The BasicsName: Kataline Vivian Warren
Nicknames: Kate
Age: 18, born December 6th
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Retrocognition: Ability to see the past. Contact must be made with an object or a person, to ‘see’ the memories within them. Cannot manipulate, only watch. Tend to have trouble remembering details of their own past – what was really their own memories, or what they’d witnessed, and occasionally forget what year/month/day it is. As with most mental abilities, migraines result.
Kate struggled with the idea of her power at first because she thought it was an invasion on people's personal lives, but she is alright with it now as long as she has consent. She's gotten better at controlling it but sometimes involuntarily sees something she shouldn't when she touches somebody.

General Appearance:
Kate has always been a bright girl. She has a contagious smile that lights up the room and often remains in her eyes after the smile fades. She always presents herself in the best way possible, meaning that she never goes into public with ratted hair or smudged makeup. Her father was white and her mother was half African-American, so she has a dark tone to her skin that is especially noticeable in the summer. It often looks like nothing more than a dark tan. Her eyes contrast her skin tone, being bright blue and distracting to look at. She has defined dark eyebrow that match her dark brown hair, which if left unattended to hangs in unruly silky waves to her middle back. She often tames the waves with product or straightens it. She has a nose that she swears is too big for her face and lips that she often paints light pink. Kate is a vegetarian and rarely eats anything that isn't raw. It has nothing to do with her not wanting to eat animals, she just chose what she thought would benefit her health. She weighs about 125 pounds and stands at 5 feet 5 inches. Her body, although petite, is extremely muscular. She's been a ballerina since she was a toddler which has promoted muscle growth.
Coming from wealth, Kate has always had a certain criteria on how she has had to dress. Her mother would often lay out clothes for her that would be appropriate for the day. When she came to Hammel, the freedom she had to express her own style was overwhelming. She'd never worn anything but a uniform to school. Because of this, Kate has no limits to what she'll wear, as long as she likes it. Her outfits can range from ripped jeans, converse, and a Nirvana t-shirt to a hot pink dress and four inch heels. She dresses in whatever she feels is appropriate for what the day brings.
In a small act of rebellion, Kate got a tattoo on her 18th birthday. She got it in the only place she knew would never show in a ballet recital or job interview, below her left breast, just at the top of her rib cage. It says in small cursive letters know who you are, as a reminder to never let anybody take away the small part of her that is sick of trying to be perfect.
Personality:
Kate has always tried her best to seem perfect. She never makes a bad first impression or lets anybody see her at anything less than her best. She has natural charm and pays attention to tiny details of anybody she meets, such as eye color, how the like their coffee, or their favorite book. This kind of charisma has always been genuine. She is never rude or blunt, and unfortunately tends to sugarcoat the facts if they may be hurtful. She wants everyone to like her, and in turn it makes her feel worth something. She also avoids conflict at all costs, especially if she is involved.
Behind the bubbly exterior, there is a less perfect version of her. A side of her that is ridiculously sarcastic and has a crude sense of humor. Yes, she can be an actual human being who has real feelings at times. This side of her is constantly searching for something to fill the hole that fitting into a mold creates, some kind of adventure that she's never gotten to explore. Nobody ever sees this side due to her lack of an intimate social life and because she would never let them anyways. Her urge to please is stronger than the underlying personality traits that she considers inappropriate and pushes away.
Kate often sets herself up for failure by setting her expectations too high. She wants perfection, and nothing less. Her goals are set so dangerously because she craves the feeling of acceptance, especially from her family. The only problem is that her goals aren't the ones that will ever give her that feeling, because their idea of success is not playing ballerina or becoming any kind of artist, which is where her passion lies. This inability to feel accepted for who she is causes her to be confused to what she truly wants and to be generally negative toward herself.Your VicesLikes:

Any Other Important People:N/AHistoryIf you can't tell by the important sounding names that make up her family tree, Kate was born into expectations and wealth. Her mother met her father when they were in college, both at the prestigious Harvard University. Their marriage was a business arrangement. Vivian Lockwood and Robert Warren were destined to end up together since they were born. The Warrens and Lockwoods figured that the best way to merge their businesses was to unite their children, those businesses being two of the most successful law firms in Massachusetts, creating Warren and Lockwood Law. They swear they fell in love, but Kate doesn't buy it. They fell in love with the idea of each other, and the millions of dollars that would come from it.
The burden that comes with a business is the children who are born into it need to continue it. Her brother, Quinton, and Kate were subjected to predetermined lives before they were even out of the womb. In order for Warren and Lockwood Law to be passed down to the next generation, either Quinton or Kate had to become a lawyer.
Quinton was always the perfect one. He enjoyed our lifestyle and thrived in it. Her parents knew that ultimately he would be the one to take over the firm. However, that didn't offer her a free pass to be anything less than excellent in their eyes. When she was only three years old, her mother enrolled me in ballet classes. There she found her passion for dance and music. Her mother's intentions were not for Kate to enjoy it, but rather to make her a well rounded person. She had no idea that it would shape her future.
Her parents always claimed that their children's extracurricular activities were for their benefit, but it was more for distraction. Hours of ballet classes, French tutoring, and piano lessons on top of keeping her grades up at the prestigious boarding school they were forced to go to was enough to keep her schedule booked down to the minute. They rarely had dinner together as a family unless it was to make an appearance to clients or something. They were less of a family and more of the idea of one; an image.
There was never a ballet recital that either of her parents attended. They didn't even pick her up or drop her off. They had staff for that nonsense. She told herself she was glad they weren't there. She was never fond of her mother's judgmental eyes or her father's distracted presence. As long as she came home with a first place trophy and maintained her position at the top of her class, they were content. For so long she tried to please them, to see some kind of approval in their eyes that was directed at her, but she never succeeded. They saw her as a disappointment since she showed no interest in the family business.
When she was eleven years old, she was sitting at their table eating breakfast alone when her mother stormed into the kitchen, followed by her father. They must not have noticed her sitting there, because they got into an all out screaming match that ended in her father leaving the house and her mother in tears. Kate went over to comfort her, and as soon as she placed a hand on her arm she saw something strange. It was a flash, only a few seconds long, of her mother waiting alone at a dimly lit restaurant. She kept glancing at the door and checking the time. The waiter watched her closely, eventually asking if she was still expecting her guest and taking the place settings away when she said no. The vision was followed by a severe headache that lasted the whole day. Kate ignored it, thinking she must be crazy. Two weeks later, Hammel officials showed up at her door to take her away.
The only thing worse than being ignored by her parents was disappointing them. Being a freak was certainly a disappointment. Kate was all too happy to get away from the home she never fit into.
In her first few years at Hammel, she threw herself into her studies and activities. She did not waste a minute of her time doing something unproductive. With her parents gone, she felt that she had to prove to them that she was just fine on her own. She began to branch out and try new things, such as drawing and track. She found herself wanting to be involved in everything. As she grew older, she talked to her family less, ballet took up most of her free time, and schoolwork kept her up into the late hours of the night. Whatever she had left after those two priorities was devoted to her artwork or fitness. As far as her power goes, she has struggled with the idea of invading people's personal lives. She wants to expand how far she can see back and learn to control it, but only with consent of the person she's performing it on. She is trying to spend her senior year perfecting her power and figuring out what she wants to do with the rest of her life.Roleplay Example
Vivian Warren had only been in her daughter's presence for a mere hour and already she was talking Kate's ear off about her future.
"Kataline, you need to be taking college seriously. This is your future. Your father will have a fit if he finds out you haven't even considered applying to Harvard!" She accused, her tone sharp.
Kate sat across the table from her mother, clenching her jaw to avoid saying something she would regret.
"Mother, I have considered it, but I have better opportunities if you would just listen to me. I've already gotten offered a spot at one of the most prestigious dance schools, and it's not too far from Hammel so I'd be able to stay near my friends. I am taking this very seriously. It's everything I've worked for." Kate said, her eyebrows creasing sadly as her mother shook her head.
"You are throwing away your future, Kataline. Pursuing a hobby is not an acceptable career path. If you think that you'll be depending on your father an I for money, you are wrong."
Kate's mouth dropped open at this and she tore her eyes away from her mother's, staring at the plate of untouched food in front of her. She closed her mouth and blinked away the threatening tears.
"You missed my recital last weekend." She said softly.
"Did you win?" Vivian asked dully, taking a sip of champagne and staring down the bridge of her nose at her daughter.
"Does it matter?" Kate snapped. Her eyes jerked up from the table to meet Vivian's, who in turn widened hers. She set down her fork and raised from her seat.
"If you are not going to eat your dinner, you have no reason to stay any longer. Your father won't be home for hours. You probably have schoolwork to catch up on. I'll have someone bring your car around." She turned from her daughter and retreated from the dining room, not bothering to look back.
"I don't eat meat, mother." Kate said quietly, glaring at the chicken that taunted her from the plate. "I haven't for nine years."What About You?Name: Klys
