The BasicsName: Katya Moschella
Nicknames: Kat, Kitten, Flea
Age: 20 (October 20, 1994)
Orientation: Pansexual homoromantic
Desired Rank/Job: U of Vermont student
Powers: Iron spike protrusion - Katya is able to produce needle-like spikes roughly three inches long from her skin. They're very sharp, and as far as she can tell, unbendable. As the result of her training at Hammel, Katya is able to localize the protrusions to a single area of her body at will, and is largely able to keep it under control when agitated. That being said, she prefers not to test her limits. Causing spikes to protrude is highly painful. As well, Katya suffers from anemia and sets off metal detectors.

Any Scars? Assorted nicks and scratches, nothing big
General Appearance: True to her nickname, Katya is quite small at 5'0"; when puberty hit, she grew out, but she didn't grow up. Tight brown curls frame her heart-shaped face, falling to chin level. Straightened, her hair could probably reach to her shoulderblades, but Katya stopped straightening her hair years ago and doesn't plan to go back. Her amber eyes are slightly wide-set and her arched eyebrows kept tidy. She has full lips, a straight nose, and smooth olive skin.
For clothing, Katya goes full girly - skirts and dresses, brights and pastels, plenty of accessories, the works. She really admires Lolita fashion, but doesn't own any large pieces herself out of fear that she might accidentally puncture the fabric with her power. Instead, sometimes she opts for a simple petticoat to give a little poof to a basic skirt. Shoes? Just about anything. Flats and sandals keep her short, which allows her to play up her cuteness. Heels and wedges work when she wants a little boost, as well as her favorite pair of pink platform sneakers. Katya likes to experiment with makeup, but primarily sticks to simple looks to match her childlike image.
Personality: Katya is the baby, plain and simple. Being the youngest child, the only girl, and a surprise to boot, she has gotten used to being doted on by her family. Although her brothers definitely teased her (where do you think the nickname "Flea" came from?), as brothers are wont to do, they primarily saw her as someone to protect. As a result, Katya grew up leading a charmed life and believing that the world was a kind place. Sometimes this motivated her to pass on the kindness that she experienced; often, however, it made her a bit of a brat.
After arriving at Hammel into a different environment, it threw the expectations she had of the world into sharp relief. Sure, most of her classmates and teachers were nice enough, but encountering peers who were rude to her face revealed Katya's sensitive side - which is to say, she's kind of a crybaby. It's pretty easy to upset her, and if there's one thing Katya doesn't know how to do, it's hide her feelings.
On the positive side of this, though, is the fact that it's also usually quite easy to cheer her back up again. When Katya is interested in something or even just sees something she likes, her enthusiasm gets dialled up to eleven, sometimes obnoxiously so. The exception to Katya's pattern of hyperbolic emotions is anger; at Hammel, she learned that anger is the strongest trigger for her power, and hence had to practice tamping it down.
Although she has little experience with dating other people, Katya considers herself a hopeless romantic and "in love with love." With nowhere to channel this into her own love life (considering her fear of intimate physical contact and a minor unrequited crush on a certain straight girl), she will pester other people for stories from theirs.Your VicesLikes:

Strengths: Good at games that require accuracy (although not strenuous activity), like darts and bowling. Very excitable and easy to please. Picks up hints well. Difficult to gross out, not afraid of getting dirty. Can burp the alphabet.
Weaknesses: Has to take iron supplements for her anemia, and still sometimes deals with symptoms like fatigue and dizziness. As a result, she avoids exercise and is fairly weak. She's very sensitive and gets her feelings hurt easily. She's also a terrible cook.
Fears: Before training, Katya's power was primarily triggered by becoming overly emotional. While she would love to date, she has no experience in that arena to fall back on as far as how the ups and downs of romance might affect her ability, so she's afraid she might end up accidentally stabbing some poor love interest.
Secret: A lot of Katya's childishness stems from it just being what she's used to. She wants to grow up and be taken more seriously, but feels stuck in her image.Family TiesFather: Marco Moschella (chef, age 60, non-meta)

With Marco's restaurant in Florida taking off and plenty of lovebirds seeking out Aliya's services, there was just too much to do. But when Aliya became pregnant again in 1994, she and her husband were thrilled all the same.
The Moschella brothers were a slightly different story - just what were they supposed to do with a baby sister? Even Ivan, already nine years old and the ringleader, wasn't so sure. Would she like the same things they did? Could they teach her to? The boys old enough to be in school had learned that some girls were repulsed by things like frogs and dirt. But on the other hand, their mother was never phased by such things; with any luck, baby Kat would take after her. And so, through the efforts of her brothers, Katya's childhood was a blur of scraped knees and messy adventures.
At least, until Ivan took ill at the age of fourteen. Most of the Moschellas feared for his safety, he was so uncharacteristically fatigues and lethargic; most except for Mama Aliya. It's not that she wasn't concerned - she merely lacked the fear the rest of her family held. The reason why became clear when Ivan manifested, and immediately a Hammel representative arrived at Aliya's behest. One by one, the same happened to each of the Moschella boys; shortly after their fourteenth birthdays, they became sickly with anemia, then after a few weeks would manifest and leave to Hammel to receive training.
Every time one of her brothers needed to go, Katya cried. They were being stolen from her, their little band broken piece by piece, by the strange mutations they had developed. She lived for the holiday vacations, when the whole family could be together. When she was ten, and completely inconsolable as Eric was sent off and she was left alone, Aliya explained to her that the boys were going through the same that she had when she was a child. What was more, in all likelihood, Katya would do the same in a few short years.
Well, that didn't sit well with her at all.
If Katya was depressed before, she was miserable now. To her, Hammel was some mysterious, sibling-stealing entity far away and she wanted nothing to do with it. This frustrated Aliya, who was proud of her children and their abilities, so she wrote to her sons with an idea.
During the following school year, fall of 2005 to spring of 2006, Katya received mail from her brothers stuff with photographs. Photos with their friends, of them at events and festivals, swimming in the pond. One week it was photos of a foodfight that Leo had started, just so they could document it for her. That spring, when Katya and her parents traveled to Vermont to see Ivan graduate, her hatred of the place had been replaced with fascinated anticipation.
Sure enough, the January after Katya turned fourteen, she found herself feeling weaker than usual. One evening in early February, she was bedridden with extreme pain as needles pierced out of her skin for the first time. Within the week, she was off to Vermont, her turn at last.
Hammel was everything her brothers had made it out to be, and more. Before very long Katya had a small circle of close friends. Now exposed to more of the world, she discovered new interests and means of self-expression, and learned to control her power. The fifth Moschella child to graduate from Hammel, Katya now attends the University of Vermont and shares a house with four of the friends she made there.Roleplay ExampleWhat About You?Name: Etch
