For the most part, I left Samantha vague in Sydney's history because I wanted her to be adopted and brought into play. I didn't specify how much older than Syd she is so she could be a Hammel student or college student or local. I also didn't specify what her power is or if she even had one.
Sydney and Samantha have always been at odds. While Sydney is very intelligent and academic, her sister was not, and that caused problems between them. Whether this came from jealousy, a sense of competition or parental attention was unspecified. Sydney was skipped ahead 2 grades, which means that if Samantha was only a year or two older than her sister, they could have ended up in the same grade or even with Samantha being a grade behind her younger sister which could definitely cause some issues.
In the same manner, there is a lot of potential based on if Samantha is or isn't meta. If she is, she might have manifested first only to be disappointed when her sister did as well, or to add insult to injury she could have manifested second despite the age difference since Syd did manifest rather young at age 12. On the other hand, if Samantha isn't a meta, then that could have caused even more resentment between the siblings.
