anthony. Anthony whom she'd known forever. Anthony who LIVED with Reece. Brilliant. Brilliant brilliant girl. And worse? It wasn't going to go away. Not only had she done all of that, but she'd done it publicly, in a dorm, with probably the biggest mouths at Hammel. Fantastic.

For a couple days Liv contemplating ignoring what had happened. It seemed like the easiest option, but when whispers continued to float through the halls of the new hot item at school Liv knew she had to stop it. If not for her own sake, for Anthony.... What if he actually had feelings for her? Her stomach knotted, he was cute and all but he was Anthony and that was just... no. That wasn't who he was to her and the fact that hey'd kissed at all felt incestious.  

Having avoided Anthony since the party, Liv decided it was best to meet privately. At first she thought of inviting him over, but that wouldn't do what with Lucy running around and her roommates... his dorm was a no go too considering Reece, so she picked probably the least used room at the school, the Library. Who needed to read when you had powers? 

She got there early, as usual and when she heard his voice carry through the stacks her heart jumped. She really didn't want to hurt his feelings. "Over here Anthony." She waved him over.

At this point, Anthony wasn't even aware that there was anything going on between Reece and Olivia. He knew, at least, they were friends, but he didn't know that they were possibly vying for each other. Anthony was a little bit oblivious like that. And far to ego-centric to think that all this had been about anything but him.

In any case, Anthony had to make sure that Olivia wasn't getting the wrong idea over what that kiss meant, or rather what it didn't mean, before things got too far with them.

Anthony heard her voice and turned his head towards it, his smile creeping up awkwardly as he approached and rounded into their private space behind the shelves. "H-hey, Liv! How're you doing?" he asked, deciding to start with pleasantries before giving her the bad news. Or maybe he should just dive right into it?

"I'm….Mmmm, I'm really glad you texted me," he said softly, looking down to the floor all shy-like.

Liv couldn't help but raise a brow at the boy. Something about him was especially awkward today and his tone of voice only added to it. Her chest tightened. He was glad she texted him? Oh God she really hoped he wasn't about to confess his love for her or something. She hadn't thought that he liked her but then again they'd had their moments over the years and who knew... lord knew she had no game and Anthony's was probably worse...

"Yeah." she interjected, "Uhm." Her hands came up to her head, racking through her curls. Her nervous tell. "Yeah I'm good." She smiled, "You?" She didn't want to make this small talk abut for some reason her mouth wasn't making the other needed words. 

She really didn't want to hurt his feelings but the way he was looking, his eyes on the ground like a shy school girl. Shit. She was a terrible, terrible person. She shouldn't have lead him on... 

"Anthony." She started though the words weren't reaching her brain. They needed to talk. they needed to talk about New Years and their feelings specifically her NOT feelings. "Thanks... for... Coming." She managed, a stupid smile placed on her face which was definitely not helping the situation.

Anthony barely lifted his eyes to see her nervous gesture, then averted them back down to his fidgeting fingers. Great, she was nervous, he could tell and was busy making small talk which meant Olivia was about to make some grand, heart-throbbing confession, didn't it?

He didn't want hurt her by saying no and then ruin their friendship forever. Anthony really liked his friendship with Liv. They'd had some great times. But…It was Liv! She was more….well, she wasn't Kailin for one, and while it said nothing for how attractive she was, Anthony just wasn't into her that way.

"I'm okay, you know, just getting back into the swing of things with school," he rambled with a few unnecessary nods. "You?" He winced. Shit, he'd already asked that.

Well, this was awkward and Anthony didn't know how to bring up the important things he wanted to talk about at all. And now…well, he wasn't sure he could. Anthony looked up when Olivia expressed her thanks with that oh so girly-cute smile that was reminiscent of a girl in the presence of the boy she liked. "No, problem," he offered with a twitching blink. Dammit, he looked like an idiot.

"Uhmmm…." he tried to start. "I, uh….yeah…I was really wanting to talk to you, you know, since…..last time we saw each other which was….the last time we saw each other…..but school's been a little hectic, kind of hitting the ground running kind of thing, so haven't had a lot of time for…." And he was rambling again.

 She nodded with him. Why? She didn't know, there was something that felt right in nodding when you had no idea what else to do. False confidence maybe or maybe she was just an idiot. But nod away she did, and then Anthony repeated himself which cracked a smile. "Same." 

"No... Yeah... I.." She said in tandom with him as they both attempted to start the conversation that neither of them were particularly versed in. "no... It's ok..." She continued before finally they both ran out of words and the silence took over the library once more, leaving them, staring at each other in dim lighting surrounded by books with goofy smiles and no clue what to do. 

"I.." Liv took a deep breath. Just do it. Just say what you have to say she coached herself. "So..." She swallowed hard. She'd rehearsed this entire conversation a hundred times before coming to meet him, so why was this so difficult? "About New Years..." and her hands were back in her hair. "It was..." weird. Weird was what it was and bad and well it was good and fun but bad. "Uhm... Can we talk about that?"

Yeah, the two of them were just standing there like a couple of nervous, nodding, blushing idiots. Nothing was making any of this easier and…well, damn, if he didn't get himself calmed down, get this over and done with soon, then he was probably going to go all plushie-rain on her and pass out again.

There was an awkward silence between them after Anthony's senseless ramble until Liv finally spoke up, causing Anthony's heart to catch in his throat as he prepared himself to hear what he knew she was going to say. Should he stop her? Turn her down before she could get it out, would that be easier on her?

No, just hear her out and turn her down geeeeently.

Anthony kept him mouth shut and lifted his eyes to look upon the dark-haired girl, giving her all of his attention so she'd know that he wasn't tuning her out and that he knew exactly what she was talking about. He heard the words "New Years" and felt his heart sink as every word that came out after seemed to point in the exact direction he was afraid of. "Uh….Yeah…New Years, yeah, I think we should. Um…yes. It was…" Weird. Nice, but weird and not something he should've done at all. Especially since Liv(and he) had been drinking.

Though before she could get another word in, Anthony held up his hand as he looked down to the carpet, deciding to be the bigger person and explain himself first. "I think I know what this is about and….." He rose his eyes slowly to meet hers. "And….I'm sorry, Liv. But I can't go out with you."

There, now that wasn't so hard!

Liv had managed to catch her hands on the bottom of her tunic sweater, ringing the fabric out awkwardly as she prepared herself to let Anthony down and let him know what a total and complete mistake the entire situation had been. Had it been what she wanted? At that moment yes. She wanted very badly to kiss someone and for all the wrong reasons. Had she wanted it to be Anthony? At that moment it seemed perfect... did sober Liv agree. ABSOLUTELY NOT! 

She opened her mouth to speak when he interjected. Her eyes opened wide, dropping the sweater. "What?" SHe asked dumbfounded as the words processed. Well that wasn't what she'd been expected. 

A grin slowly stretched across her face. "Wait." She started laughing, "Wait, Woah." She said as it clicked even further and she completely lost herself in a fit of total and complete insanity. 

"You... thought..." Liv said between giggles, "You thought... I wanted to go out with you?" She shook her head throwing her hands up in protest, "I thought you wanted to go out with me!" She tried to explain though it was difficult with the cramp that was forming in her side.

Anthony's face was likely a very un-delicate shade of red at this moment. Just a little further and he could feel the storm starting to break out. All he had going on in his head and chest was a mess of worry and fear and shame for having to break the news to Liv so bluntly like that and he closed his eyes tightly, expecting the tears to come any moment.

But…they didn't. Instead, they were replaced by a flurry of what sounded like giggles and Anthony's first thought was that she was so shocked that she was going into shock!

Anthony looked up at her, wide-eyes, as she succumbed to her intense sorrow with insane giggles, wondering if there was anything he could do to comfort her and calm her down. Fortunately, her next words revealed that that was unnecessary.

"What? No! I mean, yeah, that sounds pretty bad considering what I did, but no, that was…." He was completely confused and not sure if he should join in with her giggling or just smile or just stand there while he waited for her to calm down and possibly explain more. "I mean….sorry, I just didn't want to lead you on or anything like that, and I know you were drunk, well I was drunk too, but it was…." He shook his head. "I'm just sorry, I shouldn't have taken advantage of you like…that…." Cue nervous laugh.

"Uhmmm....do you think you could...stop...laughing at me? That's not exactly making me feel good." Being laughed at after revealing your impression that another girl liked you wasn't really beneficial to his self-esteem. Granted he had lot of it by the truck-load, but it still stung.

"Sorry... Sorry." Olivia said as she took in air calming herself down to manageable giggles trying her best to wipe the grin off of her face. It was rude, she was being ridiculous and she felt bad for that. Wait, he thought he took advantage of her? Her laughter died down. "What? No..." She said waving her hands, "You didn't take advantage of me... I hit on you pretty heavily....." She said as her cheeks flushed. She was still embarrassed about that. 

"I just... I felt like a huge idiot after New Years... I Shouldn't have lead you on and it was for just all the wrong reasons." She said, the smile wiped completely off her face now was the guilt started to bubble up inside her stomach. "I mean don't get me wrong I liked kissing you... but that's.. that's so not us." She glanced over at him catching his eyes. "I don't see you in that way.. I mean... I could, I'm sure I could but I don't." She didn't want to further insult him. He was a good looking guy, but he simply wasn't for her.

Anthony managed a smile after the apology. Still a little awkward being laughed at after you assume such a mistake but…well, at least she was trying to be sensitive about it, so Anthony decided to not address it further.

"You did?" he asked, pressing his brows forward. "Hummm, I though you were just a little drunk…well, I thought that after, but…" He thought it was one of those "alcohol lessens your inhibitions and makes you brave enough to go for things you wouldn't normally" kind of things with her.

"Yeah, me too," he admitted, his eyes downcast. "Yeah, no, it's not…Not that I don't like you, I do, just…no offense or anything, I think you'd make a fine girlfriend for me, or somebody else but…"

Anthony probably should've just stopped there, but he was in the groove of just explaining himself and everything that went with it that his brain turned off for a second and his mouth just kept going. "I think I was just a little bit desperate and discouraged because…well, because things haven't really been going anywhere with Kailin and I wasn't sure if I should just keep waiting for something to happen or go for someone else who actually seemed interested and then you were there and I thought I saw something and so I just….." Anthony shut up finally, finally thinking he probably said too much. He looked up at Olivia again. "I'm sorry, Liv. I feel like I used you and…and that's not cool."

Liv's heart fell slightly as she watched Anthony. Part of him seemed really relieved that she wasn't trying to be his girlfriend but there was another sadder part that made her heart ache, especially as he continued to explain his situation.

When he mentioned Kails, her Kails, a grin creeped onto her face. Oh really? She covered her mouth, she really needed to work on her poker face. Why hadn't Kailin talked to her about this? Was this like a thing? Did she know that Anthony liked her? Did she like him!?! Oh God.... did she? Her stomach got caught in her throat... if Kailin liked him and he kissed her? Shit... that was not good, actually it was the opposite of good it was downright terrible. It was against everything "girl code" was supposed to be. Her hands found her sweater again. 

"No. Stop you didn't use me and Kailins a great girl." She said feeling like she needed to say something so Anthony knew she was listening. "And don't feel bad... Honestly we're not that different... I was..." She sighed shaking her head. "I was actually a little drunk and trying to make someone jealous who probably doesn't even know I exist... beyond friends at least." She sighed. It actually felt nice to talk to someone about how she was feeling... relieving... but of course the relief was rapidly being replaced by new guilt.

Anthony was trying really hard to not make Liv feel bad about the whole situation. Liv was really nice, and yes, he really liked her!

Just…Kailin….

He was just so hung up on her, that one moment on insanity aside, Anthony didn't think he could even consider another girl until he was absolutely certain nothing could or would possibly happen with her.

Did he make a mistake in admitting it to Olivia? He was prepared for more criticism now, that he was never going to get with such a great girl like Kailin, that she was way too out of his league but… Liv actually surprised him with her support, and he smiled broadly like a doofus.

"Yeah…yeah she is," he agreed. "I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm just this goofball that hangs around her all the time though." Was he blushing? Probably. He blinked as she explained that she was…well, doing pretty much the same thing. Seems they were both hung up on someone. And he wondered just how much more of a mistake and disaster it would have been if they both decided to just say "fuck it" and get together. "Man we're both pretty….well, I wanna say 'pathetic' but I don't want to be insulting because you're…" He chuckled nervously.

Liv leaned her head into her hands as she listened to Anthony talk, and ramble and talk and her heart began to pull gently at its strings, aching. A wave of jealousy started to filter through her blood, not because she wanted Anthony, but rather because she realized in that moment how badly she wanted someone to like her... the way Anthony liked Kailin. He wasn't spelling it out, not totally, but his behavior and how he reacted to everything that happened... it was obvious. 

"Pathetic." She finished his sentence. "Pathetic... is the right word.. for me at least." She said as her smile faltered a bit. "Honestly..." She sighed shaking her head. "The fact that I felt, even drunk, that I had to go out of my way to make Reece jealous to notice me..." she ran her hands through her hair "well it just proves how much he doesn't, and won't, and how stupid all of this is." 

Liv leaned back in her chair, her eyes catching the ceiling, what a mess. She couldn't help but wonder. "What is it about Kailin you like so much... if you don't mind me asking." She wanted the details, if her happy ending wasn't going to happen... she at least wanted to know about her best friends.... not that she knew if Kailin liked him or not... yet.

Anthony wasn't exactly subtle in his affections for Kailin, but since he never said anything concrete, especially not to her, one might take his behavior as just friendly and joking. He was a pretty fun and attractive guy, after all. Though even to Liv, he'd never verbally expressed his affections for Kailin so clearly….while still being vague.

He chuckled. "I was trying to find a kinder word. But that pretty much sums me up too…." Anthony looked up as she began describing her reasons behind that night…which were surprising, to say the least. He wasn't expecting Reece. Anthony shook his head. "I'm sure he does. He'd be stupid not to notice you."

Anthony shrugged, his smile dimpling up in his mirth. "I don't know. I guess…you know, she's always got that smile, you know….and always so…optimistic." He didn't really know what he was saying. "I can't really explain it." His face was probably beet red by now. But he'd already started talking, it was unlikely he was going to stop now. "Uhh…can I ask the same from you, maybe? I mean, Reece is…a great guy." Anthony held out a hand, waving it around to illustrate.
