Powers: Midas Touch - With just a tap of a finger Neo can turn anything imaginable into solid gold. The effects currently last anywhere between 1 minute and a few hours, but with practice, Neo will be able to transform objects permanently. The larger the object, the more difficult to change and the shorter amount of time it will remain gold.
Side effects for Neo include stiff and cold joints and a metal taste in his mouth for some time after using his ability. He also experiences varying levels of fatigue after use - he experiences very little when transforming small objects, but larger objects can cause a great deal of fatigue. Though Neo has been told time and time again that his power cannot work on living things, he has a deep seated fear that someday he may accidentally turn someone to gold.

General Appearance: Neo stands 5'9" if you don't count his hair which has the potential to add an inch to his height most days. He has some muscle tone because he runs track and plays tennis. His eyes are big and dark brown and his smile can go for days if you get him laughing. Neo is of African American decent. He likes wearing simple clothes - jeans and graphic tee shirts. He likes wearing hats, and should wear his glasses more often than he does.
Personality: Neo is an academic. From a young age he pushed himself to get good grades and be as smart as he could possible be. This is largely due to his sister's academic success - and Neo always wanting to compete for the 'top spot' in his parents eyes. He loves 'smart' humor and puns, and is often seen as a class clown who can get away with it because all the teachers love him. Sometimes Neo can become a bit egotistical when it comes to his grades. He doesn't like anything less than the best. He enjoys sports, but doesn't put as big of an emphasis on them. Even so, he makes a point of giving 100% to everything he does - school, tennis, powers training, everything. Generally, Neo is a nice guy with a good sense of humor. However, he puts a lot of pressure on himself and is a perfectionist which can lead to bouts of anxiety. When he becomes overworked he often pushed friends and family away in an attempt to get himself back on top - because his grades come first in his mind.

History
Neo grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia PA with his parents and older sister. His sister, Ami, is 4 years older, and often picked on Neo as a kid. They loved each other, but the sibling rivalry was fierce, and Neo constantly tried to be 'better' than his sister in any way possible. Impressing his strict and scholarly dad and his sweet but firm mother wasn't always the easiest thing to do.
From the time he was in first grade Neo excelled academically - much in part due to reading difficult books with his sister and trying to understand her 5th grade math homework. He wanted so badly to be 'as good' as Ami, without ever taking into consideration the fact that his sister was 4 years his senior. By the time Neo was in 4th grade he was reading 3 grade levels above most of the students his age, and was placed in an accelerated math program. Despite the pressures he put on himself, Neo became a class clown throughout his schooling as well. He realized that being smart wasn't always enough to impress, so he'd make jokes to make friends and make his teachers laugh. He especially loved jokes that had to do with things he had learned, and eventually found a special affinity for puns and math jokes. His parents didn't enjoy his jokes as much as some of his peers and teachers did.
Neo didn't experience any discrimination in his primarily white middle class neighborhood until he hit middle school - which incorporated some other even more white washed neighborhoods. Many of his peers, there, managed to use his ethnicity as an excuse to ignore him, or tease him, or put him down. He didn't fit in with the white kids because he was black. He didn't fit in with the handful of black students because he was a teacher's pet, well behaved, and spent too much time studying on the weekends. His grades started slipping due to his frustration, and the constant whispering that drove him insane. He couldn't even bring himself to make a joke in class because many teachers lumped him in with misbehaved students just because of his skin tone - his jokes would be perceived with malice instead of good fun. Only his Junior level math class made him feel like he was worth anything - and that was because his teacher encouraged him to push himself further because he was such a good mathematician.
Neo's manifestation was fairly quiet. A couple months after his 15th birthday, he was sitting in his room, tossing a tennis ball up and down as he ran through a speech he had to give the next day in his head. He muttered the words over and over as he tossed the ball up and watched it sink back into his hands. He was so focused that he only noticed the ball had turned to gold when he tried to throw it up and the weight caused his hands to sink back toward his chest. He stared at the now golden ball, confused. He left his room to show his parents, but by the time he had found them, the ball was back to normal. A couple days went by with only a few incidents of pens turning gold (all of which turned back before Neo could prove himself), before a Hammel recruiter showed up at Neo's doorstep. After a long discussion and explanation, Neo was packing and off to Vermont to attend the Hammel Institute.
Neo is took his recruitment as an opportunity to start over, and reestablish himself as something special - the best even. And he's working harder than ever to prove himself and make himself, his parents, and his sister proud. He is going into his Senior year at Hammel, now, even though he is only 16. He turns 17 in October, making him one of the youngest in his grade. He has the grades to graduate, but needs to work on his power more. He's determined, though, and very likely to succeed.
