The BasicsName: Ruby Storm
Nicknames: Sometimes Red, though usually just Ruby
Age: 14
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: A limited form of Super Intellect.
Ruby has developed an ability to process information at incredible speed, simply glancing at a page will be enough for him to retain all the information it contains. However, this information is not consciously accessible to him. Not only does he not have free access to his memory, but the only way for him to gain access to this information is by knowing enough information on a certain subject.
Once his knowledge passes this invisible threshold, his mind will create a hallucinogenic "friend" who happens to be an expert on the subject. This friend, however, exists purely fictitiously. Although to Ruby he appears normal, nobody else can see him and any interaction he holds with this friend might make Ruby seem a little crazy to external observers.
The ability to intentionally gain new "friends" isn't something Ruby currently knows how to control, nor does he know how to discard or even avoid this "friend" if he is no longer in need of their expertise. As far as Ruby is concerned, this "friend" is a real person who follows him everywhere and provides whatever input they feel into every situation.
One drawback to his abilities happens when one of his "friends" interacts with the real world in some way, such as to play against him in a game of chess. The greater disparity between reality and the reality his "friends" present, the more forceful and persistent a migraine Ruby develops. If too many differences stack up or if too dramatic an inconsistency occurs, Ruby may even develop a spontaneous nosebleed. Perhaps the impact will be lessened with experience, but only time will tell.
One further drawback is that the more information he absorbs using his ability, as opposed to actually reading or other forms of focused study, the more calories he burns(more than ten thousand per hour). If he goes for too long without a break, not only does he become famished, but if he ignores his hunger he can become dizzy and potentially even pass out from exhaustion.

General Appearance: Ruby is pretty average. He is, at 14 years of age, 5 foot four inches tall, weighs 115 pounds, and still has a some baby fat to grow out of, though he isn't at all overweight. He has tan skin, a clear complexion, slightly shaggy hair, and a clean, straight smile (now that his braces are off...).
Ruby likes to wear green T's, black shorts, and vibram shoes. Sometimes he wears red or blue shirts if he doesn't have any green ones. If he can't get away with that, however, he likes to go all out with a full 3-piece suit, usually grey, but black or tan are possibilities.
Ruby is fit. He has played soccer for as long as he can remember, and he harbors hope that one day in the future his flat stomach might turn into rippling six-pack abs of steel.
Personality: Ruby lives a relatively carefree life. He tends to marginalize experiences he views as negative and likes to express vocally how awesome everything is. He feels confident, happy, capable, and even sometimes exceptional. He also happens to be quite humble and teachable if he views you as a superior.
If there were a single defining characteristic of Ruby, it would be that he is a reliable friend. He has some strengths and weaknesses, some friends and some enemies, some likes and dislikes. He doesn't really stand out as unique or a troublemaker, he doesn't bully and he doesn't play the hero. Despite knowing this about himself, if you ask him for help, he will do whatever he can to give you what you need.Your VicesLikes: Cheese, Soccer, Girls, Video Games, Camping, Chess, Harry Potter, The Color Green, Leprechauns, St. Patrick's Day, Christmas, Birthdays, Getting and Giving Gifts, Practical Jokes, Sleeping In, Cinnamon, Pancakes, Cinnamon Pancakes, Vibram 5 Fingered Shoes, and a myriad of other options depending on his current whimsy.
Dislikes: Hot sauce, Jalapenos, and all other things spicy that isn't cinnamon. He dislikes meat attached to bones. He also does not like to touch blood or anything sticky.
Strengths: Ruby is good at soccer, passable at chess, knows how to make a campfire with nothing but some sticks he found in the woods, and has a talent for picking the right gift to give a person.
Weaknesses: Ruby is an Introvert. He's a good conversationalist, but he just feels overwhelmed if he has to converse with more than one or two people at a time. Sometimes he is vocal about his dislikes to the point of abruptness and unthinkingly says hurtful things when stressed.
Fears: Ruby is afraid of spiders. He doesn't have full blown arachnophobia, but he thinks spiders are creepy and he would more likely walk down the hall and ask his mother to squish a spider for him than he would do it himself.
Secret: Ruby has been secretly sticking holes in his parent's condoms with a pin since he was 8 in the hopes that it would get him a younger sibling.Family TiesFather: Brian Storm
Mother: Alrianne Storm

Any Other Important People: (pets count)Kim Stephens was his gym teacher and the soccer coach at his middle school, and Ruby secretly had a crush on her.HistoryRuby's parents, Brian and Alrianne Storm, married in college going to Oregon State University. His father majored in Computer Science and his mother was a child psychology major. They met by chance one night at a bar and it was not much later that they were planning their wedding. Both were very intelligent, and very driven individuals. They sometimes marveled that their son seemed so average.
It wasn't that Ruby wasn't smart, he just didn't seem above-average. It wasn't that he wasn't dedicated, he just seemed so easy going. In short, Ruby didn't seem much like his parents. They loved him anyways, of course. Even though he wasn't at all the driven, exceptional child his parents had expected, Ruby brought a unique sense of satisfaction to the lives of his parents that they had never previously experienced.
When he was 14, at the urging of his father, Ruby joined the school's chess club. Ruby had always been mildly interested in chess, but had never learned to play. After overhearing a conversation between his parents about how excited his father was over his interest in one of his father's favorite pastimes, Ruby decided to get better at chess.
He checked out books on the subject from the library, watched professional matches on the internet, and even read and listened to commentary about some of those matches. He practiced against other students in the chess club and asked for help and advice about how to play.
One day a new kid named Joseph Maloney showed up at the chess club. He didn't say much but he watched some of Ruby's matches with obvious interest, and a few time's even appeared quite agitated over some of Ruby's moves. Finally, Joseph came up to Ruby during one of his games and informed him that since he made a certain move then he would lose in just 3 more turns.
Ruby, true to prediction, lost the game in 3 turns. After the game he went and spoke to Joseph, learning that he had just moved in to the area and that his entire life seemed to be chess and cold pizza. Thinking that this would be a good opportunity to improve his game, Ruby invited Joseph over to his home that night for dinner and some one-on-one tutoring.
After walking to his home with his new friend, Ruby called out to let his mom know he had company and that they would be in his room. They got out a board and started a game, Joseph commenting about all the moves and explaining why some were great options at the time and why some were horrible decisions.
It was maybe 20 minutes later that his mother walked into the room. During this time Ruby had felt the stirrings of a headache that gradually but persistently progressed to a full on migraine. As he lifted a pawn to take Joseph's white bishop piece, he was struck with a bout of dizziness. To his mother's eyes, her son was talking to himself as he played a very one-sided game of chess against an invisible opponent whilst sporting a violently gushing bloody nose. The next thing anybody knew, he fell to the floor, unconscious.
After Ruby came to and his parents both helped him determine that Joseph was not, in fact, strictly corporeal, it was only a matter of days before he was approached by a recruiter from the Hammel Institute. Although reluctant to leave his family behind, Ruby felt that in his mother's eyes he could never be independent unless he learned to control what was happening to him.Roleplay ExampleSuhail

Everything was in motion.
Suhail’s eyes flew open, and he felt more than saw his master’s death. He knew Thaylen would die; the pressure of being owned was suddenly gone. Contrary to everything that was happening, for a brief instant he felt a rush of life, of freedom.
Then next thing he felt was horror as he found himself standing, the sword he had been holding falling the stone floor with a clatter.
The man who had just pulled the blade from Thaylen’s dying body had begun rummaging around, looking for something, and instantly Suhail knew: this was about Suhail. Someone had discovered him, someone who did not care about the value of a man’s soul, and someone who would not let the monster within him hide behind a mask of menial, trivial tasks.
He acted without thinking, the blade that breathed when he did was in his hand. He flung it across the room with all the force he could muster, pulling out all the stops. He felt that this killing could save the lives of thousands.
Then something in the room shifted, and the blade, only inches from piercing the heart of the brown-haired man, vanished. He was too late. The pull, the pressure, the sense of being owned crashed down upon him again, and Suhail couldn’t complete the attack that would remove it. He cursed himself for dropping the real blade, the one that couldn’t disappear just because someone picked up a little black pebble.
Desperation welled up within him, and he surveyed the room, saw the others accompanying the man, saw the creature standing in the gore that had once been Thaylen’s wife. He saw Rose being pulled away, screaming and reaching for her mother, saw the power rising in her eyes and knew she would lose control in a moment.
He could do nothing; his choices taken away as swiftly as they had been given back to him.
“So this is what binds you to a person,” the man mused.
Suhail walked over to him, bowed stiffly, and said “I have no choice but to inform you that you hold my Soul Stone. As long as you do so, I will obey you.”
This was it, then. He was at war. Every secret Suhail failed to keep from his new master would mean more dead. He pushed the well of power within him as deep as he could manage, and then made the only choice left to him. He chose to wait. What About You?Name: BenOfHearts.
