The BasicsName: Samantha Lily Emerson
Nicknames: Sam, but never Sammy
Age: 17, December 15th, 1997
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Melodic Hypnosis.
When Samantha is playing or singing a melody, she has the option to infuse the tune with hypnotic qualities. The notes themselves don't change, but nearby listeners fall into a trance-like state, stop what they were doing, and just listen. Usually, those entranced sway back and forth in time with Sam's music, which at times can be a source of amusement if Sam is playing a quick, lively tune. The hypnosis lasts only as long as Sam sings or plays. If she stops, the people that were hypnotized will experience a few seconds of confusion or disorientation when they "wake", and have a hazy, dream-like memory of what happened while they were under the spell. Instrumental music tends to work better, and if Sam is singing, her hypnosis only works if she doesn't use lyrics. In other words, she would sing "La la la la da da" and not "Happy birthday to you".
The only positive side effect of this ability is that while Samantha is using it, she will always play or sing at a master's level, even if she has never touched that instrument or song before. However, when she stops hypnotizing, her musical abilities revert back to the their previous levels.
The longer that Samantha enchants her music, the more she herself becomes captivated by the melody, up to the point of unconsciousness. The farther she falls under her own spell, the more difficult it is for Sam to return to her senses and stop the music. In addition, the more stressed or emotionally spiked that Samantha is, the more susceptible she is to falling into a trance after hearing instrumental music of any kind, not just her own. Other side effects include ears painfully sensitive to discordant sounds (dropping something metal, construction work, shrieking, heavy metal, etc.), and sore muscles/throat after using her power.
This is not a particularly powerful ability, at least in Samantha's eyes. She has always loved music, and sees her ability as an annoying level of musical awareness. As such, she tries not to even acknowledge her hypnotic powers, much less use them. Because of this, her power has not yet been refined, nor has Sam been very willing to learn how to control it, for that would mean acknowledging her meta-abilities.
Play By: Nathalia RamosThe DetailsHair Color: Naturally brownSam is seldom seen without a bright, toothy smile that's always genuine. She stands at around 5'6.5", give or take. She keeps herself in good shape, and has a body neither slight nor stocky.
Eye Color: Blue-green
Any Piercings? One in each ear
Any Tattoos? None
Any Scars? Nothing significant
General Appearance:
Samantha has often been described a a pretty girl, especially in the last few years. It's not a "hot", seductive appeal, but rather a clean-cut, slightly innocent, natural beauty. Her chestnut-colored hair has a slight, natural, curl to it, and falls about 4-5 inches past her shoulders. Her green eyes seem to shift to lighter or darker shades with her emotions, but almost always with a friendly sparkle.
Clothing-wise, Samantha considers her style as classic-trendy. She enjoys trying the 'in' styles every now and then and seeing what she likes. But her usual outfits fall more along the lines of tried-and-true combinations with a little modern flair. Whatever Samantha ends up wearing, even on her laziest days, her attire always has a feminine slant. Except for special occasions, she wears minimal makeup, usually opting for a swipe of lip gloss and light eyeliner when she leaves her room.
Personality:
Samantha is a bright and bubbly person who has a smile for just about everyone. She holds a humanitarian view of the world, and will just as soon be seen chatting to a scruffy, wild-eyed street hermit as to the captain of the cheerleading squad. She is a thoughtful person, remembering important dates (like birthdays) and offering just the right words - or none at all if that's what the situation calls for. She has many friends and more acquaintances, but only a few close friends. She trusts people easily to a certain extent, but as topics or information grows more sensitive for her, the more evasive she becomes, if she even deigns to speak about it.
What she keeps to herself she lets out through art. Be it paint, music, poetry, or even photography, she has plenty of methods to keep herself more or less emotionally balanced. That way, people are less likely to ask questions that Sam doesn't really want to answer. It's always a relief for her to let her emotions flow freely into the fine arts. Similarly, she tends to be a spontaneous person with an ever flexible schedule and fun places to go. On the other hand, when it comes to more exact subjects, especially mathematics, Samantha is at a loss. She typically performs at a B/B+ level, and that's with an immense amount of time and energy devoted to studying.
One thing that Samantha battles with is jealousy. She is just beginning to realize it for what it is, and struggles to lock the little green monster away. It's never about material objects, always how people treat others compared to her. If she sees her close friend spending lots of time with someone else, for example, she will do all that she can to stay by that friend's side, and steal him or her away. At her worst, Sam is quite the clingy, needy, friend or girlfriend.
Sam's weakest point is where her sister is concerned. Jealousy burns the hottest when it comes to Sydney, and Sam isn't one to hide it. She is downright nasty to her younger sister, and only to her. It's never physical harm, though, more like the cattiness you see in movies about high school drama. But she does draw the line at evil rumors, because like it or not, Sydney is her sister.Your VicesLikes:

Mother: Maria Emerson
Siblings: Sydney Emerson (Age 16, manifested at age 12)
Any Other Important People: Her cat Luna, whom she got when she was 5 and died when Sam was 15.HistoryFor the first year of her life, Samantha was the pride and joy of the Emerson family. Since then, she has been pushed to the side by her outrageously brilliant little sister. At least, that's the way Sam sees it. Her childhood was spent fighting with Sydney, always trying to find something that she was better at and demanding that her parents come and see. The situation worsened when Sydney moved up two grades, putting her one grade above Samantha. Elementary school was nothing but trouble, though after a while the fighting turned into curt, absolutely necessary comments and very tense air.
Despite the deteriorating family situation, what with Mr. Emerson always away for work and two pubescent girls who didn't get along, Samantha remained a bubbly person. At least, when she wasn't at home. She had turned from being obsessed with coming out on top to being nice to people in order to flaunt a large social group in Sydney's face. She discovered that life was much brighter when she wasn't feeling frustrated and forcing herself beyond her limits. She stopped competing academically with Sydney, though there was still plenty of bad blood between them.
She was delighted when Sydney's power manifested and she moved to Hammel, though the first week without her dripped with quite unexpected pangs of absence. Without the self-imposed pressure that came about when Sydney was home, Samantha really blossomed. As she entered high school, her Friday nights and weekends quickly became booked as she spent time with her increasing multitude of friends.
Though Samantha's first visual art class was in 6th grade, she hadn't realized how much she liked it until after Sydney left. She quickly set up a space in her room by moving some of her things into Sydney's now vacant room. She figured that she would move it all back if word came that her sister was returning. She began experimenting with different mediums, and soon settled on her favorite: paint. Soon it was her paintings that adorned the walls of their home, much to Sam's pride. Meanwhile, her piano playing (which she started at age 4) had bettered dramatically, now that she took time to practice instead of glaring at a math assignment for an hour or two. In addition, she tried her hand at the violin and found it quite to her liking.
Unfortunately, Samantha's new-found niche was not hers for long. One day, a few months after her 15th birthday, she was playing her violin in the park, and became lost in the music. The few people around her were mesmerized as well, and the tune that Sam was playing grew increasingly complex until Sam blacked out for a brief moment. Her small audience blamed it on pure emotion, and Sam thought nothing of it under a few weeks later. She was playing piano that time, in the empty band room at her school. The sound floated through the wall and soon there was a zombie-like group of students swaying back and forth around the band room. Bewildered and embarrassed, Sam quickly fled to her home. A few days later, someone came to deliver the news. Sam was a meta and must attend The Hammel Institute, much to her frustration and outrage.Roleplay ExampleRowan had completed a search of this room's contents without a trace of his quarry. He shrugged and turned to move on to the next exhibit. Without warning, the air exploded into a flurry of white and a woman knocked into him, clearly off balance. He grabbed her arms in a firm but gentle grip in an attempt to steady her but found his own balance teetering from her momentum.
He staggered backwards a few steps but managed to remain upright. Mostly. He realized that he was still holding on to her and quickly let go. "Well hello there." Rowan said, flashing her an amused grin before stooping to gather some of the papers.
"Ah,I hope you didn't need these in any particular order." He commented lightly, shuffling the papers so they all lined up the same way. What About You?Name: Rhythm
