"When we met the pain stood still
It was us
Then suddenly it's where'd you go
The system blew
I knew
This side of me I want a little more
But inside it seems I’m just a little boy
Nothing else!
Don't go it's a mighty long fall
When you thought love was the top Ooohhhhh
Oh no it's a wake up call
When your life went into shock Whoaaa
It seems like gravity keeps pulling us back down Whooaaaa
Don't go it's a mighty long fall
When you know time is up Whoaa - oohh"
The muted, almost quiet sounds of an electric guitar played through the back hallway of the auditorium where the music rooms sat mostly quiet at the end of the day. Occupying the room in question was Axelle Flint and her guitar, a speaker hooked into her phone to provide some back ground music as her fingers (with pick) busily played out the lead guitar's melody. Inside the room the sound was almost deafening, Axelle's voice almost yelling into the microphone she had set up. There was something about this song in particular that had resonated with her recently and since her father had given her the single as a late birthday present she had listened to it obsessivly on repeat. The song, though at times in Japanese held a desperate emotion that she could almost touch in the music.
The band, from Japan was called ONE OK ROCK, and she had found them while putzing around YouTube one day and had fallen instantly in love. It had taken her almost two years of saving to buy their entire current discography and have it shipped to her. Her father's gift of their latest single "Mighty Long Fall" brought her collection to completion at the moment and she was grateful. As the Japanese lyrics came on she only hummed the melody because the words were too fast and confusing for her to have learned yet but the moment the english lyrics came back she was singing with the sort of reckless abandon she had come to be known for.
"Get up Get up Get up Get up
Time to make amends for what you did
Get up Get up Get up Get up
Running with the demons in your head
Let's shout it out completely
You never really wanna know
Let's shout it out we're screaming
Oh Oh
Don't go it's a mighty long fall
When you thought love was the top Ooohhhhh
Oh no it's a wake up call
When your life went into shock Whoaaa
It seems like gravity keeps pulling us back down Whooaaaa
Don't go it's a mighty long fall
When you know time is up Whoaa - oohh"
As the chords faded from their echo she stood there, head down, breathing heavily. Her fingers itched to play again.
So she did.
She changed the pitch in her voice, a little deeper, more desperate, more emotional...raw and aching. She thought of how she had been avoiding everyone recently, the way she flinched when someone moved to touch her, how she flinched to keep from touching others. She thought she'd been getting better. After that night with Benji she had been so confident. She wasn't sure where it had all gone. After all the drama surrounding Lucas and Benji and everything with Salem and the accident on top she just felt so low. So she was pulling herself up again, one song at a time, she could be strong enough for herself and everyone to lean on when things got bad and if she couldn't take care of herself when she was aching and in need, who else could?
She'd be stronger; she would absolutely be stronger, for everyone, but mostly for herself.
It was us
Then suddenly it's where'd you go
The system blew
I knew
This side of me I want a little more
But inside it seems I’m just a little boy
Nothing else!
Don't go it's a mighty long fall
