Zachary Bishop had slowly, gradually, moved back into his parents house over the course of the summer. He determined it wasn't practical to be wasting money on an apartment close to the school when he only went to his graduate classes a maximum of twice a week. Those were the days he also put in some hours at the newspaper office, but he could do most of his studying and work from the sanctity of his bedroom, where it was nice and peaceful and quiet without a soul in sight. Yup, just him...and the spiders.
However, that was the first thing he noticed when he woke up this morning.
It was QUIET.
Like REALLY REALLY QUIET.
Sure, there were the normal sounds that one heard in a home that housed a family of thirteen with one child(Devlin) visiting frequently. The twins seemed excited(or distressed?) about something. There was some commotion going on in the family room where the television of blaring the morning news. But that wasn't what he was talking about.
The constant buzzing he got from his power telling him where all the various spiders were in the house(they were EVERYWHERE by the way) was gone! Just GONE!
Over the years he'd gotten used to it and barely paid attention to it at all anymore. Hell, he barely noticed it sometimes because it was just so chronic. But now that it was absent...it made a HUGE difference.
Zach got dressed quickly and joined his family downstairs for breakfast with a chipperness he'd not had in years, a change that was plainly obvious to his family. The morning conversation was weird. Apparently he wasn't the only one who'd woken up with changes, though a majority of them seemed to have experienced no change at all. The turning point in the situation was when Zach tried to hug his mother...and she collapsed on the floor, completely passed out. After that, Aura took Zach aside and gave him a good long lecture about what tactile anesthesia was and what he could expect from this kind of power.
It was pretty well handled, all things considered, but what else could one expect from a meta-family. Wondering the 'whys' behind it wasn't going to change anything, so the best they could do was just try to adapt and move on. That was...well, the Bishop way, it seemed.
Armed with an outfit far to warm for the season(gloves included), Zachary headed to the lake, a place he didn't really frequent before because...well, that was one of the places where the buzzing had been the worst. He'd taken a notebook along where he'd every intention of writing...something, maybe something about today's experiences so far. Maybe.
However, upon arriving at the lake, Zach was just so overwhelmed by the sound of QUIET that he overindulged in it to the point of passing out himself, right there in the middle of the grassy field on the bank of the lake.
Ahhhhh! he thought.
