The Basics
Name: Nina, Christina, Rios
Nicknames: N/A
Age: Seventeen
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Electrokinesis: Nina can control electricity, but has very poor skills. She can't predict when the electricity from her fingertips will blow something up, or shut down the power. Her lack of skill is caused by lack of practice thanks to her dislike for the power. The moment lightning jolts out of her when she gets excited or has any extreme emotion, her happiness is instantly drained as she recalls the trouble they caused her. Instead of embracing it as a friend, she shuns it like an enemy. She's never able to go swimming with her friends, afraid that she'd end up electrocuting them. The only association she can have with water is drinking it from a glass. She can't touch a body of water or anything. Nina's clothing also become clingy from the static, causing her to zap people unexpectedly. She also feels an extreme amount of fatigue, which increases the more she uses them. The only side effect that comes from her powers that she actually enjoys is the static that frizzes her hair. She finds it funny.

General Appearance: A young smile is a beautiful smile, Nina’s mother always said in her thick, Brazilian accent. That’s definitely the first thing that anyone would notice on her face and figure, as well as most people her age: youth. Her skin is fairly light with a small hint of a darker shade giving out hints about her original heritage. Her dark brown, almost black hair is long and covers her shoulders and more easily. Though she may bring it up to a bun or hide it in a hat and stuff on occasion, Nina usually lets her wavy hair down the way it is.
Nina is an average height of 5’3’’, and is a little scrawny at 113 lbs. Her face doesn’t hide a friendly person. It shows it to the world with pride with a sweet smile on her face. However, her ability to see bits and pieces of the future can also bring stress, which is also apparent on her face during those times. So, basically she’s an open book. What you see is what you get. You can tell exactly what she’s feeling or doing just by looking her in the face.
You can even tell if she likes you or not, especially if you know her well enough. She will often seem anxious to leave your presence, tapping her foot, or clenching her fist. Even when she’d try to feign happiness, there would be an obvious scowl for whomever she disliked. Her clothing style is also a clear indication of what she feels. Being a rather dramatic person, Nina likes to show her feelings off whenever possible. When she's happy, she'll try to where pretty, bright colors to bring out her happy attitude. However, if she's sad, she'll make it painfully obvious by wearing dark, dreary colors in a way that makes her look good, but still sad. If she's depressed, she won't even try to look good.
Personality: Obviously everything written in the Appearance section is true. Nina is an open book, and with that comes a terrible liar. No matter what it is she says, a facial expression of hers so obviously gives it away. She’s an incredibly friendly person and is almost willing to make friends with anyone with very few exceptions. Her friends are people of all ends of the status quo, from miss popularity, to mister nerd fest. She’ll even be friends with bullies if she has a reason to sympathize with them, though she openly disagrees with any actual bullying they do.
Despite being extremely intelligent, she can be random and ditsy at times. She’s obviously an airhead, or at least she pretends to be one, and doesn’t really catch on to things as quickly as most smart kids do. That’s probably one of the reasons she hasn’t gotten a hang of her power yet, if not the reason. She has a hard time containing her excitement and will often react in the most bizarre ways possible when happy. When she feels, she’s extreme about it. She gets super depressed and hides in her dorm room, dangerously angry and refuses to talk to someone for days at a time, and so obviously confused, unable to grasp some of the easiest concepts at times.
She also has a strong grip on her vices, never letting herself or anyone else do something she knows for a fact is wrong. She can keep a promise until the day she dies and no one would be the wiser that she was ever even told. Now I know what you might be thinking: how can someone be easy to read, and yet can keep a secret so well? It’s the one thing she can hide because it’s connected with promises, which she would rather die than break. She’s learned at a very young age, from being motivated by this vice, to disconnect any promise from her emotions. How this works, she couldn’t even tell you, but at least your secret’s safe with her. She can also be a good peace keeper among her friends, often breaking up fights and calming down stressful situations and the like.
Another thing is that, despite a quick and easy friend to make, she is also surprisingly dedicated. Nina’s not the type of person to leave any of her friends in a mess even if they just met five minutes ago. She’ll do things that she believes is good for all her friends, even if she can seem a bit pushy at times. She can also come across as bossy, overprotective, overbearing, and even wrathful. If her feelings are hurt, she’ll hold whoever she blames responsible, and do whatever it takes to get back at them. Also, she can be a bit of a drama queen, making a big deal out of something that is actually rather small.
Possibly because of her friendly nature, she can often be oblivious to any romantic advances toward her, though she’s not an idiot. Once she figures it out, which may take some time, she’ll kind of have a bit of a rough time knowing what to do with such feelings.

Dislikes:
[*] Bullying (Not most of the bullies themselves.)
[*] Having to tell someone she doesn’t like them
[*] Being insecure for too long
[*] Her Powers (Usually)
[*] Having to go against her moral compass (She’s only human, right?)
[*] Jokes about her intelligence
[*] Being called an air head
Strengths:
[*] Her mother being a native from Brazil, Nina has been passed down with the ability to speak semi-fluent Portuguese. There are still several terms she has a hard time understanding, but she’s become really good at it.
[*] Nina is a very good source of support, and is always willing to lend a shoulder to cry on or give some pieces of advice. Even though most of the things she says don’t make any sense, they’d still make people feel better about 95% of the time.
[*] Nina considers herself to be a decent mezzo-soprano. She can’t quite hit all of those high notes yet, but hey, she’s getting there. She can also sing in English and in Portuguese if anyone was wondering.
[*] Honesty is her number one policy, and she is awesome at making absolutely sure she says what she means. She probably won’t be caught making a promise she isn’t capable of keeping because she never does that. At least when she’s feeling normal. For Nina…
[*] She is surprisingly good at keeping promises thanks to her strange knack of disconnecting them from her emotions. If you thought she was normal before, well you’d probably at least reconsider it if she ever tells you this fact. Be very careful when asking Nina anything.
[*] She’s very good at bringing up and keeping up conversations, which some are much too awkward to figure out, especially in a school environment.
Weaknesses:
[*] Nina doesn’t know when to shut up. No one knows if it’s because she likes to hear herself talk, or if it’s some sort of strategy because of her lack of skill in being able to explain things. Speaking of…
[*] Nina, despite being an open book, cannot explain anything she’s learned very well. Her parents always got on her case about this because it seemed like she just wouldn’t receive the concept by the way she would recite it to them, but her grades begged to differ.
[*] Nina’s a terrible liar. Aside from keeping promises, and you have to make sure she knows it’s a promise, she’ll have to blab about everything. If it isn’t clear to her that she needed to promise you to keep something a secret, your deepest, darkest secrets could be known to all of her friends. And most likely, your friends are her friends.
[*] Nina is slow at catching on to anything. Even the things she’s become really good at, like speaking Portuguese, had been a hard concept for her to grasp at first. She’s also not that great of a problem solver, which is due to this trait.
[*] She is extremely over protective and over bearing at times. If she thinks that something suspicious is going on in her friends’ lives, then she’ll most likely stick her nose where it doesn’t belong. Even if her suspicions are completely biased.
[*] She doesn’t do well with self-control in any sense. That’s why she’s such a drama queen. When she’s excited, she has to squeal even when she’s in a class room full of kids that are trying to learn. That ends up getting her embarrassed, which she also makes painfully obvious. This can often make her come across as rude, if it doesn’t make her rude.
Fears: She doesn’t know if she hates her powers because she’s scared of them or she’s just annoyed by them, but we’ll put that here just in case. Another thing that she is certainly afraid of is the dreaded Juicy Drop Pop. She thinks that its juiciness will take over the world, or something. Don’t question it, it’s not worth it…
Secret: Secrets? She’ll never tell…

History
Warning: Premature BirthBorn in the close-knit neighborhood of Hannibal Missouri, Nina has always been very close to people. Both of her parents met and got married in Brazil, but went to America for their honeymoon and decided to stay since they liked it so much. It took the couple a few decades, but eventually in their mid forties, they finally received their first child. It was a close call, you see, for Nina was born of a premature birth. She had to spend quite a while at the hospital before getting the a-okay to go home. To this very day, she receives minor seizures from the event of her birth, though they have become less frequent and less severe as the years went on.
The scars on her mother was much more long lasting than the ones her daughter had to endure. On top of stress problems, Maria was emotionally detached to everyone else except her daughter. She almost seemed so fearful about anyone or anything touching her, though her daughter's future seemed much too clear even at a young age. Never the less, her mother was much too over protective of her daughter, never feeling comfortable to leave her alone with anyone or anything she didn't know well enough. During the beginning of her childhood, at least the portion she remembers, her mother took the fun out of any games that Nina played by keeping things overly protected.
From blocks to paper, and anything that could potentially cause a child the lightest amount of pain was rejected from her arsenal of play. Did that mean the little girl listened? She was a baby, of course not. She played with whatever she could get her hands on until her mother would yank it out of her tiny little hands. After that, Nina would proceed to cry until her face was blue, or she was distracted by something else. So, in reality, Maria was harming herself much more than her daughter, especially since she stopped long before the little girl could really be harmed by her actions in any way.
However, the little girl did start struggling when she first went to school and was exposed to the concept of friendship. No one could guess this now, but when she was younger, she had a hard time making friends. People were a new breed to her when she reached preschool, and she was separated from her mother despite a desperate struggle to stay with her. Not the best way to start her first experience of being without a familiar face. When she stopped wailing all day, the little girl became reclusive, only coming out of her shell when her mommy came home to pick her up. However, that all changed and never went back after a week when another little girl showed her the wonders of playing with other children. Nina then discovered that it was much more fun playing with kids her age than parents, or playing by herself.
Though the friendship was kind of short, as the other little girl had to leave because her parents had some complications with the school, Nina made her first friend, and she wanted more. Pretty soon almost everyone in the class was friends with her, but then came another issue. She could make friends really fast, but she couldn't keep them. This skill took a little longer to develop mostly because she was too young to really understand the concept well enough. For all she knew, everyone was her friend, and it didn't take long for her to forget about them.
It wasn't until she reached first grade that she really started making friends that made a bit more of an impact on her life. Nina was able to then understand the impact a friend had on someone, so not only was she making friends now, she was keeping them. Each year as she got older, Nina started making and keeping more friends, and could almost describe any type of friend that one could have. At least that's how she felt. There were plenty of kids that were enemies with each other, but they could still all be friends with Nina.
Unfortunately, that was never meant to last forever. One day her mother greeted the usually cheerful girl entered, only to be met with an unusual emotion in that house, especially for her. The static that surrounded the girl didn't really give the mother too much of a clue, since she hadn't even noticed, but her paternal instincts told her something was wrong. From what the young teen, she was thirteen after all, told her, she tried to stick up to one of her bullying friends in a diplomatic way, but accidentally loosed a bolt of lightning that almost hit his head. This made her happy, thinking for a split moment that she was a super hero. However, the bully and the victim swiftly ran away from her without allowing her so much as a word to them. She shrugged this off and was on her way.
Feeling that it would be necessary, and proper, Nina showed her ability off to all of her friends, totally forgetting the concept of secret identity. Mysteriously, though, no matter whom it was she showed these amazing powers to, they always remembered that they had to be somewhere else. However, she didn't put too much thought to it, deciding that her powers also helped people remember things that they easily forgot. So she went home and showed them to her parents, who were absolutely astonished, and dare she thought, terrified. They warned her to keep this "gift" a secret, but of course, Nina didn't listen. Aside from that, she already told as many people as she could in one day, so it wasn't like she could hide it anymore.
However, this particular day happened the day after the incident. Rumor was spreading like wild fire, but Nina was none the wiser of word that was spreading. That very day, she heard various harsh words being spoken about her. The thing was, none of the kids disliked her for this power. They knew she was too nice to hurt anyone on purpose, but they couldn't help but feel afraid of her. So she heard them all openly consider breaking off their friendship with her, which was a complete stab in the chest. The poor teenager didn't remember feeling so miserable in her whole young life. And that was only the beginning of the day. Her powers started showing up more frequently with less control, and her teachers didn't allow her to participate in activities that she wanted to. In misery, the teen gladly decided that it was best if she walked home alone.
The poor girl was a wreck, sobbing over her arms as her mother tried to console her. The teen was having a natural outburst, but this was so unusual for Nina that it actually scared her mother. Maria suggested that she take the rest of the next day off to recuperate from such a blow on her emotions, and Nina promptly wished she'd never go to that school again. However, the teen's parents were quite aware of something that she wasn't.
On Nina's "day of rest," the home was visited by a few people who introduced the concept of the Hammel Institute. When the Rios family found out the consequences of not agreeing to send her to the school, Nina's parents signed her up right away making the teen regret ever wishing that she not go back to her school where all of her friends were. Once all of her things were packed, her parents sprung a little going away present that instantly made her feel completely better, almost. A cage with a white, fluffy chinchilla inside. Maria told Nina that the little cuddly chinchilla may not really seem that special, but that it could be a nice little friend when looked in that sort of way. After promising to take good care of it, Nina was off to the school for gifted humans called Hammel.
Three years later and Nina has settled in nicely, though she could have done better concerning her powers. Resenting them for causing her to leave her home and all of her friends to begin with, Nina felt know shame and openly expressed her disgust for them. To this day she still hates them, for obvious reasons, and refuses to use them willingly unless under dire circumstances. She has just recently opened up to the consideration of perhaps learning how to control these abilities to that they showed up less often out of her control, but that's it. Nina's main concern for going to this school was simply to learn normal academic stuff.
Roleplay Example
The initial reaction from the people in the Pokemon Center was rather neutral. Their attention was caught for a mere second, recognizing the name of the group only to look away and do what it was they did before. “Nexus?” Helen questioned aloud, not really expecting an answer. Even though she didn’t say anything, Elnora was as confused about their reactions as Helen was. Maybe Elnora wasn’t aware of everything that happened concerning Pokemon after all. “Who are they?” Helen asked, emphasizing her curiosity, wondering how she and her rival would treat each other if they learned something together. It wasn’t like the other teen could pick on her for not knowing something she did.
The man continued his struggle to speak, swallowing a bubble of air in an attempt to digest his fears. Now, regaining his cool, his southern drawl became more coherent again. He must not have been native to the south and was trying to learn it instead. “Well, Ah don’t blame these folks for actin’ the way they do.” He began. “Nexus is a group spoken of only by rumor. So few know about ‘em that for the longest of time no one believed they were for real. They are said to be a real shady group of characters whose function is a real myst’ry. But they’re real dangerous.”
The two teens’ eyes seemed to arch and they checked if either one of them could tell what the real threat was. “Are you sure it was Nexus? Maybe it was just a thug and you were mistaken.” Elnora said, receiving her Pokeballs from the nurse as Helen received Jose’s. “We get that they’re dangerous, but how are you so sure that it’s Nexus?”
The man reached in his back pocket and slipped out an image. “Cause of this!” The image was a strange star shape painted on the wall as if it was some kind of gang or cult claiming an area as their own. Why would someone be so stupid as to let authorities know they were there? Or maybe it wasn’t stupidity, more like arrogance. Maybe they wanted the authorities to know they were there. They wanted to be feared. “Ah’ve seen this many a time before.” The man continued. “We’ve had some pretty scary scrapes with them, but this was the only proof we had that it was Nexus. Of course, this was the first time that Ah was directly attacked, so Ah’m kinda in some real shock.”
Celosia looked back at the counter, noticing that the nurse had vanished behind the door and placed a notice that a Pokemon was under very intense care. The thought of going through that brought a cold chill down her hunched spine, and a sick feeling that caused all of her muscles to tense. Helen could sense the fear going through the young Pokemon, and was starting to feel guilty for thinking about doing what she thought she should. Helen remembered the look on that Ice-Type’s face, how loyal it was to its Trainer and fiancé. It was more than likely that the poor thing was trying its hardest to protect its Trainer. Helen’s gut was conflicted with two feelings.
Despite her distaste for Pokemon, she more than anything hated it when creatures take it upon themselves to hurt each other to this degree. With that belief firmly on her belt, she wanted to go straight to whoever was responsible for this and teach them a lesson. Sure, she only had to Pokemon and both combine would only be a little bigger than Glaceon, but she still wanted to give the guy what he or she deserved somehow.
The other thought that slipped into her mind is the fact that had the man not been smart and run away, Glaceon could have died long before he even made the trek for the hospital. The Glaceon didn’t look weak, so if it couldn’t beat this guy, what made her think that her Pokemon could? There was an answer to that question: she didn’t. Her Pokemon didn’t stand a chance against a thug who knew how to cream Pokemon. Celosia and Jose would end up dead or worse even if Helen was careful no doubt. At the same time, she couldn’t bring herself to just disregard the rights of the man and his Glaceon.
Suddenly Helen heard a familiar popping sound, and materialized catching her attention as Elnora let out all her Pokemon. Mr. Sparkles seemed to be much stronger than he was a moment ago, even though Helen hadn’t really noticed. As far as she was concerned, he seemed just as strong as he was the last time they encountered each other. That could only mean that the faceless Pokemon had grown considerably since the last time they met. Her attention was then drawn to the second Pokemon, a pink parrot like Pokemon she’d never seen before. It seemed to be just as new to the team as Jose was to hers, and was rather disinterested in whatever it was that was going on. But the thing that drew her attention right to the little thing was the gorgeous smell that seemed to come from it. It was so soothing, that any tense feelings that any human or Pokemon were gone.
The said bird tweeted as it noticed a vent on the ground, hopped over to it, and started pecking at it. “Zits!” Elnora called over bearing very little results as the bird merely rose its beak for a moment before continuing its peck at the metal covering the ventilation area. Then its impatient Trainer walked over to the ditzy bird, picking it up from the ground and forcing it to listen. “Okay, this is important so you guys have to listen.”
“Hold up!” Helen intruded, sticking her nose into Elnora’s business. “You don’t plan on facing that thug on your own, do you?” Elnora simply ignored her, but Helen interrupted before the other teen could continue telling her Pokemon what was going on. “Your Pokemon will be killed! Aren’t you going to at least going to consider the risks that come with trying to take this guy on?”
Elnora faced her rival with a stern expression on her face. “Well, what do you plan on doing, Sass?” Elnora asked, accusingly giving Helen the feeling that she knew the teen was considering the same thing that Elnora was. Helen said nothing in response indicating that she honestly didn’t know what she was going to do. She looked down at Celosia who seemed less than eager for a huge fight, but it wasn’t like Zits was all in either. “You can be as cautious as you like,” Elnora pointed out with a shrug. “But I’m going to try and stop this big bully. Maybe it would even be a good idea for you to stay out of it.” Elnora glanced at Helen from the corner of her eye. “That Cyndaquil of yours isn’t going to win any real battles for you anytime soon.” Elnora brought her attention back to the Pokemon and motioned for them to follow her. Mr. Sparkles loyally followed while Zits seemed much more interested in whatever Helen and Celosia was doing. Luckily for them, the Staryu was nice enough to go back and push the strange Pokemon toward the direction of their Trainer.
Helen brought out her dex once again, curious on what it had to say about this strange looking bird Pokemon. For the most part, Helen could recall at least catching a glimpse of them before really encountering them, but she didn’t even know a Pokemon like that bird existed. Spritzee, it read when she found the image of the bird in the encyclopedia. The Perfume Pokemon. This Pokemon is among the new group of species that have only been discovered in this last spring. Therefore, the information known about this species of Pokemon is limited. The obvious that most will notice when encountering this Pokemon is a pleasant smell that surrounds this Pokemon. The scent is affected by the diet this Pokemon is exposed to.
With all curiosities aside, Helen now had a major struggle with her conscience. Not only was this man’s justice at stake, but Elnora was also throwing herself and her Pokemon at risk. As much as Elnora pushed her buttons just a moment ago, she still didn’t want her to be killed or anything. She looked back at the forgotten man, who was sitting on the bench, covering his face with his hands and hunched over. Her concern was still with her own Pokemon, though. Her thoughts of right and wrong were blurred thanks to her actual friendship with her Starter. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if she didn’t honestly care for the Cyndaquil’s wellbeing.
Celosia was also battling with her conscience, since it was her own fear that was holding her and her Trainer back. She tried to envision what other Pokemon, like Calan, Mr. Sparkles, or Jose would do. In the end, Celosia couldn’t bring herself to change her mind. She was just way too haunted by that lost battle even after successfully getting Jose caught. The duo was so depressed by this struggle that they were fixated on a bench they haven’t even realized they were sitting on.
After sitting there for a good half an hour, the nurse returned from the back room, causing the man and Helen to rise up and approach the counter. The man almost pushed himself over to the other side, desperate to know what happened to his Pokemon. The only thing that kept him from being over the counter and in the back room was the nurse motioning for him to stop and shaking her head. The man slipped off the counter, and the nurse looked at Helen letting her know to stay out of it. Helen nodded and walked a good distance away from the scene. The moment she turned around to look at the scenario, the woman started shaking her head and seemed to explain the situation to him.
The man broke down. He couldn’t bring himself to stand on his two feet and landed on all fours completely uncontrollable. The woman tried to get out from behind the counter as fast as possible to try and comfort him. She helped him to his feet as Helen and Celosia watched them walk behind the counter and enter the room that Glaceon was taken to.
Celosia looked up at Helen, who tensed up at the scene she just saw, the battle within her getting harder. Several emotions filled the pit of the Cyndaquil’s stomach at once, a million scenarios running through her brain before she finally came to a final resolve. Celosia slipped out of Helen’s arms, crawled up her shoulder and landed on top of her head. The small Pokemon leaned over her head making sure Helen’s attention was on her, which it was. Then, the Cyndaquil pointed her big, long nose in the direction that Elnora and her Pokemon went.
That was enough to assure Helen that if they didn’t do the right thing, they would suffer for it. “You sure you can handle this, Celosia?” Helen asked, taking her Pokemon off her head, and holding her right in front of her, so that she could look at the Cyndaquil right in the face. Celosia rose her two tiny paws and squeaked, raising her nose in the air so her Trainer could see the smile on her face. Helen smirked a little, looking down at the Pokeball in her grasp before pressing the white button on the ball and releasing Jose out of his Pokeball. The kitten yawned and meowed, clearly feeling much better than before entering the facility.
Helen allowed Celosia to stand next to her new friend as the two Pokemon paid close attention to what their Trainer was going to say. “Okay you guys,” Helen began. “We’ve got a little trip we need to go on, and it’s going to be a little rough. We have to locate this guy who’s causing trouble, he’s from a group called Nexus. I’m not sure what the guy did to it, but he hurt that Glaceon we met earlier really badly.” Jose’s mouth gapped shortly before he started to growl intensely. He liked that Glaceon even if the woman it was trying to protect was a brat. “So, I know it’s an impossible job and we’ll probably lose real badly, but if we don’t try to stop him, then we’re in the wrong, okay?”
The Skitty meowed in a cute, yet intimidating way, and Celosia’s back flared as a sign that she was now officially ready to be brave. “Alright. Let’s show that thug that he made a mistake messing with this man and his Pokemon while we were in town.” Helen tried her hardest to keep her bravado strong for her Pokemon, especially Celosia, as she led them out the door and after Elnora.
Meanwhile another familiar figure entered the facility not too long after Helen and her Pokemon dashed out. He had an extremely exhausted look about him, and the blue crocodile with him didn’t look too happy either. When he saw that either she never entered the building or he just missed her, an explosion could be seen getting set off from the look in Major Kent’s eyes, while Calan struggled to keep to his feet. “When I get my hands on that girl, so help me…”
