The BasicsName: Marcus René Showalter IV
Nicknames: Marc, Marnie, Maria, a variety of other female nicknames - he hates them all
Age: 20
Orientation: Experimenting, but never as a girl
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Human Shapeshifting - Marc can change his human shape between a male and female form of himself only. He cannot stay for any manner of time between genders; once he starts the shift, he must complete it before shifting back. It takes a maximum of 30 seconds to shift safely with few to no ill effects. The quicker he shifts, the longer he must wait before he can shift again. Stress on the body can cause Marc to shift spontaneously, quickly, and involuntarily, leaving him with anywhere from several minutes to a couple of hours before he can shift again. Stresses can include high impact forces, illness, over-exertion in exercise, and, of all things, sneezing. Other side effects include mood swings, aching joints, and fatigue.
As Marcus was born male, he identifies as male. He often wonders what would happen to him if his female form was impregnated, however this should not be a problem as his female form is infertile.

General Appearance:
Marcus is a tall boy(6’2”) of German descent, with pale golden skin and solid golden hair to match which he has kept cropped at shoulder length ever since he was old enough to make his own decisions about his hairstyle. His eyes are of a mysteriously piercing greyish-blue beneath a heavy brow that follows him even into his female form. In both genders, his structure is slight and wispy, although his bone structure is more pronounced in his cheekbones, jaw, and shoulder as a man than as a woman, where they naturally soften and round. When he does change into female form, Marcus loses very little height(about 4 inches) and his hair elongates past his shoulder down into the small of his back.
Marcus is a boy, and as such, will only be seen wearing men’s clothing in either form. The luck of his height and overall figure changing very little is an extra benefit to him, as he rarely would need to exchange clothes to accommodate his shift between forms. He will never be seen wearing women’s clothing casually, only on the rare occasion where a joke calls for it or a friend twists his arm for their own amusement. Outside of this, Marcus’ style is anything but fancy; jeans and a t-shirt. Never anything collared, in fact, he doesn’t even own so much as a hawaiian shirt, much less a polo shirt. On occasion, mostly when he’s feeling especially metal, Marcus will go through a phase where he indulges in the color black, or the color white, or just mix-match color of rock-and-roll awesome for his own eye-popping lolz, complete with piercings and chains and painted nails. If he feels like it, Marcus might even dare to wear guyliner, but he tends to stay away from that if just for the connotations it has towards the feminine.
Personality:
Marcus is more or less a fun loving guy and very much ADHD with quickly changing interests combined with a heightened energy level(as a side note, he does take adderall but often forgets to take it). He likes to be spontaneous, or so that’s what he says, but the truth is that he just can’t hold his concentration on just one thing for too long before he moves onto something else. This ultimately leaves him with unfinished projects and a massive amount of junk in his room that he says he’ll eventually get back to. And he will. Anywhere from a few days to several months later(even as long as a couple years) he will be digging through the landfill that is his closet and find something that he remembered doing back during that one time back then and decide on a whim that he wants to get back to doing this thing in the hopes that he will actually finish it this time. Sometimes it works and he actually makes progress. Other times, it just turns into a nostalgia day that ebbs away by the next morning after having stayed up all night with this ‘project’.
Now what kind of ‘projects’ are we talking about? Video games that he never completed, card games that he used to collect and play all the time, book series that he bought the box set of and never opened, art projects, mounds and mounds and mounds of drawings, books that he was trying to write, character drawings to go with them, a sticker collection that he always wanted to decorate his ceiling with, a calligraphy set with dried out ink, a CD collection that he never got around to organize(though it’s all on his itunes now and he still has to go through and rate and categorize all the songs), comic book series that he never completed the set to, a penny collection booklet that his dad tried to get him into, water shoes that he used for rafting and canoeing and kayaking, a sleeping bag that probably got mites from it’s last use, a dumbbell weight set that he used only once...you get the idea. Marcus wouldn’t call himself a hoarder. He knows exactly where everything is in his room. Therefore he calls it an organized mess.
Marcus gets along well with others, or so he’d like to say. He is very friendly and outgoing and typically excited to meet new people and then show off what he can do, because that’s what meeting new people is all about, right? Marcus sets himself up to fail, however, in that area as he doesn’t like being ignored and always boasting about oneself without listening to others has a tendency to backfire. This kind of treatment can easily depress him and under such circumstances, Marcus will either push persistently until noticed, or run off and find something else to do by himself. Or find someone else who is willing to indulge his hyperactivity.
Marcus doesn’t do well academically, unfortunately. There is potential, but the will to care and his tendency to turn in his assignments half finished if at all is what keeps holding him back in school. His power, too, is lacking control especially since he had a strong aversion to using it. Marcus is a boy and he enjoys being a boy, thank you very much! But it is because of his lack of practice and abhorrence of training that he lacks the skills to keep himself from shifting spontaneously under stressful circumstances. Which ultimately lands him in an even more dislikable spot.Your VicesLikes:

Strengths:
Jack of All Trades - He likes to believe he can do anything. While this is not entirely true, Marcus has an extremely wide range of interests and has acquired a rather vast skillset because of them. He hasn’t, unfortunately, stuck with most things long enough to be anything more than “moderately” good at them.
Social - He likes to get along with people and does so generally well
Guitar Hero - Expert level
Drawing - It’s his one passion. He wishes he were better

Weaknesses:
Academics - he just doesn’t care
Athletics - No stamina and very low ability for sports
Weak immune system - H gets sick several times a year. Every flu season hits him hard.
Allergies - These also hit him hard, especially during change of seasons

Secret: His mother walked out on him and his father when he was six. A few years later she came back. Since then, she comes in and out of his life at random moments and without warning. People always said Marc takes after his mother very strongly, both in personality and looks. The fact that he looks so much like her as a girl sickens him, making his dislike for the form that much worse.Family TiesFather: Clayton Showalter
Mother: Heather Lange-Showalter(current last name)
Siblings: Possibly some step-siblings out there he doesn’t know about.

Marcus Showalter III - Paternal grandfatherHistoryMarcus was born in Berlin, Germany (August 5, 1994) to a very happy couple of college sweethearts. Heather, the beautiful, fickle blonde she is, grew up in Berlin and attended Humboldt University where she eventually met Marcus’ father, Clayton Showalter, a US citizen who was staying with his grandfather, Marcus Showalter II, while he finished up his Masters in Physics. Heather ended up dropping out of college the moment that Clayton proposed and immediately after graduation, the two tied the knot and began their honeymoon, moving back to the states as soon as their week of bliss was over. A good nine months later, Marcus was born.
Clayton was offered a respectable job at a telecommunications company just outside of DC prior to his graduation and so finding work had never been a problem for him. Heather lived as a stay-at-home mom, having never completed her education and thus was often ineligible for work much better than retail or fast food, both of which she felt she was too good for. Which was just fine, she didn’t need to contribute anything, she thought, because Clayton had a exceptional job and his father was a man of privilege. All Heather had to do was take care of the boy and manage her wanna-be budding entertainment career. The woman liked to sing and perform and considered herself an entertainer as an occupation, even though nothing she ever did brought an income to the household. But that was fine, because at least she was there for Marcus.
When Marcus was six, unfortunately, the home life just wasn’t enough for her anymore. She’d met someone who promised her her dreams, and so with barely a word to the son she’d tried to be a decent mother to, Heather left with this other man that she’d placed her trust in, leaving behind her son, her husband, and father in law. Marcus didn’t see her again for three years.
In the meantime, Marcus was starting to exhibit problems in school. Acting out, dropping grades, inability to stay focused in on the lessons. The schools suggested to Clayton that he get looked at for a psych evaluation. A few months later of observation by both teachers and the physician had him diagnosed with ADHD. They tried him on medication and it seemed to help.
Shortly after Marcus’ 9th birthday, however, his mother returned from her long absence in his life, much to Marcus’ delight. He was so happy to see her and thought nothing of asking and finding out where she’d been all this time. He was just glad that she was home and that she was (presumably) staying. Clayton, however, was less than pleased. But as they had never divorced and was still the mother of their child and had no where else to go(or so she claimed), Clayton allowed Heather to stay with them in the hopes that they could be a family again.
It was just like old times and Marcus’ spirits seemed to have picked up dramatically. Heather taught him music and gave him voice lessons and taught him how to play an acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, all of this “mother-son bonding” interfered greatly in his normal life, and his grades started dropping again, even more after Heather convinced the boy that it was silly that they’d put him on medication. After all, Marcus was just a rambunctious boy and boys just needed to be boys. There was nothing wrong with him!
The whirlwind that was Heather lasted a little over a year, when, upon hearing of a new opportunity that she just couldn’t pass up, Heather left the home again in the middle of the night, leaving a short note this time for Marcus by his bed that simply told him to “be a good boy and she’ll be home soon”. But he didn’t get to see her again for two more years.
The years without Heather in his life were very structured and filled with expectation. It wasn’t that Clayton and he didn’t get along, the two of them had their own mass of adventures which they shared and gained precious memories from. But Marcus’ grandfather was also a very strict man and often made denouncing comments about Heather and how much Marcus naturally took after her. Marcus didn’t approve of this attitude and his act of defiance was to wear his hair long like his mother’s. A childish act and brought about practically nothing, but it gave the boy some manner of satisfaction.
When Marcus was 12, Heather finally came back again, but to a less than welcoming environment. Again, Marcus didn’t care or notice the hostility between the adults, he just cared that his mother was back in his life and they could have fun again. However, it was only six months before she left yet again. Marcus didn’t know or understand the dealings going on between his mother, father, and grandfather, but apparently his parents had gotten a divorce during that time and Marcus senior kicked the woman out of the house. To protect the boy from the truth, she told him that she was going off on a journey again and might not come back again.
Marcus was distraught. He didn’t want her to leave him again! And so amidst a childish tantrum, the boy manifested. Except he was no longer a boy now. Before all of their eyes, Marcus’ hair had grown and his features softened, and form shifted into that of a young adolescent girl. This was, of course, enough to get Heather to say for a short while longer while they figured out what was going on with their child, even taking him to a doctor only to find out that this was a manifestation of his power. A couple days later, recruiters from Hammel came to take him to the institution.
It didn’t matter anymore now how much he screamed, Marcus was never going to be able to live with his mother again, not even with his family. It was around this time, shortly before his 13th birthday, that Marcus started shifting into his rebellious phase, wearing these outlandish clothes, talking back to his father and grandfather, and getting into more trouble than he had before. He refused to take his medication and things only got worse. Finally, a year after Marcus was accepted into Hammel, Clayton put in for a transfer with his company to their branch in Burlington and the other two men moved to that city outside of Pilot Ridge so that they could be closer to the boy. Marcus stayed in the dorms, but was allowed to go home to his family on weekends with permission from the school.
Unfortunately, even the move didn’t do much to deter Marcus from his acting out, at least, not much. His academic progress still was moving at a snail’s pace and Marcus started trying out a bunch of different things just for the sake of experience, such as cigarettes(not too bad), drinking(doesn’t like the taste of beer), sexual experimentation, and overall delinquency. These behaviors faded into the background, however, as he got older and started delving into anything and everything he could catch an interest in more than his schooling. He still talks back to teachers on occasion, might not show up for class, definitely doesn’t turn in assignments, and if he does, they’re incomplete. He’s just a 19 year old boy now who cares more about living his life than he does about getting grades that will land him in Harvard or some college like that like his grandfather wants him to.
Over the years, Marcus has gotten to see him mother on and off, basically whenever she happens to be passing through on her next endeavor, whatever that may be. They might have lunch, but she’s instructed him to just keep it between them that they were meeting privately like they were. Something else he didn’t know was that she was ordered to stay away from Marcus by the courts, but ever since he turned 18, Heather had been coming around more and more often, and more openly, and less like she was sneaking around. Marcus has mixed feelings about their interactions.Roleplay Example
