A Fair Is A Veritable Smorgasbord (George)

“So…” Marcus started as he stuffed his mouth with more funnel cake, licking his fingers of the powdered sugar as needed. “How’s the ring toss thing going?” There was no way they could get Marcus to volunteer for shit like that. He was a rebel, hardcore.

He sat up and grabbed his sugary blue-raspberry slushie, slurping it up deliciously, though not fast enough to give him a good-old-fashioned ice-cream headache. Seriously, the art of drinking super-cold treats was just that, an art. And Marcus had perfected it to a T.

The two of them, himself and the pretty girl George, were sitting at one of the many, many picnic tables that had been scattered about the grassy area of the community fair(it was a field day, Marcus didn’t know why they just didn’t call it a fair, everyone else did), the crowds bustling around them as they devoured an assortment of treats and sweets that Marcus had procured. Funnel cake, slushies, of course, along with curly fries, a basket of corn dogs, a bucket of caramel corn, and a giant bag of blue and pink cotton candy. Because blue and pink were the best flavors.

Marcus reached over and grabbed one of the 4 corn dogs he’d bought for them. He hoped the George would indulge in this spread as much as he did, but if not…well, that just meant more for him!

No amount of rebellious charm could excuse avoiding volunteer work. Especially when it possibly involved shouting at strangers, taking money, handing out prizes and being fabulous. Just saying. "It is going amazingly," George proudly stated, taking up some curly fries and munching on one in little bites, like a novelty set of chattering teeth, until she reached its end, "Probably moreso because I'm involved - not to blow my own trumpet or anything." It was only in that moment that George actually realised how that saying could be taken as a euphemism. She ignored it, even if she was giggling inwardly. Outwardly, she was stuffing chips into her mouth like she would die without them.

Food was one of George's loves and passions, which was probably obvious from the fact that she wasn't being delicate - if she could cook better, she would be constantly supplying people with sweet treats and delicious culinary feats until the dogs came home. As the case was, she could bake pretty well, and made very good dropped scones, but most other things ended badly. The feast in front of them, however, George was very glad for. It looked delectable and tasted just as good, too. "I swear," She said, attractively filling her mouth with candyfloss and slurping from her slushie, making a very interesting mixture of sugars which made her head spin for a moment, "Faire food is the best kind of food." Her speech was muffled by her food, but she didn't really care. Eating or speaking? Eating. Eating every damn time.

Her hair was notably shorter than usual at the moment, but it wasn't something she was going to point out personally, even if the anecdote that came with the reason was pretty entertaining. It used to reach her mid back, and now it stopped just below her shoulders, which could easily be interpreted as a new hairstyle. Or the result of an incident involving fire, because of course, George and fire was always going to be a safe, fun, family friendly activity.

The English girl managed to evacuate her mouth of all foodstuffs before speaking again, "You done anything fun? Or evil?" She paused, "Scratch that second question, anything evil is fun."

Marcus had to say that George looked absolutely amazing and posh in that little faux tuxedo getup she was wearing. He could hear his mom saying the exact same thing to her face…and then asking when the wedding was.

Sigh…

Marcus took the euphemism and ran with it. “I gotta say, bet that takes some flexibility, huh?” He grinned and stuffed the end of the corn dog full into his mouth, with purpose, then took his bite of it. A large bite. He’d probably be working on that for a while, but that didn’t stop Marcus from stuffing more funnel cake in as room became available. Yes, he was a pig, just as much as the girl in front of him, though probably with a lot less finesse—what was he talking about, there was no finesse when it came to gobbing down faire food!! He slurped down some more blue slurpie.

“Mmm,” he agreed, unable to form coherent words himself. This lot he’d gotten wasn’t going to last very long at this rate. He considered making another run soon, but decided he should probably get his fill, because with the way George was going at it, he wasn’t sure there would be anything left by the time he returned. They might even end up in a good-old-fashioned food battle. And Marcus wasn’t exactly against that.

Marcus swallowed(finally) and hummed in consideration. “I think providing the evil empress with sustenance is the most sinister thing I’ve managed today.” He took another sip of his slurpie. “I was thinking about checking out some of the games later, or maybe the kissing booth.” Some of the girls there were damn cute. “Or maybe the water balloon fight, later.” A smile crossed his face as he imagined the girls in there suddenly doused and stuck in wet t-shirts for the rest of the day. “Oh! And there’s the dunking booth too! I wanted to try that.” Marcus chuckled, his cheeks a soft pink. There was just so much to do, he couldn’t really settle on just one thing.

Pft, of course George looked damn fancy in her fabulous attire. She always looked amazing, even if she was in a pair of trackies and a long sleeved tee. She generally was fabulous.

And not vain in the slightest.

"And stamina." She agreed, nodding. She watched him eat for a moment, nodding again, before shaking her head, and then doing a combination of both nodding and shaking which she didn't quite understand and honestly made her a little dizzy. "You are subtle, my good man." She wasn't concerned/disgusted/effected by Marcus' appetite. It was like hers, and food was made to be eaten. Why would you complain about someone making sure they stayed alive? And hyped up on fatty foods. All the food.

There was probably some ice cream somewhere. They should get some ice cream. Ice cream was a good option. Maybe she would suggest it later. Or sooner than later.

She was obsessed with this funnel cake though. Well, her company was good - she liked being around Marcus - but funnel cake. It was delicious, mother fuckers. If they went to get more food, she would probably buy out all the funnel cake. It was just too good. And it would taste even better with ice cream. All the more reason to get ice cream.

George nodded, "You've done a good job of doing that. Gold star." It was moments like these where she needed that cat plushie from the ring toss stand, which she would be stroking evilly, if it was here. Goddamn, why couldn't she do something useful, like manifesting fluffy toys?! Life would be so much better for her. And everyone else. PLUSHIES FOR ALL! The Londoner nodded as Marcus rattled off his plans. Kissing strangers was always fun - I mean, hashtag: germs, am i right? Water balloons though. "I'm all for getting wet." Her mouth just didn't stop, did it? She smiled, "Do everything. Everything is fun." George spoke truths. She stole all of the remaining candyfloss and shoved it in her mouth, making her cheeks fill like a hamster, "We need more food." She muffled out again, picking up her slushie and just about managing to drain it.

This was not healthy.

Marcus broadened his smile, the ends of a couple french fries peeking out from the corners of his lips while his cheeks were deliciously stuffed. His sentiments were the same as George’s regarding the pig-fest they were enjoying. It was great to be able to just hang out with someone cool and stuff your face without having to worry about pleasantries and manners. His granddad was always getting on him about that. His dad less so, but Clayton was a bit of a pushover and would reenforce pretty much everything his granddad dictated.

Marcus was glad he didn’t have to go home much this summer. He was twenty years old! He didn’t have to do what they said anymore…or so he liked to think, after all, where was the money for this spread coming from?

Marcus waved a hand out and nodded in a sort of small bow at her appreciation. “You’re too kind.”

A laugh escaped his full lips, nearly causing him to spit out what was still a half-chewed bolus of masticated nourishment. ”I’m all for getting wet.” Of course she had to say that when Marcus was in the middle of swallowing! Marcus held up a hand as he tried not to choke on his own food and tried to swallow down the bolus one small piece at a time without dying completely. He quickly washed down and cleared his throat with another slurp of his slushie…then finally proceeded to laugh out loud. “If you want to join us, I could get you plenty wet!” he offered, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.

Or they could just get more food. They were already more than half through what they already had and Marcus just wasn’t feeling the hole in his stomach becoming sufficiently filled. “I could go for more food.” His stomach was like a void sometimes. Like today, specifically. “Lets finish this stuff first, then go raid the refreshments stand.” Marcus nabbed another corn dog and scarfed it down.

Society was too bloody bogged down on women being daintly and sweet and gorgeous and graceful, or strong and independent, but still gorgeous and graceful. No, George didn’t fall into those brackets. She was strong, and independent, but her appearance and manner of acting just weren’t a concern to her. She would rather look like an idiot whilst having a good time over looking fabulous and feeling shit. Simple as. And Marcus seemed the same, despite the fact that he was of the opposite gender.

Most of the time.

Too kind? “I am?” Sarcasssmmmm. “Have to change that.” Here came the chav voice, “Alright mate, you fuckin’ suck.” Cue chips. Mmm, salty and delicious and stuffed gracefully into her mouth… mmm…

The English girl snorted at Marcus’ reaction, giggling under her breath like a bloody pansy. And then she cackled like a fucking hyena as Marcus struggled to devour his food, and she took the last of the funnel cake and started nibbling at it. His laughter soon came and was followed by a statement that she had totally be asking for. “Go ahead.” She shimmied, “Fire away, you great lug.” Ah, friendship.

Honestly, they were probably going to be giving the most money, thanks to the nutritional goodness of greasy, fried food. Good times. “Sounds like a plan.” So she began scarfering down the remains of the food. This probably wasn’t healthy. Most likely with Marcus’ help, the platter was soon cleared and she somehow managed to jump up from her seat, “Let’s go before the garden gnomes steal all the waffles.” Were there waffles? There should be waffles somewhere.

Marcus got that too, the whole “non-conforming to traditional gender expectations” thing. He hated it, especially since he didn’t quite meet them in either form. Marcus was just…Marcus. Or so he tried to tell himself. The truth was that he wished that he could be the built, muscular man that usually got his own heart throbbing…but the best he could do was be a tall, super-slender girl devoid of any rack.

And no matter how much junk food he consumed, he couldn’t manage to put on a single goddamn pound.

“Ha. Should I be worried?” he countered, stuffing the remains of some distant snack that was no longer recognizable after being ravaged by the two students. “A sweet pansy like yourself? How could you be anything but kind?” Then again, wasn’t there that saying? It was always the quiet ones.

“That a challenge?” Marcus had little issue with moving forward with that invitation, in the non-appropriate sense, but he was going to keep it to the happy-happy-fun-times-and-water-balloons sense. “I’ll make it my personal goal to nail you good and hard.”

The spread never stood a chance between both their stomachs. The paper baskets and plates were deposited in one of the trash bins and then they were on their way. “Waffles? I don’t know if they sell those?” It’d be awesome thought. He spun around, walking backwards so he could face George while they talked. “You know, I had the best idea just now. Ready?” He held up his hands. “Waffle-burgers. Just like hamburgers, only with waffle buns. Amazing, right?” It sure sounded so to him.
