One thing that Oriel was starting to really notice was that everyone on the dance team was actually better than him at the sport. Oriel thought he was good enough, especially with having no form of proper training. He'd learned on the streets by watching performers on the corners and copying what they did. Sometimes they'd show him a few moves specific. It was from those street dance styles that he gained a center of balance that allowed him to pull off quite a bit of acrobatics. He'd also watched and tried to copy, for the most part, stuff he'd seen on TV and in You Tube videos. But all that was a far cry from proper training.
The most formal training he'd gotten was what he'd been able to gather from being on the dance team. He kept up well enough. And then he sometimes got private lessons from the dance teacher, Hay-lin. Still, his confidence was starting to wane. The more and more time he spent with these people, the more he learned about proper form and technique and posture and execution, the more he could see just how much he sucked.
The best thing he could think of to do was to go back to practicing on his own as much as possible, because what he was getting in class and club practice was hardly enough. Plus he needed to use that time for rehearsal, they didn't get a whole lot of free time. Oriel had gotten out of the routine of getting up at the crack of dawn to go invade the dance hall, mostly because he was far too much enjoying getting a full night's rest with Phoenix in his bed on a nightly basis, but it looked like that's what he was going to have to do again, because he'll be damned if he tried so hard in front of people.
Though in truth, Oriel had been getting(a little) better about that too.
It was about six in the morning. Class would be starting in a couple hours, which gave him more than enough time to get some practice in and get back to his dorm for a shower before heading to the classrooms. Oriel didn't have any music with him, he didn't have anything to play it on anyway, so he'd just have to go with what was in his head. It was times like this, though, that Oriel wished he had a laptop or something so he could look up these "how to" videos and try to learn them here where he had the room to move about. Oh, well, he'd just have to go from memory, which was just fine.
The boy set his bag on one of the chairs, taking out a blue water-bottle, and climbed onto the stage where he spent the next five minutes doing a series of quick stretches in his loose black workout pants and dark grey tank-top. Once completed, he took off his shoes and then one sock. Oriel really had no idea what he was doing, but apparently that was supposed to make doing turns easier; use the socked up foot to turn and pivot on while using the bare one as a stopper...or something like that, that's what it said in the video. Taking a deep breath, Oriel set himself up to do one of those pirouette-like turns or whatever they were called. They looked pretty tight and Oriel wanted to know how to do it. He launched himself up, and spun generally smoothly for one...two turns....by the third one, though, Oriel lost it and stumbled, using his bare foot to catch himself on the hard floor.
Oriel set himself up to try again. This would be a whole lot easier if he had the guts to ask someone for help.
