The BasicsName: Safia Manali Chatterjee
Nicknames: Saffy, Dragon Girl, Toothless, Khaleesi
Age: 16 (August 15th)
Orientation: Bisexual (leans heavily towards girls)
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Draconic Shifting/Appearance -
Safia has the ability to shift her body into a sort of half-dragon hybrid. She's unable to shift into a complete dragon, but she can have any or all of a numerous amount of features: Spiraling horns from her head, bat-like wings, clawed hands and feet, scaling on parts of her skin (namely the shoulders, hips, and outsides of her thighs), and a long, serpentine tail (she can also have a forked tongue, but that is not one she likes to show off). She can keep these features for shorter periods of time depending on how many she has at the time - if just one, such as the horns, she can keep them for a couple hours; if all of them, only about a half-hour at most.
Side-effects include joint pain, skin flakiness/rashes on areas of scaling, fatigue, dizziness, and a craving for meat.

General Appearance:
Safia is a sort of striking individual, and not by choice. She typically wears minimal makeup, but her strong brows, dark tawny skin, and very long, wavy hair tend to catch eyes anyway. She has her mother's full lips and lashes, and her father's high cheekbones. She typically keeps her hair tied back in a long braid to keep it out of the way, especially when shifted - she's had her claws catch in it on far too many occasions.
She stands somewhat tall for a girl, at 5'8" when wearing flat-footed shoes. Despite how much she eats, though, she has always been pretty thin, and generally lacks very many curves (which is fine by her). Her limbs are long, thin and wiry, somewhat deceptive of how strong she actually is from self-defense training.
General attire is nothing special - loose tees, jeans or cargo shorts, and Converse or sneakers are her go-to when she doesn't have anything planned. She dresses up in skirts and dresses for needed occasions, but doesn't go out of her way in general to make herself look flawless.
When completely shifted, she has dull grey, spiral horns protruding out just above her ears; large, black, scaly wings; a forked tongue, and slightly sharpened teeth; enlarged, scaly, and clawed hands and feet; black scaling on her shoulders, hips, and outer thighs; and a long, snake-like tail, also black and scaled. She otherwise has her normal features.
Personality: There are two sides to Safia that you will likely see depending on who you are. In general, and especially with women, she is friendly, easy-going, and even warm, especially among friends. She can act silly and likes to hang out and watch movies or go out for something to eat, nothing too extraordinary, just simple things. She enjoys fantasy of all mediums and likes spending time with others who do as well. She can be helpful, although she is also sometimes lazy and may come up with excuses to get out of things if she doesn't want to. In general, though, Safia is someone you can go to if you're looking for someone to just chill with and maybe have an adventure or two.
However, she acts completely different around men. Due to incidents in her past and her growing paranoia over time, Safia has grown to hold a grudge towards almost all men. She's extremely distrusting of them, and will view them all as undeserving of her companionship and trust until they prove without a doubt that she can rely on them not to hurt her. While she likes to consider herself a feminist, she's actually more along the lines of believing that women should be above men; she's incredibly frustrated with the way society is currently run, and is determined to make a difference someday in order to break the power that the patriarchy holds over the country, and the world.
She has some ties to the culture of her parents, although she's much more bold and opinionated than her mother ever was. Safia often bases her opinions on untrustworthy sources, though it's something that she's working on to stop doing. She loves eating, especially Indian cuisine, and has a decent cooking ability that has been passed down through her family. She's incredibly protective of her two younger siblings, especially her sister, looks up to her older sister, and is much closer to her mother than her father, though she has learned to grow closer to him gradually over time.
Safia adores her ability, and enjoys life at Hammel for the most part. She works hard to do the best she can with her education and her training, and is determined to make a name for herself.Your VicesLikes:

Any Other Important People: Her green anole, SmaugHistorySafia's parents were set up for an arranged marriage at a very young age. It wasn't abnormal; in fact, it was expected, despite her mother's initial dislike and hostility towards the man that was supposed to be her husband. But, growing up in the West Bengal city of Baruipur, she didn't have much choice in the matter, and the two were officially wed when both were in their early teens.
Saisha eventually grew to accept her life, especially after the couple had their first child, Piyali, Safia's older sister. However, work was hard in the Bengal, and as the young parents tried and struggled to make it in the hectic world they lived in, they began to look outside of their city, and even their country, in order to best survive in the world.
It wasn't until Safia was born that they had managed to make enough money to pay for their way to the United States, where they had been told that life would be much easier and richer than the one they were living. They had both been studying English in the little free time they had, so while they weren't completely lost upon arrival, it was still a very difficult change. Safia was only a few months old when they made the move, so she remembers little of her home country.
Unfortunately, life in their new home of Los Angeles wasn't as 'easy' as they had been told either; they struggled to get by at first, especially with the still-present language barrier and trying to feed two young mouths. They eventually found a niche, albeit not in the nicest of neighborhoods, but it was better than the conditions they had been living in before. It got a little easier as time went on, and Safia and her sister welcomed two younger siblings into their lives a few years down the road.
Safia was always a little tall for her age, even as a young girl. As she grew into her late childhood, she was at least a head above most of her female classmates. She stood out; and she was bright, so she was often noticed and praised by her teachers, much to the annoyance of her peers. She enjoyed being bilingual, found a knack for biology, and even had an artistic streak. Her parents were very proud, and her older sister praised her as well. Safia also found a passion for fantasy worlds, especially dragons - they were so powerful and stunning, she couldn't help but admire their free beauty.
It wasn't all easy though. Safia was aware that her mother had never been completely content with the man she'd married, and though the two got along, they often clashed when they thought the children weren't around. Saisha had grown more compliant over time, though, and usually just let Aamod get his way so as not to cause too big of a fight. And this disturbed Safia, although she never said anything.
She didn't have a huge problem with boys until she got into middle school. She was still generally taller than her peers, and started developing at an earlier age than many of them, too. This started to get her unwanted attention from the opposite gender. Safia didn't understand why they picked on her more than others; the whistles in the hall, the crude remarks, the traveling eyes that seemed to get more frequent the older she got. It made her incredibly self-conscious and uncomfortable, but more than anything, it made her angry. Angry that there was nothing she could do besides call them out (which usually just made them do it more) or try to tell a teacher (who often just responded that 'boys will be boys'). Why didn't anyone realize how much it affected her and, as she got older, her friends as well?
The anger and frustration festered until she started high school. She was fourteen at the time when something happened that made her snap - someone actually tapped her while she was walking to class one day, a solid hit on her backside that nearly sent her stumbling. Amidst the following laughter, something in Safia broke, and she whirled around and started yelling at the culprit, not realizing the fear that materialized in their eyes was coming from changes that were overcoming her body, and not the actual outburst itself. Horns sprouted from her temples; claws formed on her hands, along with the scales that rippled over her skin. Her teeth became sharp, and her shoes ripped as claws formed on her feet as well. It wasn't until the wings burst from her back and the tail shot out from her spine that the pain really registered over her fury; by that point, all those around here were either frozen with fear or had run away in a panic. Horrified herself, Safia retreated to the nearest bathroom, gazing with a mixture of horror and awe at the creature that gazed back at her in the mirror.
After some time, the traits melted away, and she was left feeling exhausted and sore. Her clothes were torn; she had to go to the nurse's office and shakily try to explain what had happened. Fortunately, the nurse was familiar with meta-humans, and assumed she had manifested in her angry outburst. It was harder to explain it to her parents when they showed up; they had a hard time believing such a thing could happen to their daughter.
Nevertheless, it was only a few days before the recruiters arrived to take her to Hammel. Being the first in her family to manifest, Safia was frightened, but fortunately didn't take too long to settle into her new environment. It was a fresh start, which she was thankful for after her bitter memories of Los Angeles, but she still continues to hold a grudge towards men. She even started taking self-defense classes as soon as she arrived in Pilot Ridge, and continues to practice it on a regular basis.Roleplay ExampleHere be dragonsWhat About You?Name: Apollo
