Kai had always been a man of luxury. Even before he'd turned some couple hundred years ago, he'd surrounded himself in rich things - furniture, decor, food, wine. After he'd turned, well, that had been rough at first. He'd been completely consumed in his hunger, letting it control his thoughts and actions, living in empty, abandoned buildings while he waited for his next unsuspecting meal.
After a while, he'd gained control of himself. Realized what a disgusting creature he was, how far he'd fallen from the person he used to be. And so he'd changed. No longer allowed blood to drive his instincts wild, no longer sticking to the shadows. He'd become a man of mystery and seduction - after learning the art of concealment, he'd learned to hide his obvious supernatural traits, the color of his eyes and the pale, sickly color of his skin. His fangs he kept carefully hidden at all times. In this way, he could pass by as human - a strikingly beautiful human, but mortal nonetheless. And so he lived, getting by not on killing, but on pets, often willing ones, too. Kai would pick out someone he desired and work his magic, either taking them somewhere private and sampling them before wiping their mind of the encounter, or, sometimes, persuading them to live with him for a time, as a precious captive that he treated very, very well. In the end, he often ended up turning them as a reward.
Tonight, he was stalking the streets around downtown, which was a lot busier than places that most of his kind hunted. He knew of some others in the city - feral, secretive. Some older than him, some younger. Kai didn't bother them much, as long as they let him do what he wanted. He did, however, look down upon their violent, crude methods of feeding. It was messy, unnecessary, and gave far too many clues to the presence of their species.
Finding a quieter corner, Kai leaned against the brick wall of a club, watching people pass with observant eyes. Either someone would approach him - or a particular morsel would catch his eye (or his nose - he still was a picky eater, after all, and scent was important) and he would approach them. It was only a matter of time.
