Oh shit.
He should’ve known. And it’s not like Cam was the first guy to, well, turn him down once his identity as a telepath was outed. The first was Richard Leung, his ex. (Though to be fair it wasn’t just ‘cause Greg was a telepath; it was ‘cause he was a, in Richard’s words, ‘a freak’). Then there was Omar Bekhamir from Social Studies. Benjamin Freeman from Biology. Sahil Mann, who was roommates with a friend of his from Economics.
Didn’t make it sting less though. But Greg’s learned to deal with it. Even in a school filled with kids who can breathe fire or shout loud enough to shatter concrete, there’s still those who’re just uncomfortable with people who can get in their heads. For various reasons. And he shouldn’t take it against them.
Or at least that’s what he tells himself each time.
He quickly retreated from Cam’s mind the moment he sensed the discomfort, but sometimes thoughts were just so strong that they could break mental walls. And considering how his were still in the process of being strengthened, Cam’s thoughts about Chester easily bled through. If there’s any consolation, Greg managed to hold his walls so there were gaps in what the Canadian saw, but he did see enough to at least have a sense of the blonde’s relationship with this other telepath and how things turned to shit.
“Umm, yeah.” Greg himself didn’t dare look at Cam, but he did steal a few glances as he folded clothes. Not good. “So I guess the offer to give me a shower’s off now?” Probably not the best way to go about it, but he just had to break the silence. “And yeah, I mean, I got my best friend back home to bulk up in three months, and I’ve only been working out for a month. You, no problem.”
Word vomit to cure awkward silence. Hopefully it works.
