The BasicsName: Nolan Quinn Cooper
Nicknames: Cooper, Coop
Age: 28 (Oct. 31th, Halloween)
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Petting Zoo Owner
Powers: Animal communication and control – mammals
Nolan can communicate with animals in that he effortlessly adjusts to how they speak to one another and that he can understand them. This ability required quite some training, and he has reached the point where he can also control them with his mind, aka make them move. The thing is, Nolan dislikes the latter. He rather tries to reason with them, and will only make use of that skill when it’s really necessary.
The possibility to communicate and control diminishes as the distance increases – depending on the auditory or the visual of the animal.. Side-effects include temporary loss of human communication skills and occasional animal habits. When a lot of animals are near, he might also be confused as to who is speaking. He knows what most of the petting zoo animals sound like though, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get confused at moments. He often also has headaches and might struggle to get a sentence out when interrupted while using the ability.

General Appearance: Nolan is a rather tall man, standing at a little over six feet. While he doesn’t specially work out, working at the petting zoo and fixing stuff around there does keep him in decent shape, easily burning any alcohol he drank or any snacks he gave in to the night before. He’s fairly muscular, but not to the extent that he comes across as one of those guys who spent hours in the gym, practically having arm muscles that threaten to tear the sleeves of their shirts. His hair, in addition, is kept short and while he does his best to shave daily, sometimes he can’t be bothered and has some scruff.
His clothing style can be described as casual. He usually settles for a simple jeans and shirt, especially while at work. At home he tends to go for a jogging pants and a shirt as well, wanting to be comfortable after having grabbed a refreshing shower when his day comes to an end. Nolan does tend to dress up more fashionable when going out, even though the occasion will decide whether or not he’ll settle for a suit.
Personality:
Nolan is kind of different at work than he is in his private life. When it comes to his job, Nolan is a very ambitious, active and hard-working man in the sense that he is incredibly invested in and devoted to the petting zoo and will put most his time, energy and money into it. He is very organized and punctual about his job, to the extent that he finds it hard to accept mistakes. He is more mild to his employees, but will still be set on finding out what went wrong. He is quite calculating, looking ahead a couple of steps to hopefully avoid problems. When things go wrong, however, the guy doesn’t deal well with it. Either he’ll withdraw himself or he might explode, depending on the situation. In both cases it is best to let him be.
Nolan is a different person at work than he is in private. He tends to be more withdrawn while working, keeping to himself and letting his employees mostly deal with the visitors. That trait does flow into his private life,, but only until he gets to know a person better. He’s the kind of guy who’ll base himself on first impressions. This will lead to him being either cautious or very outgoing. Even when he is outgoing, however, he hardly ever shares personal details. Nolan is humble, not one to brag about what he has. He actually doesn’t like it when people ask too many questions and will reply short or just not at all. In turn some label him as mysterious.
He’s a nice and charismatic person, but don’t push the wrong buttons. Nolan holds grudges and might just go into ignore mode if someone tries to explain themselves. He’s not too good at keeping himself from judging.Your VicesLikes:

Any Other Important People: A horse and a dogHistory
Nolan had a rather normal childhood. His parents led a company together, yet they did try to spend as much time as possible with their son. It wasn’t always too much of a success, but the boy never really minded because it usually meant he would get to stay with his grandparents. They had a farm in Pilot Ridge, and their grandson was more than happy to help out.
One night when he was staying over, the thirteen year old boy got permission to sleep in the barn. One of the horses was about to have a foal, and he was so set on being there when it happened. So they got him all settled with a couple of blankets, pillow and flashlight. His grandfather kept him company as well, yet the older man did decide to head back inside for a second after Nolan had dozed off in order to refill his coffee. No harm done, right?
It was during that brief moment that unfamiliar voices woke up the young boy. “He’s alone. I’m hungry. Hungry, hungry, hungry.” Nolan didn’t budge at first, too scared to move really… until the voices got incredibly close and he could feel something move on top of him. This was what made the kid open his eyes abruptly, staring straight up at a rat on his torso. While Nolan screamed and sat up very fast, the creatures scurried off, audibly grumbling about him being awake.
What followed was his grandfather rushing in, immediately tended to the upset boy. All he kept saying was that rats had been wanting to eat him. The fact that some leftover sandwich might have attracted them in the first place was something he couldn’t accept. Of course his parents were rather skeptical about it, blaming it on their son’s amount of fantasy. His grandfather knew better though. Living in Pilot Ridge, it wasn’t exactly too rare for him to have encountered meta humans. Some of his friends had powers, and it was with one of them, a fellow farmer, with whom he discussed it the next day – only strengthened by the fact that Nolan had claimed to hear the dog beg to go swimming that morning.
Nolan was taken to the Hammel Institute the next morning. A recruiter spoke to them and came to the conclusion that he indeed had an ability. With his grandparents in Pilot Ridge, the decision of letting him stay with them while he attended Hammel the following day was quickly made. The fact that they had a farm definitely aided him to work on his power. Other than good grades, nothing remarkable happened during his time at the Institute.
After that, he went back home, spending nearly five years working in the company of his parents, occasionally coming back to spend a couple of days with his grandparents. The older couple passing away, however, was Nolan’s cue to return to Pilot Ridge. The fact that they left him the farm and a very decent amount of money helped that. He ended up renovating the farm into a petting zoo. Soon after, he purchased the house that stood on the other side of the lake.
Now, three years later, Nolan is proud of what he had reached. Having Ket around, a young woman he saved off the streets after just having moved back here, definitely helped him succeed like this.Roleplay ExampleKiara, Milan & Maebelle (& Flynn & Elina)What About You?Name: Sha!
