“Really?” he said with surprise in his voice. “I….I had no idea.” Rue didn’t seem like the kind of person who would need therapy, and here he was openly admitting it to Jackson. If Jackson was in therapy, he’d likely never tell a soul. He didn’t know how to respond to Rue’s next statement, though, and he dropped his head slightly, his face a bit sad. “….I just realized…there’s a lot about you I don’t really know, is there?” Why was that? Was Jackson really that self-focused, to not notice such things in Rue? Or to ask about them?
Then again, it wasn’t like Jackson shared with Rue everything about himself. That other boy, the one Rue beat up, was right about Jackson. He did put up a front most of the time, hiding pretty much all of his true feelings and thoughts about things. This was probably the closest he’d come to being ‘himself’ in front of the aura-reader, with his spiteful comments about the situation, but he doubted he’d be able to tell Rue about everything else that happened that night.
Well….it looked like he wasn’t going to have much choice with one of those things, not with the way things were heading. Jackson cheeks burned as Rue asked about his ‘injury’, and he shook his head, keeping his hands up over his chest…until Rue grabbed up his hands and gently pulled them away. “I’m okay…” he said quietly. He blinked a glance up at Rue’s face, then quickly averted his eyes again. “It’s…it’s just a little sore, is all. Nothing to worry about…really…” Rue’s hands were warm….wow, he missed holding them so simply like this. A small smile appeared on his lips and he looked up again, keeping his gaze on the aura-reader this time and locking their eyes. “You wanna see?”
