John and Jake didn’t know all the details. All they knew was that Zach and Lany had been involved in some kind of trouble. Something dangerous. But they were both okay now. Still the way that their older siblings and parents were avoiding their repeated questions made the brothers worried.

So they had decided to wait for Zack to return from wherever he was and check things out for themselves. And the best place to wait for him was obviously in their older brother’s bedroom. Though they were forbidden in there without his expressed permission, this was a special situation. So Zach wouldn’t be mad, right?

But it was taking so long for Zach to get back. Despite their fear, or possibly because their worrying had exhausted them, they had now fallen asleep on Zach’s bed while waiting for him.

This was a nightmare. And it still wasn’t over was it?

After Lany and Zach had gotten home, obviously the first thing to do was tell their parents about what happened. Then numbers were dialed. Devlin showed up first, of course. Before anyone else could, the younger kids were sent away to their rooms for the rest of the night while they sorted everything out with the police. They’d tell them everything in the morning.

Statements were taken. A list of items lost was made. They would have to call the credit card companies, to cancel every card that was taken. He had to retell the story, over and over, and whenever it came to the question of giving a description of their attacker, Zach couldn’t answer. He felt like a fool for not getting a better look at the guy. All he’d been looking at was that silver firearm in his hand, pointed between himself and his little sister.

Several hours had passed by the time everything had settled down and they were finally able to go back to “normal”. Whatever that was.

It was late. Well after midnight. Zach was exhausted, both physically and mentally. He’d seen Lany to bed, and told her that if she needed anything, to not hesitate to call him, or Aura, or anyone else. They’d all be there in a heartbeat. As Zach slowly walked back to his room, a thought occurred to him. He and everyone else would be there for Lany, but…who would be there for him? Zach’s first thought was to call Kai. He didn’t have his cell phone, but he could look up his contacts list online, right? That’s what he intended to do once he stepped into his room. He wasn’t expecting to see his little brothers there, sleeping on his bed.

Zach blinked, then cleared his throat. “JJ?” If they didn’t rouse from his voice, Zach would kneel beside his mattress on the floor(he always was too lazy to put together his bed-frame) and gently shake them awake. “Hey…wake up…you’re in my spot,” he said, trying to sound annoyed.
