General Appearance: Julien is 5'9", fairly tall, and lanky. He doesn't have a lot of meat on him. His hair is a dark brown, thick and often curling out in random directions. He doesn't embrace his curly hair as much as his sister does and would rather it be straight, so much that he owns a straightner and often uses it. 
He wears a lot of hats on his curly haired days, which his hair tries to escape from and can usually be found in a pair of Converse, jeans, and a t-shirt, often v-necks. 
He's known for having thick lashes and full lips, a trait prominent in his family that makes him feel sort of feminine.
Personality: Julien wants to be a meta-human, probably more than anybody else, especially those who are already metas. He finds them and their wide range of abilities so fascinating and wishes he could have an ability as well. To him, they defy normality, which is all he's ever felt...normal. He's quite the dreamer, yearning for a more interesting and exciting life in which he has a power to spice things up. Because of this, he tends to go on overkill mode when he finds out someone's a meta and asks so many questions that they tend to find him annoying. He doesn't really see the downsides of being a meta, which can also cause people to become frustrated with him, despite the fact that he's extremely friendly to everybody he meets. 
He's always been a creature of habit, sticking to the routine of his life, but he wants something more and hates himself for being a stick in the mud, which he feels is all apart of his 'being too normal.' Because of this, the people he seeks out as friends often aren't the best influences, hoping to change who he is and become a more exciting, extroverted person. It rarely works out well. He's self-conscious of who he is and feels like he's not interesting enough as a person. He goes against his own moral code and his sense of judgment a lot to seem interesting enough to people. 
He's also extremely quirky in the fact that he carries around a video camera nearly everywhere he goes. He wants to be a filmmaker, but hates that all he can capture is normal, everyday experiences, rather than something actually worth watching.

History

Julien Henri Duval was born in Paris, France to Leo and Gina Duval. Four years later, his only sibling, Genevieve was born. As he grew up, he felt overshadowed by his sister, even though she was younger than him. She was just so much more extroverted and excited about life, she did things that Julien was hesitant to do or thought was a really bad idea. It wasn't that she was rebellious, but she was carefree and Julien really wanted to be like that.

When he was about seven years old, one of his closest friends always went on about how his brother was a meta and had been sent off to Kocher to train his power. This fascinated Julien and he asked his friend a ton of questions to satisfy his curiosity. Now that sounded exciting. A power would surely make his life more interesting. Him and his friend grew apart, because he became frustrated with Julien seeming more interested in his meta brother than himself.

The next few years, Julien was really close with his grandfather, who seemed to understand him. He told wild stories that helped fuel Julien's imagination and make him feel not so normal. He told Julien he could be whatever he wanted and he gave Julien a video camera for his thirteenth birthday, a gift he still holds dear and still uses, hoping that he's got a talent for film because he knows he has the passion. 

When Genevieve turned twelve, she manifested, getting what Julien had always wanted, a power, the chance to be a meta-human. Around this time, their grandfather passed away and Julien took it pretty hard. His response was to carry his video camera around with him everywhere, hoping to catch something of interest on film. Genevieve was recruited to Kocher, and Julien found himself still stuck at his normal school in France, sixteen and very unamused with it all.

Yearning for something different, he applied to an exchange student program in the United States (something his parents were reluctant to allow) and attended his last two years of high school in Vermont. Now that he's eighteen and graduating, he wants to stay in Vermont, considering he's learned that there's a meta school not too far away from where he wants to go to university.
