Rue had a couple friends he could have asked to come to the field day event with him, but he'd decided to go solo and just wander around by himself, finding amusement in the laughter and smiles around him, not to mention the brightly colored auras that followed most of the people there. There was a lot of yellow, sprinkled with pink (usually around couples) and some spots of orange (often near scary rides). Rue enjoyed the happy auras; so often on campus, where he spent most of his time, there were more depressing or stressed ones.
So he was feeling content as he meandered a short distance away from the activities, to go find a quiet log to sit on by the edge of the water. The sun was starting to head towards the horizon, creating a perfect summer sunset over the lake. Rue picked away the last few bites of an elephant ear he'd picked up at one of the food booths on his way out as he sat and reflected on the day. He hadn't gone on any of the rides or played any of the games himself, but that was alright - he hadn't come to partake in those activities. He just enjoyed watching people; it made him feel good when those around him were having fun, too. He'd always been very empathetic to the emotions of those around him.
There were a few other people out on the lake or on the shore nearby, but Rue made no move to go talk to anyone. It was unusual for him to talk to people without being approached first, and this was no different. But there was room on the log next to him if someone wanted to sit down.
