Afternoon detention. In the course of her four years at Hammel, Lucy was a regular player in this affair. She - the type to sit at the back and curse and swing on her chair and rest her boots on the desk she'd been scribbling on for a while now. It wasn't exactly filling up quickly, which should have surprised no one. There was an army of well-mannered individuals in these halls.

She'd just, y'know, never been one of them.

But detention? It'd been a bit of a while. Not quite as backdated as her outburst at 2014's graduation, but the days were few and far between by now. She had somewhere to be in the afternoons - if it wasn't work, she was often doing something arguably more important.

But it was the first day of the school year. Come on. Why wouldn't the ink manipulator turn up late for every class? Why wouldn't she get up in the middle of history class and point out how mundane it is to learn about a country's history she didn't even originate from? Why wouldn't she ask what the purpose was of an American history class? Why wouldn't she tell the teacher their job was basically redundant? It was the first day of what should be her final semester, third time over. Why wouldn't there be a spectacle about that?

Leaning back in her seat, she pressed her boots against the edge of the desk, cradling a phone between her hands in her lap. Penny was already asking where she was, and she wasn't quite sure what reception she'd get with the news of her locational status.

It was the first day of the new year and already Zo was in detention.

Really, it wasn't a shock. She spent a good amount of her afternoons here, though not as many as some would expect. She was a troublemaker, but she was good at getting away with things too. The issue was that she was really not good with authority.

So when her English teacher hassled her about arriving late to class after lunch, she hadn't taken it well. Especially once her holiday assignment was demanded in an attempt to humiliate her. Not that she cared really. But that didn't stop her from launching into a rant about how pointless the assignment had been. Of course, the teacher hadn't taken her argument well. About as well as Zo took being told to sit down and be quiet. Because she wasn't about to do that. She had responded with a few profanities of choice and walking out.

Getting detention wasn't exactly shocking.

She entered the detention room with resigned to pass the next hour in boredom. She glanced around the room which was fairly empty - seems most people had opted to begin the year with good behavior - but she caught notice of another girl. Really what caught her attention was the tats that adorned her body. "Nice ink," she said casually. She loved tattoos. She only had the one herself, but she wanted more someday. Of course, managing to get that one had taken her well over a year. Tattoo artists were way too good at recognizing fake IDs.

Nice ink. Lucy Serrano tilted her head up a fraction, chin raising as her eyes peeled from the device into her hands to look at just who offered such a sweet selection of words.

A frequent detention dweller from memory. Dark hair. Bright, faded eyes. Hot. Probably a bit aware of it, but who wasn't these days?

Briefly, she pressed her thumb to the side of the phone and locked it, settling it on the desk in front of her as she allowed the chair legs to hit the ground with their own obvious sound. Detention was, as it always would be, a chore to the larger scheme of things.

"Care to take a swing at how many there are?" Lucy asked, raising her eyebrows. Clear cut details of an Australian accent filtered through each word she offered; it was hard to miss, "Guess right and I'll even show you how far down some've them're hiding."

Her comment got the other girl's attention it seemed as she offered a counter. Zo walked over, putting her bag on the desk in front of where the other was sitting. She straddled the seat backwards, so she was facing the girl behind her. The accent caused an eyebrow raise of her own. After all, that wasn't one that was heard very often around here.

"Well that's incentive," she said with a small smirk. Still, it was a tough question to guess at. She had quite a few and if they weren't all visible... She pursed her lips, trying to make a guess. "Twelve?" she said hesitantly? It might be a little high, but it didn't seem totally unreasonable given the handful that were visible.

"Am I close at least?" she asked, crossing her arms over the back of the chair, leaning forward slightly. At least today's detention had the potential to be interesting. "How did you get so many anyway? It took me years to just get the one!" Maybe she had a secret that could help Zo get a second before her 18th birthday.

Incentive? Lucy raised her eyebrows once at the fact. It was always an inviting way to start a conversation, and it was always rewarded when it came to people who willingly played along.

But twelve? Lucy pursed her lips momentarily before she offered a seething sound through her teeth. The answer highly depended on what a person considered close to be, and so the Australian tilted her head to one side slightly; she wasn't about to either way with an answer like that. "I'll give it to you. There's about sixteen." Give or take what defined a tattoo as a singular entity. That was a different conversation entirely.

With a tilt of her head, Lucy allowed her eyes to drop from her face and search the curve of her neck. Down her shoulder to the arms resting against the back of the chair. The rest was out of view. But she didn't need to look much further. She didn't need to look; "I'm too old to be here." She replied, deft eyes and a prominent grin to her features.

"The legal age in Oz is lower," She continued on, so her age was hardly the central focus, "And I tattoo people when I'm not, y'know, here."

Watching the older girl's reaction, she had to wonder how far off she was. It seemed there was some room for debate on the matter so she couldn't be too wrong, right? As the other finally told her though, Zo's eyes widened. "Wow, that is badass," she said, awe in her voice. It wasn't often that Zo was so open, but her enthusiasm was very blatant and genuine at the moment.

She had a bit of an infatuation with tattoos. She had managed to get her first one just before she came to Hammel - a favor that a friend called in for her. Luckily she had always been good at looking older than her age. Still, given the chance, she'd gladly get more. What she wanted to get she wasn't exactly sure of, but that was entirely besides the point.

Zo gave a small nod as the other girl explained she had managed to get so many, and she had to admit, she was a bit envious. "Ah, lucky!" she said with a small sigh. "I can't wait to be able to get my next one. A year is way too long. Damn stupid laws," she grumbled

Her jaw dropped slightly as she continued to say that she was a tattoo artist herself. "Wow, seriously? That is epic!" Her smirk grew a bit wider as she leaned forward. "How'd you manage that? I mean, you don't seem that much older." Zo figured a year or two at most. "Still, talk about an awesome job..."
