“Really?” Anthony found that surprising, considering he was the one who cheated on his girlfriend over a pair of boobs. He remembered him and Salem having this conversation before. That men in general were just…terrible. Himself included. “I’m glad at least one person thinks so,” he said, hinting how he didn’t quite agree.
“Yeah, my dad made me get my license when I was 16. Got the car last year. He didn’t want me to be out here without any way of getting around.” It helped that his dad had the salary of a Colonel, and so made sure he had pretty much everything he needed while he was away from home. His mother, of course, resented all that because she didn’t make quite as much and so couldn’t provide something like a car. It was an ongoing issue that Anthony preferred to not dwell on.
Anthony shrugged. “Not really. It’s not that far, right?” Towards the university, which was in the opposite direction he was going, but that was fine. There was a girl in need, after all! He blushed at the quick kiss, almost tempted to take it a step further. But no…that wouldn’t be appropriate. “Thanks, I, uh…I try to do my best.” Which was the truth, even when he fell short.
“You don’t have to do that,” he insisted, though if she pushed the issue, Anthony wouldn’t object. The car ride didn’t last quite as long as he thought it would. Idle conversation helped move it along. When they arrived, Anthony pulled into a spot at the apartment complex and put the car in park. He wasn’t expecting to go anywhere, but maybe she needed help bringing her books inside? “This is it?” he asked, looked through the windshield, up at the building. “It’s nice.”
