The BasicsName: Verity Cary Moores
Nicknames: Veri, Vee, V.
Age: 17
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Cryokinesis - Verity has the ability to cool down, and even freeze water. Her powers are limited to water that is already present around her. She can't create ice out of nothing. The side effects of her cryokinesis are a low body temperature, acute sensitivity to heat/warm environments, and constantly feeling cold.

Any Tattoos? No tattoos
Any Scars? A few faint scars on her knees from rough and tumble as a child, much like anyone else.
General Appearance: Verity stands about 5'7" tall with a soft, slim build. Her shoulders are slightly rounded, though fairly broad. People often say she looks a lot like her mother - The two share the same pale blue eyes and high, prominent cheekbones. Although her straight nose and full lips mimic her fathers almost perfectly. The one feature that sets her apart from her parents, though, is her pale, almost translucent skin. Both Colin and Laura are deeply tanned, from whole lives spent living in Florida. Despite their attempts to encourage Verity to get out into the sunshine, like other kids her age, the two would always find her in the safety of her bedroom either playing with her toys or reading books.
Verity's long, glossy brown hair creates a stunning contrast to her porcelain skin. Always slighty curled, it falls to her mid-back and is relatively thick. It's always cut with face framing layers which emphasise her square jaw and strong chin. You'll very rarely see her with it pulled back - It's her safety blanket. Not only that, she finds that she gets too cold without her hair covering her ears and the back of her neck.
Not really one for fashion, Verity mostly wears black jeans and has a vast collection of simple, warm sweaters. She tends to dress more for comfort than anything else. Practical black boots and thick socks are her go-to when it comes to footwear. Other than her earrings (plain gold studs), the only other jewellery Verity ever wears is a thin, plain, gold ring on her right ring finger and a delicate gold chain with a tiny heart pendant. Both were gifts from her parents just before she left for Hammel.
Personality: Verity has always been fairly quiet. She enjoys her own company and often craves days where she can stay in her room and not talk at all. An introvert through and through, Verity can find it hard to put herself out there and let people get to know her. Not through unwillingness, but rather because sometimes she just doesn't know how to interact with others. However, when she feels someone understands her, she is incredibly warm and loving. The girl has a gentle heart and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of people.
As with most introverts, Verity finds she becomes overwhelmed very easily. She's prone to stress and anxiety. However, she's strong willed and always determined to deal with things on her own terms. She also tends to be a bit of a day-dreamer. Always conjuring up and playing out little stories in her head - Romances in Paris, skiing in Switzerland, buying her first home, building a family. You can always tell when she's off in a dream because her eyes become glassy and there's a faint smile playing on her lips.
Verity lives for the future and "what could be", hence all the day-dreaming. The most important things to her in life are family and love. And all she really wants in life is to be loved. She worried, when she was younger, that her powers would alienate anyone who might love her. But as she's growing older and gaining more and more control over them, she's shaking that fear.
For all of her hope in the future, though, Verity can also tend to dwell on the past. If something happened that hurt her, she's not likely to forget anytime soon. She's also not likely to stop feeling anxious over conflict or embarrassment, no matter how long ago it happened. Just the thought of past conflict is enough to throw her stomach up into her throat.
Anxiety, lamentation and day-dreaming aside, Verity is a sweet girl who loves to smile and laugh. She's clever and although she sometimes finds it hard to concentrate, she has decent enough grades. Loyalty is very important to her - She'd fight tooth and nail for anyone she cares about and is unlikely to end any friendships or romances unless she knows they've well and truly run their course.Your VicesLikes: The colour purple, cool weather, rain, sleeping in, comfortable clothing, penguins, being near family, the possibility of future love.

Any Other Important People: Her childhood pet, a dog named Kara.HistoryVerity was born to Colin and Laura Moores in Melbourne, Florida on May 25th 1997. With both parents working full time - Colin as an IT consultant and Laura as a carer in an aged care facility - much of Verity's early childhood was spent in childcare and kindergarten. The Moores weren't wealthy, but never wanted for much. Colin and Laura made sure their only daughter had a stable, nurturing, comfortable upbringing full of warmth and love.
When Verity began school, she found it a little difficult to integrate with the other children and had to be actively encouraged by her teachers to take part in games and schoolyard play. As she grew familiar with her teachers and classmates, she started to come out of her shell, although she remained quiet and more of a spectator than anything.
Fairly unremarkable as a child, Verity cruised through school easily. She formed stable, reliable friendships with a couple of kids in her class that lasted through grade school. Family life was quiet, also. She never displayed any behaviours that her parents found worrying, although they noticed that she stayed inside more and more as she grew older.
On weekends, Laura and Colin would often organise trips to the beach, or fishing, or kayaking - Anything outdoorsy. However all of their plans were met with resistance. They put it down to their daughter getting closer to her teenage years, and thus wanting to do less with her family because she didn't want to be embarrassed by them.
One summer, when Verity was 11, they managed to drag her along to a rented holiday villa in Key West. She spent the majority of the first few days complaining constantly about the heat and how it was making her feel ill. Laura and Colin lost their patience, convinced their daughter was just being difficult, so they left her to her own devices.
While her parents were out, Verity decided to try and cool off in the pool in the back yard of the villa. Nauseous and desperate for some relief from the heat, she dipped her toes in the pool only to find that the water, instead of rippling out around her feet, froze at the touch of her skin. Shocked, she pulled her feet straight out and the ice melted again.
When her parents arrived home, they were greeted by a frantic Verity, speaking a million miles an hour about her experience with the pool. At first, Colin and Laura were both sceptical. But Verity forced them to come to the pool and watch. The results this time were less impressive. Instead of freezing over, like before, the water just became icy cold. Her parents brushed it off, thinking it must be a prank.
However, two weeks later, after they'd returned home from their holiday, a recruiter from Hammel paid them a home visit. He explained to the Moores that Verity was... Gifted. That she had powers that normal people didn't. That she was being recruited for a school in Vermont where she'd learn how to control her powers.
By the start of the new school term, Verity was in Vermont, in a strange new environment full of other people with powers. Some like her, some vastly different. Adjusting to her new school took some time. It took at least six months before she felt comfortable contributing in class. She made friends slowly and avoided extra curricular activities - Instead preferring to keep to herself and study.
In the five years since coming to Hammel, Verity has made a small group of friends and through extensive training, has learnt how to not only turn water to ice, but how to manipulate water into various ice forms. Being more predispositioned to observing made her initial sessions with trainers difficult but over the years, she has come to trust them and feels that they are the people who understand her the most.
After first discovering her... Talent... Verity was afraid that people would shun her. However as she settled into her life at Hammel, she began to realise that so many other students held those same fears. Now, as she enters her final years at the institute, she's looking forward to what the future may hold.Roleplay ExampleSo cold.
Verity shivered when her fingertips brushed against the skin on her stomach as she fastened the buttons on her jeans. Always so icy cold. She was sure she should be used to it by now, but apparently not. Six years and the cold of her own hands still caught her by surprise. Especially on mornings like these - Frost coated the outside of her dorm room window and a fresh layer of snow coated the ground outside.
Despite her power, Verity still felt the cold like everyone else. Except it was constant. Most confusing for her, though, was her incredible sensitivity to the heat. It's as though the trade off for being abnormal was constant discomfort. Always too hot or too cold.
She picked up the small, gold ring she'd laid on her desk before going to sleep the night before and slipped it on her right ring finger. It was a gift from her parents before she left home for the institute. It made her feel like they were always with her. She missed them dearly. Her mother, with her wide smile and pale blue eyes. Her father, with his strong hands and deep laugh.
A quiet sigh escaped from Verity's lips. As she pushed her hair back from her face, she thought about how much of a shock it must have been for her parents to learn about her power. Hell, it was enough of a shock for Verity herself. She wished, more than once, that she was normal like her parents. Like all of the kids she went to school with before.
If she'd never manifested, she would have gone to high school. Maybe gone to prom. Probably gotten a boyfriend. Then gone to college. Then eventually she'd have gotten married and started a family. But now? Who knew. It was unlikely anyone other than a fellow meta would understand her strange "gift". Or even accept it.
She often contemplated her future. On the one hand, she craved normality. The white picket fence, 2.5 children, middle-class American dream. But on the other hand, what would be the point in her even having this power if she was going to live her life suppressing it? What would the years of tutoring and isolation count for?
Despite the fear of never integrating into normal society, Verity felt lucky. Really. Things could have turned out so much worse. She was in a safe place with people who were experiencing similar things to her. And they all had the guidance of people who had already learnt how to live with their powers. She'd even made new friends. Not an easy feat for someone who could quite often go days without speaking to anyone else.
Stuffing her textbooks into her worn backpack, Verity smiled slightly to herself. At least she'd never have a shortage of stories to tell. And she'd always have a party trick up her sleeve. And cold drinks. She laughed quietly at that thought - Something that uprooted her young life could end up playing such a trivial part of her future.
But there was no use in worrying about what was to come in the years ahead. She swung the bag over her shoulder and headed for the door. For now, she had math and history classes to get through. After that, training. When all of that was done, she'd let herself think about what was next.
