“You’re not,” Oriel insisted. He wasn’t. He was. Phoenix was pathetic. He didn’t know how to take care of himself. He couldn’t take care of himself, not without Oriel there. Not without Oriel holding his hand, giving him guidance, telling him what to do. But at the same time, he was useful. More useful than he could ever imagine. He was there for Oriel. He existed for Oriel and no one else. But…he couldn’t…not if he couldn’t take care of himself when the entire world was trying to keep them apart. “You can do this. I know you can,” he said, hoping that Phoenix could take encouragement from his words to keep himself taken care of.
Elope? That sounded like a pretty good option at this point. They just run away, elope, start their own lives somehow. Oriel didn’t need to finish school. He had…enough training with his power, probably. They didn’t need to stay here anymore, Oriel was practically an adult he could make his own decisions and take care of himself! With Phoenix beside!
“They wouldn’t let us get away with it,” Oriel said through clenched teeth, hot tears starting to pool in his eyes. “Because I’m still….a kid….” He hated that so much. Why couldn’t he be an adult already so he could stop having people tell him what he could and could not do? It wasn’t fair.
“I wouldn’t,” he assured Phoenix as they fell into more kisses. “I scaled…things much worse…than that before…” Oriel’s hand rose to clutch tightly in Phoenix’s unruly hair. He chuckled. “A-anything…you want.” Another kiss. He never wanted to stop kissing his love, not until doomsday and forevermore. Oriel’s hands slid down over Phoenix’s chest and hooked underneath his shirt, pulling the article clean off before guiding Phoenix to lay back onto the bed. “No….don’t die…I couldn’t take it if you—“ Oriel choked out a harsh sob. He’d had people die on him before. Oriel would break completely to hear that Phoenix did too, for any reason. He kept his hand running over Phoenix’s bony back as the thin boy latched onto Oriel’s neck. “Take…take as much as you want,” he told him.
This was probably a bad idea, with Oriel so emotionally spent and Phoenix equally so physically, but Oriel couldn’t hold himself back anymore. He needed someone to hold, and he wanted that person to be Phoenix. He needed, he needed…someone to love him, and someone to love. Oriel didn’t know if he could go any longer without drinking up his Phoenix. He was like a junkie, mad from being denied his fix. And now that it was sitting right here in front of him, Oriel couldn’t help diving right into it headfirst.
Oriel kissed Phoenix again as he started to work on the other boy’s belt.
