Angie shrugged her shoulder up, giving it a rub with her opposing hand as she walked down the main aisle of the diner carrying a near empty pot of coffee in the other. Another day, another day. But it was coming up on the weekend when she'd be able to work a shorter shift and spend most of her days at home doing whatever she will. Maybe they could make a day drip to the lake and just...hang out by the water all day? If it was warm enough, they could bring their swimsuits! Oh, that was definitely a plan!
The curly blonde was already smiling with glee at the thought, her step gaining a slight bounce in it as she rounded back behind the counter and set the pot back on the burner. She continued to set the brewer to make another fresh pot then relayed the next set of orders to the grumpy old puss that worked the grill in the back.
Business was going pretty quickly this afternoon, but that was to be expected. They often got a crowd with the rush hour traffic, lots of Pilot Ridge residents had their day jobs in the city, in Burlington, rather here in this small town. They were all coming home now, which meant that there were a lot of people with the afternoon munchies. You know, that time when you get hungry and it's not quite time for supper yet? Even if it was a quick snack, there was always somebody ordering something every few minutes at this time of day.
But it certainly was busy. And absent-minded Angie just couldn't keep up with everything. They really needed to hire one or two more workers for the afternoon shift already. Angie was called away to another table who'd just sat down and take their drink orders. By the time she came back to the drink counter...
Oh, no!! The coffee!!
Silly little Angie had accidentally set the brewer to make a full pot of coffee over a pot that had just a little too much in there. Truthfully, they were supposed to pour out the old pot so that this didn't happen, but when in a rush, sometimes they tried to fit the remains of the former pot in with the fresh brew. Most of the time, it worked out okay. But this time...the whole thing overflowed...and it was still going! Oh, dear! And the chime on the door rang again, indicating that there was yet another person waiting for her service. "I'll be right with you, hold on just one moment!" she practically hollered out from behind the counter as she grabbed a couple of white wash-clothes and started dabbing away at the super-hot, overflowing coffee.
And it was still coming out! oh, no! What should she do, Angie was so going to get fired over this!
