Walking out from under tree cover, Aiya felt the sun hit her pale skin and get sucked into her black hair. Aiya walked towards the sand, the bottoms of her feet blazing with heat once she stepped onto it. She quickly moved towards the water, trying to keep her feet from burning. The hot summer days have been heating the sand ever since morning. No wonder it hurt.
Aiya's legs broke into the water and she felt cold droplets splash up her legs. She did come alone, but it had been getting hotter and hotter the further the days got into summer so Aiya just said screw it. She felt a little awkward being all by herself, looking around, seeing everyone else with at least one other person. She turned back towards the open lake and trudged further into the water, her bare stomach submerged beneath it.
She wasn't too much of a swimmer, seeing how she was used to being a bird, flying through the clouds, looking down at people in these sorts of places and thinking how small they looked. But she laid back, and floated anyway. The water rushed around her ears and she could hear when people shuffled around in the water. She could hear so much more, but so much less. The water made it seem like you had something pressed up against your ears, plugging them. Although, you could hear most of the things that went on in the water.
Aiya looked up at the sky, squinting from the sun. She stared at the clouds, closed her eyes and imagined she was gliding through them. Her wings slicing through the clouds above and catching every hot air pocket she came across, pushing her higher and higher into the sky. She opened her eyes again and felt the water supporting her. It was as if the water was there for her, lightly swaying her back and forth. Back and forth.
