SUE: He's Going to Blow (Naozumi and Kieron)

Super-speed can cause nausea. So can illness. Naozumi is staving off losing his lunch in the middle of Kieron's office.

It was only a few more days before Nao had to go on his super-hellish run of finals. He had to get them done by the end of next week so that he could officially call his classes done with and he could leave school early to go on his family's vacation to Okinawa. Those were the arrangements that his mother had made with the school. Unfortunately, this bug that was going around didn't care about arrangements and plans, and decided to hit Nao right when he was supposed to be studying and right before he was supposed to take nearly all his finals at once. How he was expected to do this, Nao didnt' know, but as soon as he started feeling the sweats and the nausea come on, he'd made it down to the nurse's office, hoping to get some help from them to take the edge off.

Nao had rushed a little too much to the office, however, and upon arriving, was feeling a little bit flushed and a little bit chilled. And hot. And a little bit like he was going to pass out. His breathing had become short as he held onto the wall of the hallway leading into the infirmary. A bead of sweat dropped from his chin. He cleared his throat. "H..hello?" he called weakly into the bright white room.

Kieron was tired, of that there was no doubt. The last few days in the infirmary had been by far the busiest he'd experienced since his arrival at the school, and he and the rest of the medical staff were doing their damnedest to try to control this virus outbreak before it became a full-blown epidemic. He had already taken on extra hours to help cover the extra hands needed, most of the shifts being the night ones since he had a unique advantage when it came to moving around the campus after lights-out. That he didn't mind; he tended to prefer working at night anyway, but with the extra hours it was leaving him more irritable than usual, and that was also at least in part thanks to the fact that he had barely seen Maebelle at all since this virus had kicked off.

Finally the rush seemed to be quietening down a little, and Kieron decided to go on a coffee run for the rest of the medical team members. Christ only knew that they needed it just as much, if not more, than he did. Shrugging out of his tunic and into his jacket, Kieron made his way out of the infirmary, nudging his sunglasses up his nose so he wasn't blinded by the light pouring in through the windows in the hallway. That was when he happened upon the very sickly looking boy in the hallway. Oh Gods, not another one... “Hey there; you're not looking so great.” The coffee would have to wait for now. “I'm Kieron Sharpe, one of the nurses here. Can you tell me what you're feeling?”

Naozumi hovered around the doorway to the infirmary, apprehensive of going inside when there seemed to be nobody there. He would come back later if there wasn’t…no, he’d just have to wait, but it seemed a little too expectant to be sitting around waiting for someone like that was…no, they were doctors and nurses at the school, it was their job to be there for the students when they were sick…maybe?

Nao wasn’t sure he was thinking straight enough to make that determination.

So there he was, in the infirmary doorway, like a cat trying to decide whether to go in or stay out, when a voice came from behind and attempted to snap him back into reality. Attempted because the boy was severely distracted from the cold that was wrapped around his neck…and an urge developing in his stomach that he wanted so desperately to keep down. Because he remembered eating at some point during the day and if he chucked it up now, then that’s be a serious waste of the food he’d consumed and the money he’d spent on it.

He looked up through foggy eyes at what appeared to be one of the nurses, staring vacantly at the tall man, though this time it was clearly because he was ill and not because the boy was smitten by yet another one of the good looking men that this school seemed to be filled with. “…my stomach feels weird,” he mumbled like a little kid.

How many sick kids did it take before Hammel declared an epidemic? It was an interesting riddle and one Kieron feared he would know the answer to all too soon. He could foresee a whole string of long shifts and cancelled days off on the horizon and a sinking feeling began to set in. Working around all these sick kids, there was a very high chance he would get sick too. Kieron realised with dismay that it meant he would probably have to stay away from Maebelle for a while, to prevent her from getting it. This cloud had no silver lining; it was just more cloud.

This kid seemed to be genuinely sick as well, judging by his pale and clammy looking skin and rather vacant expression. Damn. Kieron had been so looking forward to a vanilla latte and an almond slice too.

“All right then, I can help you. I’m Kieron, one of the nurses. What’s your name?” Gesturing into the infirmary proper, Kieron led the way inside, shrugging out of his jacket but keeping his sunglasses in place. He always so looked forward to when he was scheduled to work the night shift. Indicating to one of the waiting chairs, Kieron said “Wait here a moment and I’ll go and see if any of the exam rooms are free.” Before he did that though, Kieron got a pulp kidney dish and handed it to the boy with a sympathetic smile. “If you’re going to throw up, try and aim in that, if you can.”

“Nao,” he uttered out weakly. He was at the point where he was too afraid to speak as that might trigger an unfortunate regurgitation. Nao followed the man-nurse into the infirmary and slowly settled himself into one of the chairs. The boy weakly grasped the dish that he was handed, staring blankly at it. What was he supposed to do with this? He heard the man, but for some reason it just seemed impossible to register. Nao blinked through watering eyes.

It was difficult to hold himself up, even while sitting. He felt like simply toppling over and laying across the spread of chairs until the nurse came back. As it was, Nao was swaying back and forth in his seat, the motion only serving to make him more queasy. He felt hot, yet the air against his neck was cool. Maybe if he stuck his face in a cold fan for an hour, he’d feel better?

Nao felt a thickness tighten in the back of his throat. He breathed deeply to keep it down.
